Ive always thought that taurus firearms were junk, for no real reason except for how cheap they are to buy. Ive never owned or shot one. The way I look at it is if your going to buy a gun you need to be able to trust your life with it. So if someone could give me some real insight on taurus firearms.

Good luck with that......

Experience varies with them. It's possible to get a good Taurus and when you do, you'll see a lot of people swear by them.

Get a bad Taurus, and it's just about as likely as getting a good one, well, it's likely very bad. Their customer service is usually pretty poor too. Those that got a bad Taurus will generally tell you to stay far away from them. I'm one of those people.

I don't own a Taurus and likely never will. Two family members and a pal do own four Tauri between them and I've shot them all. Three of the four have problems. All three have been returned. They all came back a long time later with the problems unresolved. The 4th is a PT1911, and it works just like a good 1911 should.

So, my viewpoint is that Taurus is a crapshoot. If you get a good one, it'll serve well and you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, it'll likely always be bad and you'll hate it and yourself for buying it in the first place. Taurus makes some good ones, but their QC is apparently very poor. Lots of defective Tauri make it out the door and end up in customers' hands. Their customer service on defective guns is slow and ineffective in far too many cases. They're probably buried, is the reason why.

And that's what all the endless internet Taurus chatter is always focused on.

I had a bad one that I was able to fix myself and then I sold it. I've talked with a lot of people on both sides and if you get a good one they're great, if you get a bad one getting it fixed can be a real hassle. people get bad ones enough that I tell people to stay away. I've seen bad rugers and smiths but the difference is those two will actually fix their guns if there's a problem without much trouble and the odds of getting a bad one from them are less to begin with.

I have a PT-1911.Purchased used in December.I've shot about 500-600 rounds through it.All ammo brands and some defensive rounds too.It has never malfunctioned. Is very accurate. The finish is thin. The checkering on front strap
and trigger guard is alittle uneven. The frame/slide fit is excellant. The trigger is
light and crisp. It's not as nice appearing as a Wilson/Kimber/Ed Brown but I have shot them all and it shoots as good if not better than some. For the money
I'd buy it again 10 fold.It puts holes in paper the same.:)

Here we go again, regular as clockwork.

I've put thousands upon thousands through the 92/99 series; as good as anything out there and less money to boot.

Also had 2 M85's and a M94, no problems whatsoever.

Interesting read: read the thread on lemons and you'll see that Taurus is rarely mentioned. Quite a few internet darling brands showed up in that thread. hmmm?

Yay !

Lets get the Taurus owners all stirred up with a thread trolling for Taurus bashers...

I'm in...

I've never fired a Taurus but I have a friend who told me he had a Taurus revolver and the cylinder fell out.

Woo hooo ! I'm here to tell ya - Taurus sucks! :D

Well that answers that. I was kind hoping their revolvers were good. I want to get either a .44 mag or a 45 lc but didnt want to spend more than about $550 right now.

those that swear at them don't often own them.
those that swear by them own them.
you can believe owners or you can believe hearsay it;s up to you.
happy owner of the following taurus firearms
pt-1911, 45 cal stainless
pt-145, 45 cal blue
pt-92, 9mm stainless
pt-92, 9mm blue
pt-709 slim, 9mm blue
mod 44, blue 44 mag
mod 605, blue 357
rossi (made by taurus) 357
all work fine, never a problem, all are accurate.
sorry taurus haters but this is my actual experience as an actual owner.

Taurus pistol > Taurus revolvers.

Their revolvers evolved from the S&W revolver. Taurus engineers cheapened it. If selecting a revolver, I'll buy S&W first.

Owner of the following:

Judge
m85
m605
Also a Rossi

All have enough rds through them to have proven themselves worthy and I've not experienced any problems. Can't tell you about CS. Never had to use them. Nor do I have enough esperience with Taurus semi autos to comment.

The rev's. are not near the quality of my BFR,Smiths,Colts, Rugers or Berettas but I didn't buy them expecting any different.

Some very happy people on taurusarmed.net
At least they arn't ashamed to admit they have complaints with their guns. :D

I wouldn't "TRUST" one for my life, I would use it as a beater range gun.

Asking for peoples' opinions regarding Taurus is mere child's play. Now, if you really want to start something, ask them what they think of a Llama, then stand back at a safe distance. ;)

I'd second that one. Of the 4 revolvers I owned, 1 worked. It seems that my family and I have had more luck with the 686s and 44s. The one Taurus pistol I owned was a 1st gen millennium. That little pistol had an awful trigger, but it was reliable. The newer ones, from what I understand, are better. If I had to buy a revolver for a good price, I'd go for a ruger. I've owned just as many of them, and they have all been awesome. Smith has come down. From what I saw, you want a .45, if I'm not mistaken. I'd recommend a used Blackhawk. If you get lucky, like others said, you'll have one that will likely work forever. If you don't, you'll likely be taking it back the first day you shoot it. I never was brave enough to try the customer service.

Taurus makes two types of firearms, either good ones that are a great value for the money, or one that will never be right no matter how many trips it takes to the warranty center. I was VERY lucky and got a good one, but my one Taurus will be my only Taurus.

So you pays your money and takes your chances.

Former owner of multiple Taurus handguns.
I agree, you either get a great value or something thrown together by complete incompetents that will be broken OTB and may never, ever work right.
CS was a complete crapshoot.

Sadly, I love their concepts and wish them the best.
But every time I go to buy one, I handle one in the shop that is non-functional from the get-go and put my money back in the bank.

I think even the good ones I had probably had a catastrophic failure in their future, so I traded/sold them off. The materials just seemed cheap.
