The #1 reason you carry the semi/wheel gun you do

It'sa long story..........

I started out, with CCW, back in the early or mid 80's, with a Taurus, mod
85, .38 special. I carried that a couple years & bought a Makarov, 9mm, nice little semi-auto. Autos are better, right?? I carried that a year or two.

An old friend bought a Ruger. So, I went & got a Ruger KP90, 45 acp. Nice handgun. I thought it carried like a concrete block or something, but it shot very Nice. I could really hit with that Ruger.
But another one of my friends always carried a 1911, .45acp. I handled that some......So, I went looking for one. I found a used Colt Commander 1991A1, .45, at a great price, and in great shape. I carried that a few years. But, even a Commander gets heavy.

And, I read a lot about that the average gun-incident, fight, was over in 10 seconds or so, and 3 to 5 rounds total are expended. So, I thought I'd go back to a revolver........I love Rugers. So, I bought an SP101, .357 magnum.
I've been carrying that SP101 ever since, about 8 years, more or less.

Oh, there was a little while in there, about 6 years ago, when I got thinking I needed a bigger slower bullet. So, I went looking for a .44 special. I actually found a Taurus, 2", model 450, a .45 Colt snubby. I did carry it off & on for a month or two.
But it is way fatter than my SP101. I love my SP101, with magnum rounds in it. My DSW decided I need to dress up and tuck my shirt tails in sometimes.
So, she thought it'd be nice if I had a pocket gun. And she encouraged me to get a Ruger LCR, 38special. An, it's okay, once in awhile.........
And that's my story.......I'm a wheel-gun guy. I have total Faith in revolvers.

#1 reason I carry a custom Colt Cobra:

It's the best compromise of concealability, dependablity, "shootability", and stopping power. (within the parameters of how I have to carry)

I carry my Glock 22 because Ive had it for so long that I can use it without having to think about it. After 15yrs its became part of me. There are lots of guns I like better but I cant seem to switch. I do carry something different once in a while but its rare.

On duty, my issued HK USP in 40. Fine handgun.

Off duty, commander size 1911 in 45ACP. I'm still quicker and more accurate with the 1911. Plus, flat, easy to carry, larger calibre.

My backup/little handgun is a Glock 36.

XD SubCompact 9mm

#1 reason - 14 rounds holstered (13+1), with a 16 round mag backup. So 30 rounds of 9mm +p easily concealed and quickly retrieved.

With that said, if I could shoot my 357mag snubby as good as my 9mm with the same placement and accuracy, then I would carry that one and not worry about only having 5rds. But alas, I just can't get those 357mags off quickly and accurately.

ccw

North American Arms guardian .32 acp. Its small and will fit in any pocket. ccw gun doesn't do any good if you can't carry it 100% of the time.

... Just state what gun you carry, and the NUMBER ONE reason why. Not a list. Not the pros and cons. Just name your gun and what's the number one reason in your mind for carrying the gun.

Like most people what I carry depends upon the plans for that day sometimes I'll gun-up if I feel the need. But I always have my S&W snubbie lightweight 442 with me. Because I've trained with and shot revolvers for over half my lifetime. It's comfortable, I can carry it pocket, iwb, mexican or in a belt pouch. I believe .38 spl, is capable of stopping most situations. Spare ammo is easily carried without too much bulk. I'm a firm believer of carrying at least one if not two reloads.

1) Kahr CW9. Concealibility, lightweight (19oz unloaded I believe), less than 1" thick, and reliability. This gun literally disappears and is barely noticeable even when carrying all day. The DA trigger is a butterly smooth long pull. 7+1 of 9mm hp should accomplish any intended purpose. Only downside is the front sight post is pinned, so no aftermarket night sights.

The Kahr CW9 is actually 15.8 ounces unloaded, and just under 21 ounces with a full magazine.

If someone is used to carrying what USED to be considered a 'compact' or 'concealed carry' sidearm as noted back in 1995 or even as late as 2004, for example, the Kahr CW9 would render many of those handguns so heavy and large by comparison that they would never be marketed as such today, IMO, and might even not be manufactured at all.

My new CW9 literally weighs half as much fully loaded as many so called 'compacts' of the 2002 era, and yields little to nothing in terms of capacity.

While there is no CCW in Illinois, here are the two I would carry:#1 a S&W model 60 no dash, it's always there and works!
#2 an S&W 5946, it works period!
