Toughest Man....?

1. The Black Knight from the Holy Grail, becomes unarmed and unlegged and still wants to tussle, pretty tough.

2. Hellboy's revolver, the Samaritan.

Toughest man to ever wield a gun in a movie?
Ben Stiller as Four-Leaf Tayback in Tropic Thunder.

In the opening scene, he is shot between 27 and 35 times in the back with AK rifles in an homage to the movie Platoon as C. Sheen.

Then, while being carried directly afterward, he blocks a grenade thrown at a helicopter with his hands, blowing them clean off; only to survive and speak with RDJ about war in general, and later to write a book about his exploits.

Tough? You decide...

Besides that, there's really no one that's going to stand up to Bruce Willis as Lieutenant John McClain in my eyes.

What a feaking "Everyman".

As far as the toughest gun, I'll cast a few votes.
Tom Jane's Colt 1911's as seen and used in "The Punisher" remake.

The Beretta 92FS, as used by Bruce Willis in Die Hard 1-3, The McManus Brothers in The Boondock Saints, Special Agent Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible: II, Jason Bourne in The Born Ultimatum, the US Army Rangers in Black Hawk Down, Mel Gibson as Martin Riggs in Lethal Weapon 1-4, Owen Wilson in Behind Enemy Lines, and God knows how many more.

And finally the Model 29/29 Smith and Wesson in .44magnum as used by Mr. Callahan in Dirty Harry.

LT3, Tropic Thunder was a hoot, but that scene is an homage to Willem Dafoe, not Charlie Sheen.

Actually, Martin Scorsese said he immediately knew he wanted Dafoe to play Jesus in The Last Temptation of Christ when he saw that scene in Platoon, and Dafoe's pose with arms outstretched.

Sorry for the veer.

John Malkovich, Red, S&W, 500 I believe.

It was a Smith and Wesson 460V chambered in the new .460 S&W Magnum.

Milla Jovovich also carries a pair in the Resident Evil: Afterlife movie.

1. Audie Murphy- the guy wasn't just 'brave', he was a true killer, the guy most likely to come out of a firefight in one piece. His MOH incident was not his only time to shine, he had already won a slew of medals and burried many a kraut by the time that happened. Very few people in American military history in his same league.

2. Any gun being wielded by Audie Murphy, he was pretty beast when he picked up that MG42!

Aaaah, I feel stupid for saying that. I was just reading an article on Sheen and wrote his name instead. Thanks for the correction.

LT3, if that were the dumbest thing I were to say in a given day, I'd feel pretty good about it.

Cheers,

I certainly agree with Audie Murphy and especially Charles Bronson but I'd like to give a mention of the character Festus Haggen, who had a combination of stubborness and toughness that is characteristic of a lot of people I knew when I was growing up. Also Harry Carey, who wasn't so much a tough as he was a father figure by the time talkies came along, but he was a real father figure to John Wayne, with whom he appeared in a few movies. Carey was also from The Bronx, so he must have been tough.

Can't think of any guns worth mentioning.

Clint Eastwood, it's a 44 mag and it'll blow your head clean off

Maybe, but he carried light .44 specials as he himself described in Magnum Force

I thought Dwayne Johnson was pretty tough with his Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in .454 Casull in the recent movie Faster

Then again, I've got to admit that, while not an All-American hero, Arnie Schwarz sure did play some tough characters in a few movies; especially one.
Terminator3-09.jpg

Him using his M79, minigun, and 1887 reminiscent of John Wayne in the second movie was pretty iconic.

And how about him as John Krugar in The Eraser, dual wielding a pair of EM Rail Guns after pulling a 16" metal stake through his leg?

Audie is a for sure as is Lee Marvin but there was a guy flew planes when he coulda been making movies, Jimmy Stewart, he was tough in many ways.

the character Festus Haggen
One of the original "Sons of the Pioneers" with that cowboy had a horse name trigger :) Roy Rogers, he was tough too, could wheelie a motorcycle as good as he could rear up a horse.

Toughest man? cant narrow it down to just one, Uncle Ben had his liver shot out in Nam, got a blood transfusion every 2 weeks.

Godfather Danny McGonigal, shot up in Nam, took 10 or more in his back, is still kicking.

Uncle Butch, 3 tours in Nam was at tet no longer with us.

Grandpa Rich, was a bataan survivor, he was tough, very tough. I miss him a lot.

I never knew them screen folks, my heros were guys I know and knew personally.

We had a jockey run a horse in a race, horse threw jockey, he was broke up would never walk again. He is a high up in the racing commision these days, he is tough, most woulda given up, he hung on and is the leader of his life. Cant post his name, didnt ask him if I could.

Movie folks are mostly fake. My heros lived it. Audie was one of mine, used to watch that movie he did, Shane. I still watch it.

don't forget

Quigly, and his Sharps. some long distance shooting, and lost in the outback. and his line. "I said I didn't like them I didn't say i didn't know how to use them" referring to using a six gun.

#1 Toughest Man --- Lee Marvin, he was actually related to and named after Robert E. Lee. Was a WW2 sniper, got shot up on Saipan. He starred as a tough guy in many films, one comes to mind, 'Point Blank' in which he, single-handed, takes on the Mob.

#2 Toughest Handgun...I've owned and shot lots of handguns, larger and smaller too, but the S&W M29 44 Magnum, is the one gun that makes me feel almost invincible. Kicks hard, shoots straight, hits hard.. Harry Callahan got it right.
