Should I buy the 9mm or .40?

I'll most likely be purchasing an EAA Witness this week, and both are about the same price. Preference for anyone?

You would be able to afford to shoot the 9mm more. EAA offers conversion kits too, so perhaps you could go .40 S&W in the future on the same frame.

If you are giving me say in spending your money, I say pointless to choose.
Get BOTH Christmas is just around the corner. Besides they will send another light bill next month.

I'm just saying. :D

Given that 9mm and .40 have been shown to be equally effective in stopping threats, the 9mm holds several advantages over the .40 in capacity, and less recoil equating to flatter shooting and quicker followup shots.

There's an equation for this question:

ROTG* x RNOTG** @ 9mm = true. > ROTG* x RNOTG** @ .40 = false.

*Rounds On The Ground
** Rounds Not On The Ground

Pick one.

9mm is the answer.

Yep. We're not in the 1990s anymore. With today's bullet technology and the present-day performance of 9mm versus .40 in real-world shootings, I'm not really sure what the point of the .40 cartridge is these days.

Nothing wrong with the .40 but it is a little bit snappier, a bit more expensive to shoot and you typically lose a round in capacity. Both .40 and 9mm ammo are available everywhere around my neck of the woods. As far as stopping power, I don't know, that debate can go on and on. I have a full size M&P .40 but my choice shooters are my 9mm and .45acp.

I prefer 9 mm for economy of practice rounds and better accuracy and speed with followup shots. A bit extra capacity is a bonus.

But if you have a safe full of 9 mm pistols and want a change, or if you have fired the .40 and like it, or if for any reason or no reason you want the .40 more, there is nothing inherently wrong with choosing a .40. It is your money.

If you already own a 9mm I would go with the .40.
Otherwise get the 9--cheaper ammo, faster cycling rate, faster volume of fire, less recoil and less wear and tear on the pistol.
As others have pointed out, ammo has improved the stopping power of the 9mm.
I'd go with Speer Gold Dot or Critical Defense carry ammo.
