Setting: An internet cafe--I believe in Russia. A thug comes in (mafia?) and harasses a target. This guy has lots of chances to get away, but it appears he tries to reason with the assailant.

Bystanders want nothing to do with the crime, none come to the rescue. In the end it costs him his life.

found a better copy of it on youtube

Sucks to be shot with your own pistol especially after you had plenty enough chances to use it to defend your own life.

Seriously, what the hell is (was, I guess) wrong with that guy? Was he a pacifist with a gun? He had a 100 chances to shoot the BG. Of course, I guess the mag fell out and he was apparently carrying chamber empty (one more argument against I guess) so that ended his chances whilst simultaneously telling the BG he was armed.

LOL!!! According to my daughter, who is Russian and keeps up with the music scene there, that is a video to go with the music, which is from a group called "Conflict."

My theory: he knew that someone was looking to kick his butt and decided to carry a gun....that irritated his attacker even more. That kid was expecting this guy.

seems like this thug would shake down people regularly in this cafe maybe? The guy who gets shot seems downright casual when he shows up.

I just turned on the volume on my computer--What a stupid song. Ive been watching it with the sound off thankfully

No, someone put crappy music to make the security tape more 'cool'. I believe the actual security footage is real.

And there is no better summery to such a crime than a front flip off a high dive...

On the assumption that this video is real, it is a perfect example as to why proper mentality is the most important tool in your self defense repetior...

According to some, the victim in this case would not have been justified in shooting the attacker because he was only taking an ass-kicking and shouldn't have been in fear for his life.

The wild card, of course, is once your ass is kicked, your assailant now has ready access to your firearm and can then freely escalate the assault to a murder.

I am betting that a 156-lb kid would be seen by a grand jury as reasonably fearing for his life if attacked by a 285-lb gorilla wielding his fists...and a chair...which the video would prove correct.

Oh, no doubt about it. And my assertion is that if you are in possession of a firearm, ANY physical conflict with another can escalate into a life-or-death situation since you can be disarmed and your firearm used upon you. I would argue that it would, in fact, be unreasonable not to be in fear for your life if you are engaged in a fistfight while you are armed.

Not always. I would go so far as to say that rarely is it the case. But in this instance, it would.

A good reason not to have an empty chamber -- if you lose your mag at least you have one shot (unless you've got a mag safety). Though not that it would have mattered if the victim didn't intend to shoot anyway.
