The Handgun(s) You Should Have Kept?

Did you ever sell a handgun for whatever reason, only to regret it the rest of your days? I miss every gun I ever traded or sold but several stand out: an accurized GI .45 Model 1911 that wasn't very attractive but could put bullets in one ragged hole. a 3" S&W Model 37, .38 Spl, and a DWM Luger P-08, with matching numbers and which never once suffered a stoppage despite their reputation. These are three handguns I should have kept.

Nope, I buy handguns and I don't think I will ever sell one. I only buy handguns I like/want, I don't do impluse buys.

Well, before the prices sky rocketed I owned: Colt SAA # 289, A mint condition S&W # 3 in .44 Russian, a 1911 Remington Rand brand new in the original wrapper packed in cosmoline and a fully engraved, with gold inlay, Colt SAA.
I turned each for what was at that time a profit. Now the prices on each are through the roof.
Such is life.

No regrets. The only handgun I ever sold was a Taurus Judge. The gun was a blast to shoot and I had a lot of fun with it, but it had sum issues. The cylinder wouldn't always lock into place, wasn't very accurate. I had a few failure to fire's also. Not sure if it was the ammo or the gun, but it happened a lot. Not a gun I would stake my life on.

I regret selling two guns. One was a Nazi era Mauser HsC in .32 ACP. Reliable, easy to shoot, but began doubling. Should have just gotten a new sear. The other was a WWII P-38. Very accurate and reliable (used to shoot 16" disk blades with it at 100 yds) but the chamber was so rough that I would occasionally have to shoot it to get the round out of the chamber! Should have just lapped the chamber and kept it.:o

Colt Anaconda - I was told it wouldn't handle heavy .44 mag reloads. And I needed those for hunting!

Colt Police Positive .38 Spl - was just a cool little gun.

Mine was a mint Colt 1911-A1. It was brought home by a Navy Pilot at the end of WW II - had the holster, pistol belt, clip pouch and original magazines. I shot it some - couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it. I felt it was more of a collector's piece so I sold it - brought top money. Do I regret it? Sometimes. But then the Colt Python I bought - 4" barrel helps any remorse I might have once in a while. I'm more of a revolver guy anyway.

Well several years ago I had my idea of the perfect revolver built.
It started life as a clean as a pin 1955 Target in a 6" barrel length. It had the 3 T's of course. I had my gunsmith buddy rebarrel it with a New 4" Red Ramp barrel originally for a 25-5 (45 Colt).

The end result was a 25-2 with a 4" barrel with Red Ramp front sight. The 25-5 barrel also did not have the shallow rifling of a 25-2, so it would shoot lead bullets with no problem. Creating the perfect carry gun, a Deluxe Blued 4" Barrel 45 acp N Frame Revolver.
The stainless 625 I have now is just not the same gun as the Deluxe Blued N Frame 45 acp Revolver I had back then.

The What Happened Part:
Well one day I was showing my baby off, and a fellow asked me what I would take for it. I opened my mouth, and quoted a figure that I though was way over priced. The guy reached in his pocket and extracted a money clip, and started counting the One Hundred Dollar Bills out on the counter. I had no intention of ever selling it.

I did learn a very valuable lesson, and some new words. " It's Not For Sale"

+1 heyjoe
I sold 4 pistols at different times for different reasons. One I am glad to be rid of, two I wouldn't mind having back, and the S&W model 36 that I kick myself for every time I think about it.

I have sold two guns so far. One was a Beretta 9000S in 9mm and the other was a Bersa Thunder in .380. I have never been so happy to get rid of that Beretta and have always regretted getting rid of the Bersa. I bought them both on a whim and before I even shot them I had a horrible money issue and decided to sell the Bersa to take care of it. Should have sold the Beretta, it turned out to be a lemon tree (100x worse then a lemon).

Nope, I have every Handgun I ever owned starting around age 17. I just turned 73 and when I am gone they will go to my children and Grand children.;)

Biggest regret was many years ago I sold a custom 4" Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum. I had bought it used. It had a fantastic trigger and was incredibly accurate. I did not appreciate how good it was until I sold it and experienced many other handguns.

Guns I'm glad I traded:

- My first handgun, a Llama .45ACP. Seemed like soft metal and no common parts with 1911. Shot OK but it inspired me to get a real 1911 which I have today and enjoy.

- Olympic Arms pre-ban (like 1990 or so) A2 rifle. It worked fine but since not having it I ended up getting back into the Ar15 rifles and discovered they had come a long way with many options, many manufacturers and incredible quality.

Fortunately I have never sold a family hand me down firearm and over the years I enjoy those old guns more and more.

1911 Colt. U.S. Property stamped, built 1918 excellent +, just an idiot scratch. Original diamond checkered grips, and mag with lanyard loop!
I wanted something to shoot, and thought it belonged in a collectors case. Traded it for NIB S&W 645 when they first came out. About an even up trade then:eek::eek::eek:
Not now as it turns out!:(:(:(

Leading to my sig line below!

There are several but the one I still kick myself when I start thinking about it is my Browning BDA 380. I probably won't go out looking for another one but I still don't know why I got rid of it in the first place. Oh, another one comes to mind but it isn't a handgun so it really doesnt count but I'll put it here anyway, an Olympic Arms AR-15 with a match barrel. What was I thinking?

Browning Hi-Power, TC Contender, & S&W 586. Especially the HP. All were sold due to financial needs at the time. Have been considering buying another HP and/or 586 (like the blue).
