Rudy Guiliani ahead in Republican nomination race

The latest polls from just about everyone (CNN, Gallup and so on) show Rudy Guiliani ahead by over 10 points against McCain and every other in the running well behind in the single digits.

Am I the only one to find this rather scary? He is after all the most antigun nominee for both parties running and makes Clinton look like she's Charlston Heston when it comes to gunrights.

Scary proposal when it comes to the presidential election.

Being from the West Coast I'm not that aware of any great things Guiliani has done other than some great photo-op shots during 9/11. Can somebody give me some plus's for him other than he's a Republican and doesn't support any part of the current administration?

As Lewis Black said, It's basicly like voting for two bowls of sh*t. They try to find a canidate that everyone likes and they end up with a canidate that nobody likes.

I was listening to Hanity, and Dick Morris said that this may be what Nader needed to be a serious candidate this time around. He was saying in the past he may have garnered three percent of the vote. Facing a vote between Rudy and Hillary, I'll vote Nader.

Whine complain all ya want, vote for third parties over silly principles or just stay home, but in an election with XXXXXanyone (R) vs XXXXanyone (D), if ya dont vote the R you are just handing your precious guns away.

Better the enemy I give $$ to who may listen to me vs the enemy that just hates my guts.

I voted for Nader in 2000 because I was in Illinois at the time. The state was going to go for Gore in a landslide so I figured I would try to get Ralph the percentage he needed for federal funding in the next election.

If it's Rudy v. Hillary this time around I don't know what else I could do but vote for Nader again...

It's still early, though. Early poll results like this have been shown to be almost totally meaningless in previous elections. If anything, having an early lead could doom Guiliani if this election cycle is anything like the average one. It's entirely possible he could end up like Gary Hart or the multitude of other early-leading flops.

Who's got the dirt on Guiliani? The dirt has to be there so someone just has to start digging.

I like what Lewis Black said.

He, worked with the NY City Police.
She, used FBI Files to remove members of the other party.

He, greatly lowered the amount of drugs on the streets of NY.
She, rules as first lady... while the US kids used even more drugs (Dare)!

He visited fellons, condeming them in jail - to their face.
She, visited her brother in Prison.

He, ran against his opponents - through out the entire election.
She, went to her best opponent's funerals - before the Senate Election!

He, will get 3 out of 6 male voters... votes.
She, will get 5 out 6 votes - from the American Gals.

She is hoping, that you will vote for Nader or Perot.

As a MA resident, don't think that Romney is pro-gun, even though he just joined the NRA. Romney has flip-flopped more than Kerry and will say anything to get elected. He did no favors to gun owners in MA while he was governor and is not to be trusted as pro-gun.

Thank you Danzig! Dr. Paul is the best defender of freedom in Washington these days. I urge more of you to look into him, you won't be disappointed.

You have my deepest sympathies. I am a Massachusetts native. I was born in Pittsfield and spent most of my life in the Berkshires. It saddens me that the birthplace of American independence has become a socialist haven.

No, but one of the "pluses" you listed above is actually false. He's very, *very* supportive of the current administration.

My advice: get involved early and work on behalf of a candidate worth voting for.

deadin,
Having lived in NY when he was mayor, let me tell you the guy was phenominal!
His crackdown on quality of life crimes(public urination, turnstile jumping, panhandling, etc) had a huge effect on life in the city.
The "Wild Wild West" atmosphere that pervaded NY during the previous administration disappeared.
You could actually walk into Penn station w/o having to navigate through a sea of derelics and body waste!
He also voted across party lines and endorsed a Democrat for governor because he felt Cuomo was the better candidate.
After 9/11, he rejected a multi thousand dollar check from a Saudi prince or something on the grounds that the Saudis were not doing enough to fight terrorism.
He also refused to shake the hand of Yassir Arrafat at a formal function because of Arrafat's history of terrorism.
Hillary Clinton had no problem shaking hands and hugging both of them!
While a prosecutor, he was instrumental in cleaning up several industries that were rife with mob control ie; The Fulton St. Fish Market, San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy, the Garment District and private sanitation to name a few.
At this moment, I don't know his stand on guns.
I carried concealed regardless.
Especially when driving the cab at night!
But he's a straight up guy and doesn't follow the pack.
He's not afraid to go it alone for what he believes is right.
Guns aside, I think he's great!

DasBoot,
Sounds like my kind of guy except, if the posts on his stand on gun rights are correct and he wants to turn the rest of the country into a NYC, I'm afraid he is pretty much a non-candidate in my opinion.

Be that as it may, if it's between him and Hillary, I can live with his views on gun control.
And voting third party is a total waste of a vote at this point.
So you've made a point.....big deal!
All you've REALLY done is made our real opponent one vote closer to winning.

And voting third party is a total waste of a vote at this point.
So be it I personally can no longer vote for the lessor of two evils, it's a third
party or not vote if it should come down to the two choices given here.

I'm voting with Wingman.
The only person I've heard speak that I would like to vote for is the Gov of Montana Brian Schweitzer
He's not running but I wish he or someone like him was.

In principle, I fully agree.
But what do you actually gain by voting for someone that doesn't have the remoteset chance of winning?
I'd vote 3rd party too if the candidate was so phenominal that he/she just MIGHT win.
Unfortunately, with something as serious as voting, I'd much rather help the candidate I don't like rather than help the candidate I hate.
