Smith and Wesson serial number search

Book shows SN prefixes BDZ to BEA running from May to August 1989.

I bought a 629-2 classic hunter back around 1988/89. It was unique for a S&W N frame back then with the full lug barrel and unflutted cylinder.

Jim

Thanks Jim! This one has the 8 3/8 full lug barrel, and it is HEAVY. It reminds me of a 686 with the underlug.

Can anyone help with dating a No. 1?

Hello! I've recently acquired a S&W No. 1, Second Issue and I'm hoping someone can 'date it' for me. The serial number is 5534X. Thank you in advance, jandyford

Thank You

Jim, Thank You for your timely reply. The lil No.1 will be a birthday present for my son. Looking over that range of numbers, I think it's safe to say it's a 'Civil War' pistol. ( pause to think ) What % of kids under 20 could provide details about the US Civil War ( especially those living west of the Mississippi )?
Thanks again!!
jandyford

Found a 24-3 3" Lew Horton, ALA5xxx. I think these were made in 84-85, and this one appears to be later in the serial range, so '85 would be my guess.

Thanks!

I need assistance once again on a handgun owned by Elvis Presley.
It is a Model 36 and has the numbers 6J31XX.

Can someone please assist me with the proper year it was manufactured and any
other information that I might be interested in knowing?

Thanks

Chris

I have a 38 special cheif serial number 6731xx . Can anyone tell me the age of this gun ?I'm trying to establish it's value . Any help would appreciated

Thanks laytonj1 . the serial number was lacking the j in it and another link someone posted suggested older than that . But I am by no means an expert . The condition is "good" . Has wear on the cylinder and barrel . Not too bad . Would it decrease the value anymore by having it reblued ?

Dating a S&W

I just picked up a Smith model 10-5. I am having trouble dating it. The serial reads D136575. Any help would be appreciated. Also, what reference is used to date these?

Per the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, model 36 serial numbers were 295000 in 1962 and 786544 in 1969.
Rebluing would reduce value.

S&W Highway Patrolman

Hello, first time poster here. I am looking at a S&W Highway Patrolman, Model 28-2, serial number V952543. It is blue with a 6" barrel & is in very good condition. I am interested in a value & manufacture date. Thanks!

Well, there is a problem with that serial number. V952543 does not exist. The “V” prefix was used during WWII and serial numbers did not reach that high. 28-2’s were made from 1962 to 1982 and would have a “N” or “S” prefix serial number. Take the serial number from the underside of the grip frame. You may have to remove the grips tp see it. As for value, that depends a lot on condition.

S&W .44 Magnum

A dear friend of ours just passed and his widow discovered what appears to be
a stainless S&W .44 Mag with an 8" barrel, in a box and we are trying to find out more details.

She sent me a photo and it is marked S for stainless and, on the crane, is the model # 629-1, which I believe makes it around 1979ish and just above that is the serial # AEAXXXX.

If anyone would be so kind as to enlighten us further and also give us an approx value, we would deeply appreciate it. I am, amongst other things, a semi-auto and a "Glock guy" but this is one nice firearm and, subject to SWMBO's approval, I am sorely tempted :D!

629-1’s ran from 1982 to 88. AEAxxxx dates it to 1984. 629 is the stainless version of the 29. Barrel is likely 8 3/8”. Value depends on condition. Figure $600 to $800 selling private party. Maybe more if you have the original box, manual, and tools.
