The PPQ M2's goofy looks

Larger trigger guards allow room for gloved fingers.

You might be surprised by all the little things that get considered during design, like that.

While not a firearm related thing... I have seen recordings of Dieter Rams talking about design of products... And if you don't know who he is.... Well, he is probably the greatest industrial designer there was, and inspired pretty much all of Apple's designs over the last 15 years.

The amount of attention he placed on even the smallest details was extensive.

I would imagine any top level firearms manufacturer, working on new designs, would do the same.

And I love the paddle mag release on the M1 PPQ, and HK stuff...

After about the second mag change, using my trigger finger, it was ingrained in me. So much easier to use than a push button. My hands will not reach a button on any pistol 9mm and up without adjusting my grip.

I love the paddle so much, that I lament my pistols that do not have it. To the point I swap them to the other side of the frame on any that I can. (I used to do a similar technique on my XD I had 10 years ago)

It really seems a superior method, at least for most people. Some may have hand shapes that preclude it.

Those that don't like it, I wonder if it's simply tradition and resistance to change that fuel the dislike.

Obviously this entire topic is personal opinion as to the looks, shootability and handling of poly pistols so here i go: all the poly pistols are ugly...however oothey shoot like pistols were designed to do and most are totally reliable. So i have a couple in my safe and love to shoot them but the feel of all steel with walnut grips cannot be beat.

The grip is reminiscent of the Walther P99 Grip. Do the mags interchange?

I was impressed when I had a chance to shoot the 5" barrel version. If the gun serves it's intended purpose everything else is irrelevant

The grip reminiscent of the P99 grip because (as previously mentioned) the PPQ IS a P99.

In Europe, several pistols very similar to the PPQ are marketed as the P99Q and P99RAD.

As mentioned above, P99 mags are compatible with the PPQ M1, but not the PPQ M2, as Walther unfortunately relocated the mag catch.

A comparison photo with several P99 variants:

I own a 9mm PPQ M2. It's a super good pistol. The texture pattern is a little odd but I don't dwell on it. Hard to find a box stock pistol with that good of a trigger.

I thought the PPQ looked quite odd at first, but I love it now (although the button release of the M2 still isn't my thing in form or function, which is why I bought the M1 ;) ).

It looks futuristic, avant-garde. Looks like a modern Bond gun (Pierce actually used the P99AS for at least one movie, but sadly, no PPQ yet....).

I consider Glocks to be butt-ugly, but that's another thread....

Who care what a pistol looks like??? As long as it does what it does at a exceptionally high level, it's beautiful beyond description.

Uhhh, -no-

That would be like saying:

who cares how much it weighs?
who cares how much it costs?
who cares what caliber it's in?
who cares if it's too fat?
who cares if it only comes in pink camo?

There are plenty of attributes that matter -- different for everyone.

Brosnan used the 1st-gen P99 in three Bond movies (Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day) and Craig used it in one (Casino Royale).

Sorry. Total James Bond nerd here.

As I said, the P99 was an elegant design before Walther mangled up the aesthetics of the P99RAD/P99Q/PPQ for no functional reasons.

And then they made him go back to a 380 when he is constantly getting in running gun battles and is often in a full suit making concealability relatively easy. Yea...

Since we're talking about how guns look and it's all in fun.

I think Hi-Points, PPQ's, and XD's are some of the most hideous looking firearms out there right now.

Most Glock owners accept that they have an ugly gun, but they still love them.

I suggest you close your eyes, put the PPQ in your hand, see how it fits, then pull one of the best stock triggers available on a non-1911. Now open your eyes, and I bet that the PPQ will start looking a lot better to you.

"I just can't get past its goofy, odd looks."
The PPQ2 doesn't compare with the Block er, Glock in the ugly dept!

"Hickok45 said the grips are "hideous" and "ugly"
Hmmm....Can't seem to find a single derogatory remark about the PPQ2, from Hickock.

hi

go nopro,

Go to Hickok45's review of the HK VP9! It's in that video where he comments
on the ugliness of the PPQ.
I got it slight wrong through, it said the grip is "ugly" and "atrocious looking."

"I like Hickok, but honestly who cares if he likes how a handgun looks? Is he somehow the benchmark on aesthetics?"

Sir, I concur!:D
