Academy in Baton Rouge had some ammo. One box per caliber. They had just about everything. 20 rounds of .223 55gr for $4.99. 124 gr 9mm FMJ for $15.99. I also BOUGHT .410 of which they had plenty. 38s where not limited but it was $17.99 for 50 rounds of FMJ I passed.

All shortage posts are now supposed to go in the single shortage thread in the general forum. I will merge this thread in over there.

WalMart had a bunch of PPU .223 today.

FMJBT 55 grain.

Selling at under $8 per 20 round box.

Still a three-box limit. I'm sure it will be gone in a few hours.

They said they got some .22 LR (don't know what kind) in and it was gone in hours.

Good Day from the Big Brown Truck (UPS). I received a set of .45 Colt reloading dies and a hundred each fifty count plastic ammunition boxes (50 boxes for .380./9mm and 50 boxes for .45 ACP/10mm). Dies came from Midway and the plastic boxes came from Berry's. :)

Got lucky yesterday at WalMart and actually found 7.62x39 Tulammo and only $5.19 a box. Could only buy 3 boxes, but as luck would have it, my wife needed 3 boxes of it too.

Academy Sports, (West) Little Rock, AR

I went to Academy Sports on W. Markham in LR, AR, today. Was advised by worker that an ammo truck is due in on Sunday, 26 May 2013.

ETA: I also stopped at one Walmart, which had 2 boxes of 9mm and a guy waiting to buy them both. So I went to a second WM, which had 6 boxes of 9mm fmj on the shelf. I bought 3, and another guy bought the other 3. (Limit 3 boxes per customer).

Any tips on finding ammo?

I'm a fairly young guy, a college student and only became interested in owning guns about two months before the panic hit. I'll admit, I may have contributed to the shortage, but I'm gonna give myself a break due to my ignorance.

Anyways I still for the life of me can't find ammo at a decent price. How have you guys been going about this lately? Should I just pay the gougers prices or put my new hobbie on hold for a few months? I keep hearing about these shipments that come into Walmart in the morning but I'm honestly doubting they exist. I check mine about 5 times a week and it looks like the ammo shelf hasn't even been touched, nothing's moved.

Idk I don't mean to whine, I'm just unsure how to go about this.

South Texas

From what I've found living in South Texas is that between Academy, Bass Pro, and 3 Walmarts, if I study when to go where on what days, I can usually find whatever I need. Yesterday I got lucky with Walmart, one of them almost always has 45acp on the day that I go, but rarely has 9mm, and I got 3 boxes of 100 rounds of 9mm. The price was fairly decent too. I think it's getting easier to find ammo down here anyway. Good luck getting your ammo.

Just happened to stop by WalMart to pick up a graduation card. Popped into the sporting goods section and was surprised to see WWB .380, .40 and .45. There was also a lot of PPU .223. Other rifle calibers pretty well stocked with Winchester brand.

A few CCI Stingers 50 round boxes .22LR.

Shotgun shells were plentiful, all gauges.

No 9mm or 7.62x39, but this particular WalMart was typically out of them pre-panic.

Pops1085, welcome to the asylum, but sadly, you picked a rotten time to become interested in guns. I'm convinced that the bubble is bursting, but it will still take some time to prices to return to "normal." I don't know that we'll ever see true pre-panic prices again, but I do think prices will go down. At some point, the gougers will (or have) run out of money, and the bank and the credit card companies will sill have to be paid. That means that those fellers will have to sell something, even if it means selling below where they'd like to be.

If you have enough ammo to shoot a little, that's great. As for acquiring new ammo, you'll need to do at least two things (IMO):
1) Be patient. The ammo shipments will arrive, and there will be folks waiting to buy. You'll just have to be in the right place at the right time.
2) Make friends and network. A couple of weeks ago, a LGS had ~75 boxes of 9mm. I texted 10-15 friends about it. Yesterday, I texted them about an ammo shipment that is supposed to come in today. My friends return the favor when they see "my calibers" in stock.

I was able to pick up a box of 9mm Remington ammo at my local range on my last outing. Big props for not raping me at 15.00 for 50

Have bought a few boxes of the Tulo Russian stuff at 10 bucks a box at Wally World on the few occasions I can be there on the random lucky day and at 7 am.

What I can not find at all is 32acp. Non exist ant here in SWFL

cabelas.com has .32 for $26.99 a box if you're really in need of it. It's more than Walmart, which occassionally gets it by me in Wisconsin.

Just picked up 500 rounds of 200gr Rainier plated bullets from Cabelas for approx $77 plus shipping. They ship for $5 if your order goes over $100.

Anyone see large pistol primers anywhere?

I ask, they tell me how much has come in recently. Some are more knowledgeable than others. It's not set times when ammo comes out at the local wal mart. When it does, it often sells before it get IN the display case. They've been getting powder in also, and primers now and then.

I look at the unpacked pallets on the floor near sporting goods, I've found ammo on the bottom of the pallet a couple times, and rousted out a sporting goods person to get it and sell me some.

If you have a smart phone, get the WalMart app. You can add the ammo you are looking for to a shopping list and it gives you the ability to check your local store's inventory. When the truck hits the dock with your ammo on it (usually in the evening), it will show up as in stock before it actually hits the shelf so if you go early the next morning around the time they normally stock the shelves, you have a much better chance of getting what you want. Different stores will stock at different times but it shouldn't be too difficult to find out when your particular store "normally" does it.

I check the app for what I am looking for after 9:00pm. It will either say No Stock, Limited Stock (usually means 4 or fewer packs) or In stock. I have used this method to score .22lr, .38 special, .357 magnum, .45 ACP .40 S&W and 9mm at my local Wally World with a 100% hit rate so far. Of course, YMMV

It's all about being at the right place at the right time, on my lunch break I walk next door to cabelas just to see what they have , found a few 525 bricks of 22lr for 23 bucks , bought a box, and will by another when I get off work, then the last box tomorow, they'll be in stock on one of the shelves heh heh
