Sig P365: Glock 43 Killer?

The "capacity for its size" metric certainly has my attention, but the SIG of my several 1990s-vintage P22x models is not the SIG of today. I'll wait until reports of 500 flawless rounds become the norm before I consider letting the P365 unseat either my G43 or PPS M2.

I will say yes it is a g43 killer. Looks like it also killed the p239 and the p290 right out of the gate. It will probably take down the shield as well. This thing may conquer the world.

Anybody even seen one yet?:D

Sometimes pistols that have very similar LWH dimension on paper are surprisingly different viewed side by side, or held, or worn iwb or in a pocket. Sometimes, in a small pistol a 1/8 or 1/4 inch difference makes a very significant difference in actual carry. Just sayin’...the thin single stack may have more life than it might appear. Time will tell. Time will also tell how long magazine springs hold up to the maximum number of cartridges fitted into the minimum space. It sounds like a very interesting Pistol, when we actually see one.

My LGS (a big Sig dealer, lots of dedicated cases and branding) just announced they have one to rent and one to 'handle' in stock.

Does anyone actually know when the P365 will be available to see and possibly purchase?

I believe Sig announced that the first shipments went out this week.

My first thought was:" Oh boy! Another 'revolutionary' striker gun." But the more I look at it, the more it piques my interest.

Edit to add: you can buy it now on Gunbroker for $799!:D

Strangely, one dealer has two on auction. Both seem to have received 11 bids driving the price above $800.

There are a few auctions that look like legitimate bids. People are stupid. There's not going to be any shortage of these.

I ordered one from one of the big name shops on the Internet. My FFL is standing by.

I'll be comparing this to my faithful Kahr P9. I believe the P365 falls somewhere between the P9 and PM9 in size; closer to the former, which suits me just fine. It's 1" thick where my Kahr is .9", so for 3 more rounds that is well worth it.

Being a SIG fan and owning other SIG's, it's a no brainer to sell my (one and only) Kahr in favor of it. I can't wait!

Gun Broker is an auction site, and is given to price fluctuations based on temporary psychological conditions (e.g. “I gotta be the first to have it!”). Sometimes one can get great deals for the same reason though.

new Sig P365

In general, the people who like Glocks will still choose a G26 or G27 or G42 or G43 for a really small concealment gun.

People who like the Smith & Wesson M&P pistols will select the Shield.

Those carrying a Sig P320 will be interested in the P365.

For other users, it depends on personal preference and what fits in your hand better.

Unless SIG dramatically lowers the price there's no way it will even come close to threatening the shield. Easy to find sub 300usd, mag specials at 15usd each and holsters everywhere?

S&W could pull a magguts and release "optimized" magazines that boost the capacity to 9 & 10 rds instead of 7 & 8 rds if they wanted.

Add to the cost of a Shield the cost of a better trigger and night sights and then consider your personal needs. If you want to pocket carry, and I don't know that either the Shield or the P365 is optimal for pocket carry, the reduced size with added capacity of the P365 may be worth a couple hundred to you. That and I want to get reports on shootability from some besides the professionals, but it sounds like the Sig is a far better shooter for most.

I am not saying that the Shield is not a fine gun, for what it offers. I like that it can be had with or without a thumb safety. One thing you can't get with it is any kind of rail. Many complain that the SIG rail is proprietary, but at least it has a rail.

Then you have the ability to change the grip. It isn't clear to me just what kind of grips will ultimately be offered.

As for Shield adding a higher capacity magazine, the Sig already has a 12 round mag available. That is 13 rounds.

I don't know if I would want to shoot it out of such a small gun as either the 365 or the Shield, but is the Shield rated for +P?

The rail confuses me in its inclusion. Start adding anything to the rail and it clearly becomes not a pocket gun. It’s main asset (capacity) than becomes a liability compared to other guns. Is it interesting? Sure. I like the capacity if it is a pocketable pistol. Am I rushing out to buy one? Nope. Can we, based on Sigs reputation, conclude it is superior to other offerings? Not this decade
