Smith and Wesson serial number search

Need help with date.

Can someone tell me the date of the S&W revolver I inherited? I think it is a pre-model 36. Serial # 38xxx.

Model 1905 S&W

Need an approx. shipment date for a S&W Model 1905 .38 special, 4th change serial #522xxx

Some pics are below, any idea as to approx. value? Any other details on this gun?

I have a K-22 SN K129XX top and a K-38 SN K260XX bottom purchased by my dad new for $65.00 each in 1948. Both guns are five screw models with the single line "MADE IN U.S.A." stamped on the right side of the frame. I believe they are both of post war manufacture either 1947 or 1948. Can anyone provide the exact year of manufacture? Thanks.

442-2 No Lock

Great thread and very imformative.
I didn't go through all 107 pages of this thread, but I do have a question on the approximate date of manufacture of a S&W 442-2 No-Lock that I just purchased new from a dealer who told me it was a new production piece. But, while looking through the various forums on the web I now wonder about it's actual age. The S/N is CNL4XXX. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

The SCSW only covers serial numbers up to 2004. Yours was made after that.
You can call S&W's customer service and they will give you the DOB over the phone for free.

Serial numbers ran from M30001 in 1971 to M60000 in 1973.

Sorry, but the SCSW does not list serial numbers for S&W long guns.
You might try S&W customer service at:

Thanks for the help Jim; S&W was very helpful and quick with an answer. It appears that I was given accurate info from the dealer and I now have a 2010 model 442.....it's a newborn baby Smith!
