Smith and Wesson serial number search

Model 28 Highway Patrolman

I inherited my late father's S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman, 4" barrel, and am interested in finding the date of mfg.
ETA: No dash.

The S/N is S202592

Thanks for your help.

S&W Model 67

TO: Dave Anderson: Many Thanks for the info!!!! Figured it was before 1980!!! Seems like it was around 1980 they quit doing the pinned in barrel, if I remember right!!! Does anyone have any idea what it might be worth??? It has only minor surface wear, is Stainless and has the original S&W wood grips, would classify it at a minimum of 85 to 90 percent!!!
Thanx and Happy shooting!!!

Another Model 36

My Model 36 no dash is serial number 286xxx. From what I've been able to find reading all the posts, this gun should be about a 1961 model. Can anyone verify this?
An aquaintance that won't tell me much about the gun wants to give me $400 for it in OKC. The gun is blue and VGC.
Deal or no deal??
Thanks for the help

My Model 36 no dash is serial number 286xxx
SN's started at 295000 in 1962 so 61 could be correct.
In VGC $400 sounds okay. If it was in minty condition (no finish wear) I would be looking for more.

Jim

I wouldn't call it minty. It's got some holster wear.

Looks better in person than it does with the crappy camera flash

In the top picture do y'all think that line inbetween the grips and the trigger guard is from a holster strap? It's a perfectly straight line. I'll try to get a better pic of it.

Terrier DOB

745xx is SN on butt, late I frame with ramp front sight, caliber .38 S&W (NOT 38 Spl); 4 screw; 2" (or 1 7/8") bbl.
DOB would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

old smithy military .38 special

The serial number is 8828X. only five numbers. Double action revolver in .38 special cal. It has "US ServiceCTG'S" on the barrel.

Does anyone have any information about this gun? Date of manufacture?

older S&W

I have an older S&W 5 shot revolver, S/N 55XXX and am interested in finding any info on it, like model and type (New to forum, don't know exactly what I'm doing) All S/N's match on various places on gun and grip. It has original holster marked S&W. I am trying to attach a picture. It looks like it has had the old finish removed. Barrel and action is very good. Thanks in advance

38 Military & Police Model of 1905, 1st Change.Serial numbers ran from 73251 in 1906 to 146899 in 1909.

S&W 5 shot revolver, S/N 55XXX
I'm assuming it's chambered in 38 Special?
If so, it's a Chiefs Special made in 1955.
If the chambering stamped on the side of the barrel is something different (like 38 S&W) then I'll need that info to correctly date it.

I just joined the forum and am glad to be here. I'm looking forward to participating in many threads.

I have a S.& W. 38 SPL. The serial number is 317XX (last two numbers omitted).

The pistol has been with the family for some time and I was wondering about when it was manufactured. Thanks in advance.

right side of barrel stamped 38 S&W CTG
Then it's either a .38 Regulation Police (Square Butt) or .38/32 Terrier (round butt). For either one the SN would date to very late 40's to early 50's.

See pic for serial number location and is it a 5 shot or 6?
