9mm has been my Achilles heal it seems. I can get .223 any day of the week at any time...
Not sure why the hoarding shifted to 9mm.

Thinking of switching to something in .45acp but, what if everyone does that right as I do it lol.

Academy does it fairly at least for the early birds.

The local Walmart still allowing one guy to buy it all up when the truck comes in. He turns it around on Craigslist

I would report your Walmart to corporate. Considering they have a corporate policy of 3 boxes per person per day. If they allow one person to buy it all the manager will be in BIG trouble.

The Glendale Walmart had a box of .357 mag and a box of .308, and almost an entire revolving display of AR-15's.

Things are improving, I guess...

Still a .22lr shortage

Today I saw a classified ad in our local paper by someone selling bulk boxes of .22lr ammo (500-550 rounds) for $65.00. Previously same seller was asking $50.00. There must be a demand.
I met a fellow who lines up at Wal-Mart about 5 a.m. almost every morning with a dozen or so others and waits for the truck to come in. When it gets there a clerk reads a list of what ammo has come that day. The waiters stand in line and get no more than three boxes each for about $15.00. Those of us that shop during the day are flat out of luck.
I stocked up during the first big scare 4 1/2 years ago and am happy I did. But, more so, I hope this panic buying craze ends soon.

Still quite short on supply around here. When it is available theres a limit of one bulk box per day per customer or two smaller boxes. Price seems to be about $2 per bulk box more than it was before we created a shortage.

Also noticed the online sellers that have any put two box limit on bulk boxes. The big surprise is that the quantity on some of the bulk boxes has decreased from 500 to 350 per box while the price has remained at the old 500 level.

Will be interesting to see where prices level off once it becomes more available. Everything but 22 seems to be in half way decent supply.

I just came back from the Cabelas in Allen TX they had a few boxes of Federal .22LR auto match ammo I was quite surprised; I didn't buy any though, I was looking for .45 Oregon Trail SWC bullets. It seems supply is indeed gettin a little better.

Surprisingly, there's lots of AR type rifles on the shelves. I think people went to get an AR early in the panic and settled on pistols.

Ontario gun show this past weekend (3-4 of August). AR’s appear to be readily available with near pre-panic pricing. A bare AR I did not see most likely because the money/profit is in the attached accessories.

Ammo pricing is of LAX because their booth/table was the most convenient for me to see. Like most shows I don’t have the luxury of browsing the show.

Federal 5.56/223 per 1000 rd case was $560.

9mm 50 rd box name brand was about $21.

9mm LAX reloads broke down to about $18 per box of 50.

45ACP LAX reloads, guessing, about $28 per box of 50

22LR was not available at all from LAX.

Most folks I see with the popular Magna Cart folding hand truck can’t justify having the cart because when actually used the amount of ammo on the cart could have been easily carried by hand. In other words the ammo bought weights no more than the cart itself.

My guess is many are spending resources on looking/browsing and not much else.

I was at the Cabela's in Hammond, IN today. They had just about every kind of ammo except .22 rimfire and 9mm, though they did have a few boxes of CCI .22 short.

For reloading there was a lot of boxes of 9mm bullets, but no brass except for .40s&w. They had some powder of various types, large rifle primers, Winchester large pistol primers, and Remington small pistol primers. But prices for the primers were $40/1000, which is about $5 more than I remember it last time I was there. Don't know if that's Cabela's or their suppliers jacking up the price.

But overall much, much better than it was just a few months ago! Barring another tragic incident for the pols to jump on I think we're almost out of the crisis.

Backordered die sets

Well, it's happened again. Midway has my Hornady die sets in a 4th backorder status. And I'm not blaming Midway here. In the past, I've heard many explanations for the backorder situation. The latest is, "The manufacturers have a set schedule (run) per year/month/quarter or whatever, and they haven't had a chance to catch up." Most people at my LGSs think there is something more to this "shortage"...and I'm starting to wonder myself. Why would die sets take so long to "catch up?" I mean, how much demand can there be for a particular die set? Unlike bullets, powders etc., once you've made the purchase, you're done with it.

Ammo is getting scarce!
This morning I lucked out and was able to buy two boxes of ammo.

I placed the boxes on the front seat and headed back home, but stopped at a gas station where a drop-dead gorgeous blonde in a short skirt was filling up her car at the next pump.

She glanced at the two boxes of ammo, bent over and leaned in my passenger window, and said in a sexy voice, "I'm a big believer in barter, old fella. Would you be interested in trading sex for ammo?"

I thought for a few seconds and asked,
"What kind of ammo 'ya got?"

Still don't understand this supply thing

Everyday I check about 10 online sources of reloading supplies and everyday nothing much, if anything, changes. Occasionally some powder might be available, but it usually disappears shortly. The component that I need worst is bullets for 204 Ruger. Most websites won't allow backorder---a few will. But for those that won't allow backorder---like Powder Valley (by the way, Powder Valley is a great vendor---it just happens that they don't allow back orders)--it seems that eventually a person would get lucky and check their site when they have something available. Supposedly all of the manufacturers are working hard full time to keep putting out at capacity. So how does this work? Where are all of the Berger bullets going? Nobody manufactures ammo using the Berger 35 gr. 20 cal bullet except HSM, so it surprises me that nothing ever shows up online or in the local stores.

Just had to get this posted as I have wondered for 3-4 months what the story is about this.

I wish they would open a Cabela's and Academy in Central FL :(

All we have are Gander, Bass Pro, and that other place Dick's... Walmarts are always bare. I go to my LGS to buy my ammo most of the time.

Is anyone involved in the ammunition industry?
Around me there is a 50/50 chance walmart will have any round except 22lr when you go. I know from past experience this means there will be things on the shelves soon.
I just wonder if anyone has "insider" info on what the 22lr backlog is like time wise. I know something as simple as a presidential speech could ramp up demand again, but if things continue on their present course, what sort of time frame are we looking at?

I don't have any "insider" info. But I don't have any problem finding 22LR. As gets suggested right here all the time, free yourself from the idea of needing to go down to your local Wally's and "pick up a box or two". Get online to one of the many ammo bot sites and shop from home.

I actually have quite a bit on hand. I am just curios as to when it might normalize.
I generally avoid buying ammunition online except for LARGE orders(milsurp bulk I can't get locally). The hazmat charge ticks me off.

There is no HazMat charge for buying loaded ammo.

Sgt Lumpy

Fed-ex requires hazmat.
UPS requires ORM-D.
USPS will not mail.
Maybe some places don't upcharge, but I know I payed an up-charge the last time I bought ammo. GP11 and 7.62 Nagant from somewhere. It was probably 4 years ago. Was still cheap, but the small fee for the packaging ticked me off.
Why would I go online and pay shipping to buy things walmart carries at the same prices anyways?

I have full mags and then some on all my center fires and a good bit of 22lr. I haven't bought anything but 22lr in years. For one thing, I don't shoot that much center-fire anymore.
