The Handgun(s) You Should Have Kept?

Sellers remorse is a real drag,,,

Several months back I sold a 3" LadySmith Model 36 to a friend of mine,,,
Her 2" snubbie was in the shop so I loaned her this gun for the interim.

She fired it several times and fell in love with it,,,
"I can hit the target with your gun, would you sell it to me?"

I rarely shot it and never carried it,,,
And she is a good friend,,,
So I let her buy it.

I miss that little gun, dangit!

Funny story about it... I saw one of these at a local gunshop in Columbus, OH and didn't pounce on it right then. After I went home I got to thinking about it and decided I better go back and get it... but by the time I got back to the store they had sold it. Lesson learned: Don't hesitate!

So, about a week later, I was in another shop and, by God, they had one! I did NOT hesitate!

Once I got it home I saw the barrel/forcing cone looked like it had been cut with a dull hacksaw by a 6-year old, and the first range session confirmed this... I think I had to pick the chunks of lead out of my supporting hand. So I sent it back to S&W, they cleaned it up and tuned the trigger...

That was the first 5 rounds down the tube... and I wasn't even trying.

I wound up selling it to fund my purchase of a Springfield Socom16... I sold it and 2 other pistols to get the loot for the Springfield. While I love my Socom, I really wish I wouldn't have sold off that beautiful 657... :(

RIA 1911 milspec. Cheapest of the cheap 1911's, butt man would that thing shoot. I've not had a 1911 since, though it's on my list, and I could shoot that better than any other pistol I've fired. One tattered hole at 15 yards and 4" or so groups at 25 yards. Ah... Memorries.

Years back I sold my gun collection, don`t ask why. The 3 that I really miss are Smith #52, smith Model 41 and Colt Woodsman Target barrel. I`m now activally looking to replace the 2 Smiths

I can think of three. Ruger P90 and a Ruger MKII blued target model. I got another MKII that was the same model years later, but haven't found a cheap P90 in a long time around here.

The one I miss the most was a custom 1911 built on an Essex frame. It was the first handgun I ever bought. It came with a Barsto barrel, Bo-mar sights, and assortment of misc GI parts. I got it from a SSgt I used to know who needed the money. He in turn got it from an armory guy while he was stationed in Quantico. This person supposedly built guns for the Marine Corps shooting team at the time and built the gun as a gift for my friend.

Besides being a tack driver, this gun was a great platform for me to learn about the 1911. I went on to customize it further myself by fitting in a new extended thumb safety, Wilson hammer and sear, Pachymer trigger and MSH, and even a refinishing job. Bottomline, this gun had developed a lot history. I was an idiot for selling it thinking I didn't need another .45acp. I still look for it whenever I frequent any of the local gunshops to see if it turns up by chance.

Contender in 30 Herrit. Traded for a Remington XP 100 hatted the XP.

Stoeger Luger 22 cal. cheapest and sweetest pistol I ever owned and shot. Much prefered over my S&W 41 and my Ruger MK II.

Voree Mauser in 243. Weighed 6 pounds with scope and shot 3 rd 3/4" groups at 100 m.

Sig Sauer P220 and a Smith & Wesson 686. Have sold a few others, but I've only ever regretted selling these. Gonna have to replace them someday.

Heh...........

- Colt King Cobra 6" in SS
- S&W 547 revolver 3" in 9mm
- Ruger Mark II w/10" Bull Barrel
- Arsenal SA-93 w/Milled Receivers (two of 'em)
- Russian Hi Cap Makarov (not much to look at but had a special place in my heart)

Divorce is expensive!

The one I miss the most was an old .44 Charter Arms that I carried as a B/U,
off duty gun. I really wish I had not traded it off for something I can't even remember now.

The Handguns(s) You Should Have Kept?

The only gun I miss was a Smith & Wesson 1066 10mm. It was stolen from me in a burglary, so that couldn't be helped. I'd just spent the weekend with my girlfriend (now my wife), got back to my apartment early in the morning and had to hurry to get to work on time. I was in a rush and left the gun in my backpack instead of locking it up in the safe. dang!

The 1066 had replaced a 5" Springfield Armory 1911 .45 as my carry gun way back in the day.

There are probably about a dozen or so I wish I still had, starting with the first one I owned, around 1965. Mind you, there is no connection between cost, value, utility, accuracy, reliability, general desireability or just plain fun. I don't think I can pick just one or two. But on the other hand, there have only been one or two I wished I hadn't bought, one of which was a Sig.

I will say one thing and that is there is no substiute for actually having a particular gun if you ever expect to actually learn anything about it.

6" S&W Model 29
5-1/2" Colt Army Special in 32-20
7" Colt New Service 41 Colt
4" Colt Diamondback 22LR
6" Colt Diamondback 38 Special
6" Colt Python, Eliason sights
(yeah, I got a thing for Colts)
1911A1 frame only made by Singer

This is depressing me, do I need to keep going?

I got very, very lucky in that I was able to buy back the only gun that I totally regretted selling, a no-dash Model 67 with a teflon-on-ice trigger pull.
