Taurus Disappointment

I have a 1988 Taurus Model 66 in stainless steel. .357. Great revolver, a clone of S&W. Very accurate, too.
It seems that the older Taurus' were quality firearms...

I have guns over 20 years old that have never needed the gun smith's touch. If I pay $500 for a new gun[ which I just did] I expect it to work right out of box and be trouble free. And as for Judges and 1911's sitting on every gun stores counter, I remember in 1974 when I bought my first new car, the Chevrolet dealers were packed with Vegas. Chevrolet dealers are independent buisnessman. They own their own dearlerships, but they were stocking what was selling. Same as gun dealers. I bought a Chevelle. And no, my new gun is not a Taurus.

Tarus Disappointment

A word to the wise: About twenty years ago I asked the clerk at the gunshop what would be a quality firearm to buy?? He replied," Not a Tarus". I listened and now I read why.

A co-worker bought a Taurus Millenium Pro .40 cal on sale from Academy last year on Black Friday. He said he got a great deal, $199 on sale.

This gun has given him nothing but problems. Always FTF's. He has serious buyer's remorse. About to send it back again for more work.

Not brand bashing here, but this, and other Taurus horror stories will keep me far away from them.

Ok not to add to the bashing but I had bought a pro24/7 .45 that I was promised the world on from the store. NOt taraus but the sales person. Not the gun company fault I understand, however I took the gun on the range immediatly after purchase 3 shots in and the firing pin cap and the whole assy. came off and shot across my right shoulder. I took it out to the gun smith who said o yes that is not right but I have seen it quit a few times now. He took it saying he would order a new cap and spring set and have it back within a week, no problem however 2 weeks later I drove up to find out the status when he didnt have it ready within the first week. He called taraus with me standing there and they apologized said it was sent back for some reason they would over night it. Again no issue I thought, called him around 5 the next day to be told it never got there and they didnt ship it at all. This went on for about 3 months finally I got upset enough the gun shop gave me store credit and then after all this sold me a used gun as it being brand new. I have never been back to that shop and will not be going to taraus again either.

I promised myself I will no longer post on this site as the problem is SO obvious it's becoming repititious. As a victim of bad quality myself, plus the waste of money[I got half what I paid when I sold it] Taurus is going to give me an ulcer, so I'm just going to avoid this site to keep from reminding myself of a POOR DECISION based on ads and pricing. AND NOT DOING RESEARCH BEFORE HAND.

Taurus disappointment

Please you have learned your lesson. Before you buy anything check this site first. There is a lot of wisdom to be learned on this forum.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, but a few years ago I bought a brand new Taurus TCP 738 based on the glowing review I read in a gun magazine. I wished the writer had reviewed MY gun that I bought, it may have been a different story. :D

I'm just as skeptical as you older members when newbs show up on several of the same bashing posts over and over. Sorry to the OP if your problem was genuine. It's hard to tell without malfunction pics.:o:confused:

Have any of you guys ever considered publishing your own magazine that didn't accept advertising? You could call it: "Gunsumer Reports.":D

No, I rely on honest reports from reputable magazines that are supposed to be "UN BIASED" in their reporting. Not pet dogs for their advertisers Now I come to forums like this to get honest reports about firearms.

Seriously now......I truly believe that there is enough hands on practical experience threads of actual Taurus usage to formulate an opinion that it's a brand to stay away from.

If you do happen to get a good one...okay, good for you. But to try to throw blame on gun mag reviews when it's well known that their just shills for advertising dollars so how objective could they possibly be?

Paper bounder, you are correct. I suppose they have to make a living , too. Just go to forums like this for HONEST feed back.

Yessir....if your serious on doing gun research you pick up trends on this and other sites regarding particular gun makes and models. Doing a little weeding out of the fan boys and the haters and an accurate picture emerges.

i had a similar experience with my new judge, it locked up shooting 410 shells, and the accuracy shooting 45's was terrible. I have some good luck and some bad luck with taurus's

My friend and I took his brand new Judge to the range today. We shot 10 rounds of 45LC and 10 rounds of Remington 2 1/2" 410s. On the 10th 410, the top strap blew apart at the barrel bending the barrel downwards. This bent the ejector rod as well. The RO said he has seen this several times before.

It was very fortunate that this happened on the last round. I only noticed it because I had to reload. Had it happened on any other round, the gun would have still been at arms length and I probably would not have noticed it.

You would have not noticed the top strap blown apart, and the barrel bending down?

Sounds like a B.S. Taurus basher post!!! No credibility what so ever!

Not to say that there haven't been substantiated problems with Taurus. But no need to make them up! Especially something as unbelievable as a top strap blowing apart without being noticed.
