Taurus quality

Ace..fair point then since you unlike some actually have had some. Can I ask what models they were? Just curious if polys were involved...which is where my Taurus problems have lied.

The American made Taurus TCP seems to be pretty good. Fit, finish and trigger pull way outshine the Ruger LCP and KelTec P3AT. One of the guys I work with has purchased one and has experienced zero malfunctions after 200 rounds.

Taurus makes two styles of handguns, ones that are a very good value and will give you a life time of service, if not lots of pride in ownership or a piece of crap that may never be right no matter how many times it is sent to the warranty center.

I got lucky and got a good one, but I will not buy another or recommend one to a friend.

My personal story of my ownership of a pt945. The gun itself worked fine, and was a joy to shoot, when the magazines worked. Every few rounds id fire from the gun, the base plate would fall off and all the rounds come spilling out of the gun. Now this was going on 8 years ago so it may not be a problem now. I sold the gun becuase i could not get any new magazines anywere. I didnt have a computer then, nor did i know about online sights were you can purchase them.

Looking back, i miss that gun. When it worked it was awesome. Accurate and reliable. Out side the magazine issues, id have to say a lack of aftermarket acsessorys will be a pain. One day, if i get some extra scratch i may consider it again.

Most of the above cut and pasted from my other post on this very subject.

The first was a Taurus 85 Concealed Hammer stainless. Broke internally the first day I had it. I took it right back to the gun shop and they granted an exchange....

The second was the replacement 85CH from the gun store. It survived to about round 65-80 then broke internally to completely disable the gun. I sent it back to Taurus for repair. It seemed to work after that but I sold it. I don't even want to harp on the resale value you stuff, but I couldn't give the thing away. Not even the pro Tauri people would touch it. I got $175 for it after months of trying to sell it. It was like new with aftermarket and factory grips.

The last was a 3rd gen. PT145. Fell apart on the first trip to the range. It shot horribly before about round 60 (loose groups, malfunctions, shot about 10" low at 10 feet). The extractor is held in place by a small metal pin that is roughed up on the end that is pushed down from the top of the slide. The slight bit of roughness is supposed to keep it, and extractor, in place. What a joke and poor design flaw. The other side of the pin is internal on the bottom side of the slide. Essentially pressure pushed the pin upwards and out of the top of the slide. This caused the extractor spring to bounce off into space along with the extractor. Good thing I wasn't in a shooting situation because this completely disabled the gun. The pin would no longer hold the parts in place. I turned it into the gun shop owner that day and he was cool enough to take part trade for a real gun, CZ P-01!

I just want to say that pro Tauri guys love bashing me about my experience with Taurus. The fact is that I was pro Tauri back in the day. Who doesn't want to feel they got a quality weapon on the cheap. The fact is that these aren't like CZ back in the day, a secret gem found for cheap. These are just cheaply build weapons that probably spend more time in a chested drawer than they do at the range. And for the record, the PT-92 is the best model Taurus put out. After my experiences it has left such a bad taste for the company that I won't buy one. I bought a 92FS inox Beretta instead and I don't regret it a bit!

After my experience with Trashus, er Taurus, I will never own another one. I will tell you a secret, however. Taurus guns were built broken on purpose. You read that right! That way if a bad guy grabs it and tries to shoot it, you laugh at him when it jams or blows up on him while you pull out a real gun.

i want to know how many taurus bashers are willing to stand in front of a taurus when the trigger is pulled? my experience with 7 taurus handguns is they work and are accurate. i would advise anyone stupid enough to stand in front af a taurus is DON"T!

I got rid of mine because I felt it was unreliable as a self defense weapon. I wanted something I could trust my life to-and Taurus did not make the cut. Why bring a paperweight to a gunfight? As far as standing in front of a gun, that's plain silly. A better question is "Would you trust your life with this gun?"

You can't discredit an entire manufacturer unless you have personally shot every gun they've produced.

So, fellow members aren't allowed to have an opinion of Taurus but you can? Um, yeah. Sure.
With the exception of few occasions, members have stated at one time or another during their tenure here of their experience of Taurus. One doesn't have to own one in order to be ordained in forming an opinion and be granted access to post their findings.

I don't know of any reasonable person willing to stand of front of ANY firearm whether it's a Jennings or a Glock. Therefore, your statement to defend Taurus is utterly ridiculous.

When I saw that Shane had commented on this thread I assumed that it was being closed, and I figured, thank god.

Sad to see it continues unabated.

That said and for the record, I don't waste my valuable funds and time on Taurus.

true shane I see nothing wrong with opinions but to discredit an entire lineup is a little crazy IMO. But it's just that my opinion, others have some also, which I comepletely understand.

Swamp, your well with in your rights to spend your funds the way you see fit.
I'm sure there are plenty of guys out there that own a certain brand or model of handgun that some us wouldn't buy at half the price including me.

With signal/noise ratio as it sits and me not being the primary Staff of this forum, I thought best to refrain. Of course, if I did, I'd be receiving a PM or two griping I closed it too soon....

The way I look at my firearms is that I have a limited amount of money. We only live so many years, and I will have many other expenses in my life (house, car, insurance, etc.).

As such, I plan my expenses extremely carefully. Each significant purchase I make is meticulously researched and I do not tolerate second-rate products.

Would a Taurus probably work? Yes, probably. More likely than not. So would a generic brand television, a used Kia, and a stamped-metal pocket knife.

But I don't like to go through life with things that will probably work. I like higher-end. I like reliability. So I'm willing to wait 30% longer and spend 30% more.

It's hard sometimes, when what seems like a great deal is right in front of me, but I know that a year from purchase I'll be a hell of a lot happier with a Beretta or Sig, a Sony, a BMW, or a Benchmade.

my ridiculous response was directed towards a ridiculous statement. no sane person would stand in front of any gun hoping it would misfire. obviously the person that wrote the statement i responded to did not make a sane statement. my experience with taurus is that i would trust my life to the ones i own. i am also sure that if i came to your aid someday with my taurus and saved your life that you wouldn't be offended to still be alive because of a taurus.

After all the postings I've seen and after careful consideration, I decided I can't gamble my hard earned nickles and dimes. I think I'm going to go with a Glock 17 instead of a 24/7. I can get a good deal on one and it stands a good chance of never needing to be sent in for warranty work.

BrittB, I can honestly say that the entire Taurus discussion aside, that's a great decision. The Glock 17 is trusted worldwide by thousands of law enforcement officers in hundreds of agencies for a reason.

Depending on the size of your hands, you might also look at a Glock 19.

Very good decision.

No complaints with my TCP380. Yes I have to bump the slide to chamber the first round most of the time -- big deal. After that it fires flawlessly. I need a firm grip to have a tight pattern. But I can put the first round near a torso center at 10 yards with a draw and point (from about belly level) and I can put the second round within 4 inches with a quick aim over the sights. That folks is close enough for PD shooting. This is not a competition gun. It took some time getting used to the shallow sights. And I do not want to shoot more than about 50 consecutive rounds at the range because my trigger finger gets tender. Otherwise it is very reliable and at slow fire I can shoot a baseball sized pattern at 10 or 15 yards. It is light weight, small and conceals well. Thus it meets its mission well.

This is why I post the information, in hopes that somebody learns from my mistakes. Good to hear you are going to buy a quality firearm that will last you for many years with probable trouble free performance.
