Smith and Wesson serial number search

thanks jim - appearance wise, it's in really nice shape - function wise, the trigger has a hitch in it just before it drops - it's smooth but gets heavy - it also doesn't have the org grips
thanks again ;)

Help I.D. model 10

Going through my Dad's old stuff I found a S&W Special ctg
# c 678xx. Can anyone bring up the info on this? What ammo will it use?

Looking for info on Model 28

Just picked up a Smith and Wesson Model 28, no dash, 6" barrel. Serial 1819**

Comments? Value? Age? Where can I get more info?

Thanks!

# c 678xx.
Serial numbers ran from C1 in 1948 to C223998 in 1951.
It would be chambered for .38 Special cartridges.

Model 28, no dash, 6" barrel. Serial 1819**
1958.
The serial number would have a "S" prefix on the underside of the grip butt.
Model 28's started out as the Highway Patrolman (pre 28) in 1954. Became the model 28 in 1957 and were in production until 1986.
Yours would be a 4 screw model. Three screws on the sideplate and a 4th on the front of the trigger guard.
They are the same as a model 27 but without the checkering and high polish finish.
For an early model 28 in excellent condition with minimal to no wear, value would be around the $650 range. More if it was a 4" barrel.

Thanks for the info. That puts the gun as the same age as me! :D
There is a bit of holster wear on end of barrel. And a small scratch on the wood butt by the serial number (yes, there is an "S"). She ain't perfect, but she sure is pretty!!! I am satisfied. :)

Thanks - Barb

I inherited a S&W K-22 a few years ago along with original box. A little rough with some rust and pitting. Still shoots very well and remains accurate. I am curious as to age and value. Grading would be about 80-85%. Serial number is K 2525xx.

Recently inherited

Just inherited an older shotgun from my brother. Never even knew he had the gun and am trying to date it to see if it could have possibly been my fathers.

Smith & Wesson Model 1000M Shotgun
S/N# FC20528

If anyone could help with dating the gun I would appreciate.

Chief Special 60-7

I have just acquired a S&W j frame 60. Serial number is BPW09XX. Any info on the date of this pristine 38 special?

Another of the same question

I have read through as much of this as I can and can stil not figure out the exact model and year of my S&W 32 long.

This revolver is a 6 shot with an overall length of 6". A barrel Length of 2". It is blued with Pearl Handles. The but is square. The sites are fixed with a rounded notch in the back. The serial number on the but is 577102. Te numbers on the chamber appear to be C (on top) and then 31671 and then a 5 underneath that. Can anyone help?

I got a smith that has me stumped. Looks like a .44Mag N frame but is in .357. SN is N381XX I looks like it has been redone and the model number is not able to be made out. Opinions?

Thanks

.38 M&P SN 349229 (model 10) I hope there's a way to get to a specific year
.38 Model 36 SN 166258 (square butt)
.38 K-37 Masterpiece SN K302574
38 M&P SN 349229 = early 1920's.
Model 36 SN 166258 = SN's ran from 125000 in 1957 to 295000 in 1962.
SN K302574 = 1957.

Post war Regulation Police. The serial number dates it to about 1950 which would concur with the introduction of the 2" barrel in 1949.

Model 60 .357 serial # DBE 0XXX
Post 2004 production. The SCSW only covers up to 2004.
S&W customer Service can give you the DOB over the phone for free.

Looks like a .44Mag N frame but is in .357. SN is N381XX
Around 1970/71.
It's likely a model 27. The model 28 would have "Highway Patrolman" stamped on the right side of the barrel. The top of the frame and barrel on model 27's were checkered. They and the earlier registered magnums were 357's built on 44 frames.
