Toughest Man....?

Glenn, we do those kinds of drills in the dojo, too. Weapon deflections and takeaways are easier than many people might think.

Since we are talking about movie tough guys and becaue being mentaly tough is sometimes more difficult than being physicaly tough...

Vigo Mortenson in The Road.

I don't know how I would be able to go on in such a bleak world while trying to single handedly raise and protect a young boy.

(And he did it all with an old revolver and just two bullets)

Toughest Man: Arnold in THE TERMINATOR

Baddest Gun: TIE

First two characters immediately coming to mind is (1) Steve McQueen in 'Getaway' ... and (2) Charles Bronson in 'Hard Times' at a New Orleans backwoods bar. Both men rarely showed any emotion in their determination to get things done. :)

If we expand the list to books (with a touch of realism), there is a novel by Josh Bazell, Beat the Reaper.

In it a young mafia assasin goes into witness protection and medical school. Later he is attacked by associates looking for revenge. Locked in a big frig, naked - waiting for the head guy to come kill him - he removes an unnecessary lower leg bone from one of his legs. Done, by using a rough shelf edge. Then he sharpens the bone and fights his way out with it as an edged weapon.

That's fictional tough at its best. It's a pretty good read.

BRUCE WILLIS !! the die hard movies, pulp fiction, armageddon, hostage, the last boyscout, he had a brace of 1911's in some 20's gangster type movie that kicked butt (the last man standing)and so on. bruce is also a republican and big supporter of gun rights. the rock in faster and he carried the alaskan in .454 casull. one guy that noone has mentioned is denzell washington, he's pretty badass. jason statham in the transporter movies. jackie chan does his own stunts as well as an unknown, tony ja from ong bak. i'm 40 and have never seen any audie murphy movies but after all you have said about him i'll be changing that soon. toughest gun has to be the alaskan, or maybe lara crofts pair of autos (someone please identify them) in tomb raider. yeah angelina is tough too now that i brought her up (wanted and mr & mrs smith, tomb raider, etc)

Glenn, I suppose it was explained in the book, but why didn't the guy just break off some metal component from the fridge?

or maybe lara crofts pair of autos (someone please identify them) in tomb raider.

Those happen to be Two-Tone H&K USP's with compensators.

And just to make an overdue correction, Sam Jackson as "Jules" carried a 9mm Star Model B in Pulp Fiction. Vincent Vega (John Travolta) carried the Auto Ordnance 1911 in .45ACP.

Look at the difference in muzzle diameter.

Jules also refers to his weapon as "Mr. 9mm" in the beginning. Just a side note.

Audie Murphy - hands down. He was The Man.

Then Alvin York - not just for conspicuous bravery, but for his aversion to violence - he kilt all them Germans to save lives.

But - for a TV character - how can you forget Lucas McCain and his Winchester with the big loop lever? The local Sheriff would have been lost without his number one citizen sodbuster to back him up. And the Winchester is an American icon.

In the movies, gotta go with Bruce Willis. Shooting anything, or with his bare hands. He simply can't be killed.

Expand the list to books? No question - John Clark from all the Clancy stories. Former 3rd SOG (before they were SEALS), CIA legend, highly intelligent, extreme pistolero, Rainbow Six, and always a force to be reckoned with. Once wiped out half the drug dealers in Baltimore before he had to die so he could join the CIA.

Charles Bronson in 'Hard Times' at a New Orleans backwoods bar

Great movie, is it on DVD? Loved coburns role in that. Also red sun with Bronson, another good flick. Also the mechanic with Bronson. Any movie with Bronson is a good one IMHO :)

I've heard of ripping someone's leg off,,,
and beating them to death with the bloody stump.

But using my own leg?,,,
Seems a bit more than I could make myself do.

Ouch!

Real tough man? That hiker cut his own arm off to get free of the boulder fell on it.

Them soccer players in the Andes went donner party to survive the ordeal and ended up hiking off the mountain.

That hiker sure had a decesion to make, he is alive today.

LT,
Name's (Jules) Pitt, and you. . . . (j/k ;) )

What a name, though. . . .

And a masculine personification for his handgun, too- Fu! . . . Ouch! . . .

:)
