The war in iraq debate- help me out!

Bin Laden was based in Afghanistan not Iraq. So far there has never been any evidence of ties with Iraq to 9/11.

Alright, another thread to rapidly spiral out of control that has nothing to do with guns, accessories, or civil liberties issues!

Blah, blah, blah.

I'm sorry i thought they might be smart enough to buy a tarp and cover it up.My mistake the smart ones died flying the jets. All i was doing was voicing one option they had. It is much better having the terrorist worry about where they are going to hide at that night than give them enough time to think up another plan to attack

very smart ones........

why do you think they used planes instead of nerve agent and missles?

they were already here and nothing had to be smuggled in. All the terrorists had to do was take flight lessons.

The terrorists dont have to smuggle anything in..they have all the raw materials in the US.

The WMD angle is a sure fire way to lose the debate. Even the Bush administration has admitted they weren't there.

I'd give them this line. We're in the Oil Age. The economy of the entire industrialized world relies on oil. Not just cheap gas for your SUV, but everything from soda bottles to pharmacuticals. Oil reserves are not going to last forever, so it is vitally important that they are not controlled by hostile governments. If you thought OPEC had us by the short & curlies during the oil embargoes in the 1970s, you haven't seen anything yet. Whoever controls Middle Eastern oil will have a knife at the throat of the rest of the world. You will be much happier if it's a puppet government in Iraq than if it's Saddam's kids, or the French.

Your teacher will either give you an A, or have a stroke.

The war in Iraq is a hard sell. 50% of the public are democrats, 90% of the media are democrats and all are Nowagainst the war. Of course the Democrats voted for the war to get us in ther and then turned around and cried "WE BEEN LIED TO so they can turn against what they voted for.

The lies didn't start with the republicans, all the democrats can be found in a nexus search saying that there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. They were saying it before Bush got elected so who is the liar?

The bad part is we have sent our sons and daughters over there to act as live bait for every terrorist that will challenge us. However the democrats and the media are trying to undermine what has been done and being done to make the President look bad (politics).

The democrats are trying to turn this into another losing war like they did Vietnam and we have men on the ground dying because of their politics. I have seen this up close in Iraq

Does common sense prevail ANY DAMNED WHERE?

Saddam used WMD's...

Saddam had HAD WMD's...

Bush had reports of several indicators that the WMD's were still there...

He waited 9 DAMNED MONTHS for the freakin' corrupted UN Officials to respond to his totally legal and reasonable charges and requests for UN action!!

And when we finally got to Baghdad...
SOMEHOW these WMD's couldn't be found... duuuuhhhhh!?

and, therefore, NEVER existed??
DUUUHHHHHH????

Anyone who can't see this has S F B!!!!!!!!! :barf:

ALSO, when we got there, all those billions in cash weren't there either...
I guess it never existed...

S F B's what the hell part of all this don't you understand????

The only conceivable (to me) possible benefit of this war is that it seems to be acting as a "terrorist heat sink". Instead of suicidal terrorist maniacs walking across our wide open Southern border, and blowing themselves up in the USA, they are blowing themselves up in Iraq - for now.

I can't think of a single good reason for this war other than that. Hope it helps your debate though.

Eghad

In all probability... they are in Syria

Regardless of where they are... they will turn up... ;)

Where is the money????

If you're just "concieving" there are many reasons...

Most important to me, is that the genocide and torture is, at least, stopped for now.

Also important is that IF we can get just ONE democratic Society established in Islam... It will be a magnet of freedom to some 1.7 billion oppressed people.

That's the American way... ;)

Oil is, basically the life's-blood of the modern world... we have no choice... It is self-defense on the HIGHEST scale. :)

Arguments, "Like show me the perp's weapon?" are feeble, at best, and that should be understandable to any "gun rights" person on this forum.

All the evidence that was relied on was form a source the CIA called Curveball..

the mobile BW trailers, aluminum pipes, ect. Curveball was also the brother to one of Chalibi's top aides... hrmmm Chalabi where have we heard that name from?

There is no proof of the WMD's just your opinion. Mr. Kay couldnt find them and he was handpicked by Bush.

And what they don;t have they can readily bring in from Mexico or Canada as long as they don;t use a commercial jets, now that the gwb administration has fired most of the border guards.:D

the best argument to me is

Saddam signed a treaty with various conditions (UN inspectors, bans on certian weapons, ect)to stay in power

Saddam broke thoose conditions(first limiting inspection then kicking out inspectors)

US/UN tells him to be good, doesn't work

Clinton lobs missles still doesn't work

US agian says follow the conditions of your treaty. Saddam doesn't

after trying to get this leader of a nation to follow the agreement he made to end the first gulf war and having failed we Invade

so my arguement is that by breaking the treaty to end the first gulf war Saddam voids it making this a contination of the first gulf war

There were several reasons for the war in Iraq!

1. Some business between GWB and his daddy over Dad's failure to take down Saddam. This still galled some of the leftovers from Bush I's administration. That is a stupid reason

2. WMDs - a good reason but they weren't there and that's that. Some folks have to claim they were there and destroyed or hidden but that's delusional.

3. A theory (neo-con and others) that we have a mission to bring democracy to the world. Depends if you feel like a missionary - if so assume the position. Do we have such a mission - many feel not unless it benefits us.

4. The Middle East is producing terrorists and increasing becoming fundamentalist Islamic. Having those folks attack us so we get out of their sacred land and/or having them with the oil knife to our throat is a bad thing. If we overthrew Saddam, it was thought that we could a revival of reasonableness and some secular sensibility (ouch for GWB) in the area. Thus terrorism would cease, oil would flow. A side effect is that oil companies get richer.

#4 is most reasonable. The problem is that it is not clear that Iraq is going well according to some. Dean C. gives positive indicators. There are folks that give negative and predict more trouble for us. More terrorists, a long term occupation, more hatred in the Middle East. Dean things the indicators mean the war was necessary. However, a good outcome for Iraq, if it directly doesn't influence us, may not be worth it. There are lots of places that suck and we could fix but why? A generalized mission of democracy. Do we have to conquer the world?

So it is an empirical question. If just forming a democracy is good and Iraq goes that way, that is nice. If Iraq becomes a center of such and influences the rest of the Middle East then GWB is quite the man. If the war flops and things get worse, he is a fool

We just don't know now. It is clear that if you agree with the #4, my initial position - that GWB mishandled the war and its aftermath. There is almost total agreement on all quarters, conservative and liberal on that. The question is can we still fix it. I hope we can. I also have no faith in GWB ability or his close advisors abilities. Let's hope the military can overcome GWB's leadership and the Iraqis get their act together.

*Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq and phone use has gone up 158%?
Did you know that if the Iraqis wanted better cell phone coverage, and everything else on that list, it was their responsibility to get rid of Saddam and replace him with whatever government they saw fit.
