I suspect my rural postman is a little annoyed with me.

Yesterday - I received a box from Friendwood Bullet Mfg. with 500 each .380, 500 each 357 and 500 each .45 lead bullets. This was from an order I place in mid-June.

Today - I received a box from Precision Delta with a thousand 9mm and a thousand .45 bullets all in FMJ's from an order I placed in late March.

I still don't have them all hauled down to my reloading bench.
 
TY Walmart

Two local walmarts got a good shipment of ammo, lots of 9mm value packs and 22lr 325 round packs. They had lots of 223 as well. The biggest ammo shipment I've seen in recent days. Suspect it'll still all be gone by tomorrow
 
LGS had lots of 50 round boxes of Winchester 22 LR, copper plated HP for $4.95 a box. Cop shop had 9mm Blazer Brass for 13.95 - Austin, TX.

Plenty of AR mags and guns.
 
Visited a store called "Fin Feather Fur" in Ohio. They had no shortage of ammo or firearms. They even had bulk packs and full cases for sale. They had a variety of every major caliber. Only problem was their "sale" prices were around double what they should be. They had a wall full of AR's but they were all still panic prices. Huge store but hardly anyone in it. The few people that were there weren't buying any ammo. They walked right past the big ammo "sale" displays and didn't even look at them. People were mostly buying clothes and other hunting related items. The few that did look at their ammo quickly walked away once they read the price.

Their so called "sale" prices:
Tula 7.62x39 - $10/box
Blazer 9mm 115gr - $21/box
Remington 9mm 115gr - $20/box
Federal .308 - $21/box
WWB .45 ACP - $20/box or $40/100rd bulk pack
CCI .22LR - $10/100

They had more types for sale, those were just the ones I could remeber from one of the displays they had. With the amount of ammo that wasn't being sold, it looks like people might finally be coming to their senses. Hopefully the store will start lowering their prices to move their inventory.
 
Is it worth the price to reload nowadays? I'm looking to mainly load for my .38 using a little hand loader, but I don't know what goods prices are before it offsets the cost of just using ammo. Right now, I have a couple boxes of home defense loads, but for practicing, I can get a bag of reloads (50) for $12.

The loaded ammo prices have gone up, too. So I think they've remained the same relative to one another. The two haven't always gone up and down at exactly the same time, though, so you might find a few months were the ammo supply catches up before the reloading supplies do, in which case there may be a brief period when reloading seems expensive.

For me it depends on how much time you have. If you have more time than money, then the investment in a setup may be well worth it for you.

I get a pound of powder for $34 which will reload more than a 1000 rounds of 9mm.

I get 1000 rounds of 9mm lead cast bullets for $78 delivered

I get 1000 small pistol primers for $38

I get 1000 once fired 9mm brass (can reload 4 or five times before I replenish) for $25.

For me that's $175 roughly for 1000 rounds. and $150 per 1000for the next 4000 rounds.

The thing is it's a hobby for me and paying $17.50 for 100 rounds is worth it to me.

I usually do about 300 per batch at a time and do them in stages over a week.

De-prime (includes resizing in one step and clean them one day. Then another day I put new primers another day...and so on.

For guys who mold their own bullets, they save a little more. Especially if they get deals on lead....but I would not recommend that for beginners.

I do have a friend who gets his lead free and mixes his tin for near nothing and gets free brass. He averages $8 per hundred on 9mm.
 
Bricks Of .22LR Ammo

IF you can find them or have bought one lately what was your cost ?

i was thinking about adding a couple of bricks to my collection, but i believe $29.95 is too much for a 500 round brick

i want to get a general consensus of prices across this great country of ours.
personally, over the past 30+ years i have bought a brick or two, i buy more than i shoot, i think the first brick i bought was $6.50 or $7.50, the last one was about 3 years ago and it cost around $16.95

at the present rate of shooting them i am probably good for another 100 years !! ;) ;)
 
A brick SHOULD retail for around $20-$22. Good luck on finding any. People have been in uncontrolled panic buying mode since Sandy Hook. I understand ARs being subject of panic buying, but 22 ammo? There you go.

On the Gunbroker auction site bricks were selling for $100+ (+ shipping) for several months. Now they seem to be going for $40-$50 for the most part.

Local shops tell me they can't get it. Ammo companies say they are producing at max level. Where is it going? Appears to be disappearing somewhere in the supply line.

Been bad. No idea when it will get better. I haven't needed to buy any so I am just waiting.
 
Walmart hasn't raised their prices on ammo at all. Bulk packs are still in the $20-$25 range depending on which brand. My local stores get 2 shipments a week that include about a case each of all the popular calibers. .22lr is sold out within a few hours, and 9mm/.223 by the end of the day. .40/.45 stick around for at least a few days.

As for the crunch... manufacturers are probably starting to look forward to the Holidays where they need things to be in stock. I wouldn't be surprised if manufacturers are holding back some product in reserve in an attempt to flood the market in Nov/Dec so Timmy can have a few boxes of ammo with his new Cricket.
 
Received 20 bricks about a month ago that had been on a 9 month back order.....$34 each. It's target grade ammo, not the cheap bulk stuff.

Sure beats the price I saw yesterday on bulk packs (325 rounds) of Federal Automatch at $50 each at a gun shop. They wanted $15 for a 50ct box of Remington.... I just shook my head.....

My general view is that if you need it, you buy it. If you don't really need any 22 ammo, then you sit and wait for prices and availability to hopefully come back to normal. I'm in the waiting camp.

I haven't seen ANY 22LR ammo at Walmart in 8 months.
