Something New: Springfield Armory XD Pistols??

Don't listen to all the plastic bashers. This is a really good pistol. I am going to stop short of great until time has proven that. I have two HS2000s and they are both very accurate and reliable. The XD is the same pistol. They are a bit more expensive, but IMO they are worth the extra, due to the fact that the HS's were underpriced to begin with.

NOT BASHING PLASTIC

Just not for me personally; gun doesn't 'balance' or 'feel' right in my hands.

Spent way too much on M20 trying to like it, but had to sell it because I just couldn't get the right 'feel'.

Not a problem FOR ME with metal guns, even BHP.

I've handled them and played with them, but never fired them! But, i want one!

I like the feel, the way it points...just strikes me as a nice pistol.

I have trouble with paying Springfield Armory $100 more for the privelege of getting a gun with their name on it. Seems like a huge price increase in terms of percentage.

It does seem like alot for just the Springfield stamp but probably some of that goes for Springfield standing behind this pistol for possibly warranty work. As the HS2000 is now, there is no warranty work or parts available if the need arises.

The price increase on the springfield xd is kind of similar to the deal with the cz75b military. For the longest time you could get the military version which is identical to the standard cz75b . But as a bonus the military version was at least $50 cheaper and came with a factory 15 round mag included where as the standard model only offers 10 round mags. You can still find the military versions but they are starting to dry up. Also as posted earlier HS pistols basicly have no warranty through HS arms. They have no new parts so with them you are out of luck. Springfield has said they will honor the lifetime warranty on hs pistols as long as the customer covers all the shipping costs which really is pretty good of springfield considering they are under no obligation to do so. The Gen.1 HS2000 is my duty gun, and has been a reliable and accurate pistol. Although I'm not crazy about the price increase under the Springfield banner, I would still buy one over a Glock, knowing what I know about each. For me, the HS is a better fit.

Let's get the facts straight.

The Croatians had import problems getting the HS2000s into the US and problems meeting high demand. Hey they priced the HS2000 in the $300 range and they are excellent 9mm compact guns for that price range.

But when Springfield bought the rights to badge the HS2000 as an XD, that was a bad idea.

Springfield makes 1911s. What you think you can make polymer semi-auto's now? Way out of their experience zone.

I have seen a half dozen XDs under the glass and only one of them sold in the past two months. Springfield should have kept the pricing the same at least for another 12 months and then re-introduce it as the XD with the new price tag.

Why pay extra money for an HS2000?

Sorry but with Springfield's pricing, it is not selling against Kahrs, Glocks, Rugers, CZ's and the like. There are a lot of goo dused gun like Sigs in that price range too.

Tell you what, I'll locate a gently used HS2000 for you and you can pay me $200 over what I paid for it.

Just buy a used HS2000 and realize that you missed it. Just like the $675 HKP7M8s a year ago. Now you can't find one. Got to pay $850 for a used one now.

It's all timing and having the cash.

But bump the XD, it is bombing at the gun shops!

I don't get it. The HS2000 was $289 or less everywhere I went. Now the XD is $429. Even if they offered it at $350 it would sell, but now it is selling for about the same as an established Glock 17. It is no wonder that they are superglued to the dealers shelves.

jtduncan, you seem to jump in to bash the xd/hs whenever there's a thread, without a lot of proof to back it up.

1st fact wrong: springfield isn't 'making' these pistols as you state, IM metals is. Springfield is the importer into the US. It is branded for them to sell.

2nd fact wrong: The price of the pistols is not comparable to glocks. Maybe you see a dealer pricing them high. Members of the hs2000talk.com forum have purchased them for about $409, with some seeing them $10 to $20 less. Show me where I can get a new glock for that price, and I'll buy it. Of course, I'll turn around and sell it for a profit, too.

3rd fact wrong, or maybe just ignorant of if: HS arms was supposed to up the price on the next batch of HS's. In other words, it would have been more expensive even if HS had retained the importation rights. HS apparently couldn't meet their quotas, so they lost the rights. Sprinfield got the new contract, and then signed on for a new price point.

The 'facts' are that HS didn't do that great a job getting the word out about the pistols. It got great reviews, but lousy marketing. Now springfield is getting into the game, and has their marketing expertise and budget behind it. They basically have to build it up from scratch, all over again. Apparently they're doing a full page ads in some magazines, so that's a start.

So the slower sales should be expected when starting up, unless you expect guns that very few people have heard of just start flying off the shelves all by themselves, which apparently glocks do, because we all know glocks just came out, have no advertising budget or word of mouth yet, and they don't have any track record in law enforcement sales.
