If i had to chose only one it would be hard. I love both my revolvers and my semis. I voted for a semi for concealability and capacity. However, in the bush i would want my 629.

In a perfect world we would all carry revolvers. They seem to have more "soul" than any semi-auto ever made. I can usually shoot a new to me revolver better than a new to me pistol. However, on this sorry old planet there are times when you need more than six shots. Bad guys travel in packs and for that reason I carry and practice with my Glocks. If we still lived in a civil society I would definitely switch to wheel guns.

I have 1 wheel gun and 7 semi's. I guess that answers that.

I used to own a slew of wheel guns but when I went semi auto I could not go back. Something about the extra ammo and the semi auto trigger pull compared to the double action or having to pull back the hammer.

The wheel I have now is hammerless and is very small. I do have a Kel tec .380 which is smaller than the Wheel gun and my last wheel gun may get sold.

I ran across this poll and didn't look at the results until after I voted, and it tied them up at 41 each. I voted Semi-auto only because that's what I use most. I have Revolvers and like them. I can see why it is running close to equal, because they are about equal fun to shoot.

Both. Like the capacity and speed of reload of the semi-auto. Also like the style and reliability of an old S&W revolver. If I could only have one gun, it would be a revolver, so that is how I voted.

Both for me.
As far as what I carry. Semiauto for 97%of the time. The other 3% of the time it will be either a .41 mag Black Hawk, or a .357 4inch model 19 S&W while I am in the woods in East Texas. (I have been treed by ferral hogs on more than one occasion.) I shoot the crap out of both all the time at the range.

I have both and enjoy the relative strong points of both. I answered the question by asking myself which style I would keep if I had to completely forego the other. I would keep the revolvers. Their versatility is unmatched by semi's

I voted for semi auto just to even out the results.

For targets I love shooting every type of gun in every type of caliber.

For defense, I am comfortable with both revolvers and semis.

i have both revolvers in .357 and .44 semi autos in 9mm and .45.
i love them all carry both, but have a tendency to lean toward the revolvers.
primarily because they are the ones that i seem to have the best accuracy with at the range. i have researched and read many pro and con articles why one type of firearm is preferred over the other as a primary carry weapon, ( failure to fire potential, magazine capacity, polymer frame weight, caliber efficiency.......). But i've come to the conclusion ( for myself anyway, which i think is all you can do) that carrying a weapon that i can use most accurately to defend myself with ( shot placement and accuracy, without the potential of collateral damage in an already stressful situation) is the best choice for me. i honestly think what you carry is your choice, and in the circumstances that you might actually need to use your choice to protect the ones you love. You better be darn sure that you will get the job done with the least chance of error.

I carry a 1911, .45ACP, it's kinda like my third hand so to speak.

The worst I would ever expect from it would be a jam/misfeed/stove pipe and a couple of quick hand maneuvers and I "should" be back in business.

With a revolver, . . . if it is anything but bad ammo, . . . you are in deep doo doo, . . . and need at least a beginner type gunsmith and a tackle box full of tools.

I know the majority opinion probably favors the revolver for being less problematic, . . . but it is kinda like airplane crashes (revolvers) and fender benders (semi-autos), . . . the plane doesn't crash as often as the fender bender, . . . but very few live to tell it.

My vote is for the semi auto.

May God bless,
Dwight

There is NOTHING as classy as a 5 1/2" barrel Colt single action revolver in .45 Colt (well maybe a 7 1/2"). That being said, I voted for autos. It's what I carry, what I practice with, what I depend on. Whether a 1911 in .45 or HK 45c or XD 45 compact or the Ruger LCP, the semi auto wins the day.

semi-auto but

sometimes, after shooting the semi for awhile, it is a lot fun to pull out the revolver and shoot it. There is something kind of historic, kind of majestic about a 6 shooter. There is a sense of nolstalgia you get with with a revolver that you feel even if you are new shooter. If I had to choose one over the other I would say gimme the automatic but I sure would hate to be in that position for real.

I voted semi, but I know that the wheel guns are more simplistic and there fore are more reliable. I own only one revolver. It's a Judge Ultra-Lite and I love it. Then again I love all of my guns (except maybe the Hi-Point c-9 that my brother gave me years ago).
