Taurus Disappointment

I said I probably would not have noticed.

So you were saying hotshot?

I went to the range this morning and the RSO told me they had another Taurus blow up. It was a Judge and the first shot blew it apart. Brand new gun.

I have learned enough from this forum and my friend who has one, to stay away from them.

Geetarman, I see you are in Arizona. You wouldn't have happened to have been at Rio Salado this morning, were you?

Because if you were, and I suspect you were, the RO was talking about me. It happened yesterday.

Sorry, the pics would have substantiated the story in the first place. Just hard to believe that it would not have been noticed immediately. Was there any feeling of more recoil on the last shot?

There was so much recoil on each of those 410s that I did not notice a difference. I was just busy holding on. The last shot is what blew it apart. So immediately after the last shot, I oriented the revolver to release the ejector rod. This pointed the top strap away from me. The first thing I noticed was the bent ejector rod. My friend, who owns the gun, is the one that noticed the top strap.

Like I said, it is very fortunate that it happened on the last shot.

Were the 45 LC rounds jacketed, or lead. I notice significant leading with Cowboy Action lead bullets in my PD poly. Just wondering if a wad from the next to the last 410 round got stuck in the bore?

I did a small CCW class today and one of the students has a 24/7 in .40 caliber. He was an old ex-mil competition shooter and he would have shot well with a blow-pipe and marbles... but that darn thing impressed me. I liked the trigger, grip angle and the feel of it. It ran and shot real well for him.

Indeed I was there. Shooting a P229 and a P226 as well as a Buckmark and LR308.

The Colonel told me about it. I thought he said it was the first shot but from the posts above that appears to be not so.

I am glad you are ok.

I usually make it on Friday morning and get set up on 17. If you are ever there, don't be a stranger. I am usually out of there around 9-9:30.

A lady I shoot with has a Taurus .357 that has been to the factory once and is about due for another trip.

While some have reported really good experiences with them, the stories are outweighed by those who have really had problems.

I think I will stay away from them.

Sounds like a B.S. Taurus basher post!!! No credibility what so ever!

Cheapshooter,

You are flat out wrong on this.

ThisIsMySig,

Well played.

Hope to meet you at the range. I will always be there early and usually at table 17-18. I have a gate key so I go in early and am set up before 0700.

We were talking with him too. Great guy. He was the first RO on the scene after it happened.

Thanks for the good wishes. I get up there about 2 or 3 times a week. With all the snow birds (sun birds?) coming back, it's getting real crowded on the weekends.

I'll look for you. I'm the one with the dark green carry-on that I use for my stuff and a white/purple Igloo MiniMate I use for my ammo. I know, kind of a weird combo, but I used what I had on hand. :D

Poly Taurus anything is crap. I have owned 4 Tauri and two were crap and the other two are my favorite to shoot. A PT-99 and a M85. Both are flawless operators. I would buy either again. But never a poly auto or revolver. Their classic models are good. The new stuff stay away from.

I thought about a 5 shot 44 or 45 Taurus till I saw one heading back with a big chunk of the barrel gone between the ports.

Sorry but that is scary bad metallurgy to have failures like that.

There are some brands that I would only buy from a seller who offered a solid guarantee and no hassle return/exchange - Taurus fits in this category. I'd been considering the Judge as a snake gun, but watching a video that showed a guy having several misfires put that move on Hold.

Any manufacturer can turn out a bad example of product. Its how they treat the customer afterwards and how they resolve the issue that counts. Unfortunately, there seems to be too many of these recent accounts from people and their mis-adventures with their customer service. I don't want to spend the time, energy, & frustration on this if there is a problem.

P.S. - its too bad that they can't seem to get their act together consistently. Some of the shot patterns Ive seen with the Judge are excellent. The .410 is a miserable shot shell - particularly in the 3" shell - when it comes to shot patterns. But the Judge did quite well.
