"Truck Gun"

Not to derail the thread, but keeping a .22 in your truck is not a bad idea. I have a friend who is an emergency room doc and he once told me he'd seen several people who had been shot with .22s, and the damage done to them was very severe.

It's a hell of a lot better than nothing, and it's a lot more lethal than most people will admit.

I don't have one yet, but if I were to get one, it would either be a S&W 627 or a S&W M&P R8. They are both large frame (one stainless, the other alloy) revolvers with 8 round capacity in .357 Mag. The R8 has moon clips for faster reloading, if necessary.

ive got an xd40sc by my seatbelt, and a win 94 in .30wcf under my rear seat.

got a spare mag for all my carry guns in the door, and a full elastic shell holder on the 94.

Sorry to be a buzz-kill here, but my buddy had his truck gun, an 8" stainless .357, stolen out of his truck in his driveway on Christmas Eve. In a small town in Indiana.

I love the idea of stashing a gun in the car, but they're just not secure.

I leave an XD9 subcompact in a locked Secure It box inside my locked glove compartment, which is inside my locked car. I keep a clip-on holster for it in the glove box as well, in case I want to bring the XD with me when I leave the car.

Normally, I'll just carry a j-frame everywhere and let the XD out for air only when I'm driving.

I hear ya.

That's why the PA-63 gets to ride.

No self-respecting gangbanger would be seen with one.:D

Even though I live in a low population rural area I don't leave any weapon in any of our vehicles. For one thing it's just about always damp inside the vehicles, the only time I might leave weapons in a vehicle would be if I had sealed weapons boxes in them. On the other hand I never leave home without a weapon on my side, concealed or open carry depending on where I'm going. The only time I leave a weapon in a vehicle is if I can't legally carry it into a building such as courthouse, postoffice, hospital or where there is a notice that weapons are not allowed. There was a time around here that there was always a rifle in a rack in the back window of pickups because almost everyone around here is a hunter but with the economy being so bad here it's become all too easy pickings for someone to steal and sell at less than value for food, fuel or drugs.

. and on the other side of that coin, no gangbanger would know what the hell a 9x18 mak was. he'd being trying to figure out why a 9mm wouldn't chamber.

I'll leave a gun in my vehicle only if necessity dictates. If I know ahead of time, I'll carry my PF9 because it's about my least expensive gun.
If I had a solid, mounted lock box I'd leave my G32 or G33 in the vehicle and I'm not talking about one of those flimsy lock boxes with the hair thin cables!

"Maybe you could paint it pink and print "I'M A CONSERVATIVE AND I VOTE" on it."

Brilliant idea!:D

How about some George Wallace commemorative grip panels?

What about a pink 1895 Nagant revolver:D they don't get any cheaper than that and the ammo is almost impossible for any normal gang banger to find. not to mention most normal people couldn't find it

I second the cheap .22's! Mine is an old, super-tiny, H.R. Victor .22 Short revolver.....with a 10 pound trigger pull....

I got it for cleaning the elderly neighbors' rain gutters in the summer. So I guess it costs about $10 :D No love lost there.

Vermonter - impromptu hunting

Hey, Vermonter:

I only hunt legally and have serious distain for poachers. By "impromptu hunting" I mean those occasions when I head to the woods for another reason. . . .wood cutting, fishing, blind or stand maintenance and hunting opportunity presents itself in the form of abundant squirrels, or some such. Have done some of my best rabbit hunting "impromptu" but always legal.

Live well, be safe

Must not be "manly" enough for some of these guys :) I have no doubt as to its usefullness having used a 22 many times.
