You're probably better off backing Giuliani; somebody who will tell you the handbasket is really headed for Atlanta.

I intend on voting for a REPUBLICAN, not a Libertarian dressed up as a Republican. There's more to this election than tax cuts and isolationism.

BTW, I don't know where in Nam any of you were, but I know we were not defeated. The arvn may have been, but we were not.

Sorry Danzig. The majority of those voting, voted for Bush. First time and the second time. Get over it already.

Not only did he win the majority vote (both times) but. more importantly, he won the electoral college!

Okay, maybe I'm confused...I don't remember Bush winning a majority of the popular vote in 2000. Every count I've ever seen has Gore pulling in at least half a million more votes, and neither of them pulling in a majority.

Is there some vast conspiracy that has succeeded in fooling me?

I mean, I'm looking at both CNN and wikipedia, as well as my own memory from 2000.

Popular vote does not mean squat, except in a democracy. It is the Electoral College that matters.

Agreed. Which is why you didn't see me question the legitimacy of his presidency or any such nonsense there. My point is that Antipitas's posts seemed to be suggesting that Bush did win the popular vote in 2000...which, relevant or not, is still pure fiction.

Also, the popular vote does mean squat if you're talking about reforming/abolishing the Electoral College...but that's another thread and another time.

I have no idea what you consider to be a "REPUBLICAN". Please point out which one of the guys on that stage comes closer to your definition.

I'd be happy to debate this point in another thread.

In the interests of fairness, I was wrong about the popular vote in the 2000 election. Bush lost the popular vote by 543,895, but won the Electoral College vote 271 to 266.

Antipitas,
I think we all noticed the error, but you're a good guy for pointing it out.

I'm afraid that the original point of the disagreement between you and Danzig may well have been forgotten by now. Something about a government we didn't want being forced upon us by a vocal minority...

For the record, I agree with him on that sentiment and will take it even further: every government we get is forced upon us by a vocal minority. The lesson I take from that is pretty simple: If you want a change in government, it pays to be vocal.
While it's admittedly early in the cycle it seems apparent to me that there are no "conservatives" running this year. We've got 9 authoritarians and 1 libertarian. I have already made my decision about which one I want in the WH, and he can't make it unless everybody who agrees is as "vocal" as possible.
