RWS 9mm 124gr showing up @ wal-marts

My local one only has RWS in stock. They had WWB last week but have sold it all now. However, one a couple towns over that I often travel too had both this and the Federal 9mm. Is this really worth the extra $7 per 50?

Bought some today for... I think it was $16.87 for 50, now it's just a matter of seeing how it works

Me too. I wanted to try some, just to see what it is. My Walmart had a case of this RWS around $17 and a also whole bunch of Remington UMC priced at almost $30 a box! I've been buying the Federal whenever I see some, but that amounts to about four boxes in the last 6 months.

Tons of 9mm at my wallyworld. WWB and the RWS. The pd's round here all have 40 cals so all the people that own handguns in my area think thats the magic bullet. Leaves me plenty of less expensive ammo for my puny little G26 that probably couldnt kill a rabbit.

Could they have been a box of UMC JHP's? I have seen a few boxes of UMC that have been higher priced. Upon closer inspection, I found that they were JHP's. It is not printed very boldly on the packaging.

And for the life of me folks state it does not pay to reload 9mm. I guess the 4600 rounds of 9mm reloads I have at $5.00 per box of 50 didn't pay?

I just wish the RWS was HP and not ball ammo, I just cringe paying that much for ball ammo. Maybe I'll buy a box and see how it shoots, but I cannot see buying a large quantity when most of my guns shoot the brass blazer and most federal ball ammo so accurately. The worse stuff I've used lately has been Remington 115gr ball, not very accurate in any of my 9mm guns, and dirty. I can remember when buying Remington ammo was almost a guarantee of quality, perhaps the high end Remington still is.

If you are shooting finely crafted arms like High Powers and Lugers and SIG210s, the RWS ball is just the ticket.

It may in fact be too expensive, and too high quality for the JAPG shooters

Yea Wildalaska I agree. And if I had a SIG P210, that ammo would be the ammo (Swiss on Swiss.)

I figure if I could affort the 210, I could afford the ammo!

I just stopped by WM hoping to pick up a few boxes, and they had no 9mm at all. Somebody needs to tell Indiana the ammo shortage is over.:(

My Walmart Has the RWS 9mm Lugar ammo...Just about the only handgun ammo they did have. I bought two boxes, can't wait to give it a try. I have a feeling my Browning HiPower is going to like it.

I have found expensive ammo doesn't equal accuracy, I've had 2 of the exact same model gun, and one would shoot great with a brand of ammo and the other mediocre. Guns of the same caliber and model may very well favor different ammunition. I have seen some ammo that is just plain garbage, usually Chinese, South American, or some Eastern Block.

I have had the best luck with Federal as far as ball ammo, when a gun can shoot a ragged hole at 25 yards from a bench for $9.99 a box for 9mm ball I can't see an advantage in paying $16.99, even if it is Swiss made.
Besides I would rather support American made if its within reason as far as price verses quality. I don't doubt the RWS is good, but most ammo will out shoot the gun and shooter.

"Buy American" is a great ideal. Unfortunately, most US 9mm is not loaded to the full potential of the round. When US 9mm is loaded to full potential, it is called +P+, and they make you pay through the nose for it. European 9mm is often loaded to higher velocity.

I was at my local WalMart yesterday. They had 145 boxes of the stuff (I can do math) and no other 9mm. They also had a fair bit of .38, .22, and a ton of .40. I picked up one box of the RWS, we'll see how it does.

I was surprised when I saw what must have been over 100 boxes of the RWS at Walmart yesterday, especially since they has be NO 9mm there at all the previous 4 visits or so. They still did not have any WWB or Federal in 9mm. The only other handgun ammo they had were 2 boxes of 250 rounds of .40, but I don't have that caliber. The RWS was $17 for a box of 50, so the same as everywhere else in the country I guess. There was a tag on the shelf for WWB for about $11, but none there.
