I've got a couple of semis that I love (1911 of course, CZ 75B SA) but I'm a through and through revolver guy. There's just something about a good double action revolver pull, once you've mastered the technique, that cannot be replicated with a semi. I shoot revolvers more consistently than I shoot semis. I also like the wider range of calibers and loadings that one can shoot with a revolver.

I voted semi-auto ...

I really like a well tuned 1911 --- in all calibers --- 9mm, .40S&W and .45acp of course.

But I own several and really like the old S&W revolvers too ( in .22, .357mag and .44 mag ) .... the model 19's, 27's, 28's, 29's -- 66's, 686's, 629's ...

I probably have an attention deficit problem ...but on Wed, I went to the range and shot a few boxes thru one of my 5" 1911's in 9mm ... last nite I went to the range and had a K frame S&W mod 66 4" in .357 mag / and a Sig X-Five in .40 ...and had a great time both nites......

Depends on my mood.....

I shoot a lot of semi auto.

I shoot a lot of revolver.

My favorite flavor of either is .45 ACP.

I voted revolver. They're simple, almost always have great triggers, more versatile (lets see a 9mm cycle .380:D), they are being chambered in more powerful cartridges (exclude the ".454 Raging Glock":p), and they are just plain pretty:). I own semis and revolvers, but I carry a revolver and hunt with a revolver.

Revolver

The revolver has a combination of shapes I find eye pleasing. Like a well proportioned woman, there are curves everywhere that enchant the eye. The simple mechanics of the revolver, superior accuracy and superior power available in the revolver makes it my first choice.

Sure, I own some semi-auto pistols too. Several 1911's, some 9mm's, even one of those dreaded Glocks. Pistols are utilitarian - flat, drab, square looking. Wheelguns have panache. :D

I appreciate smooth, precision machinery.

Everything is smooth, everything is low effort, and everything is precision with operating a revolver. It's a very simple, elegant machine.

With a semiauto, you have to wrestle the stupid rounds into the magazine - I hate that, and magazine loaders are a crude workaround, not a solution. Then you have the slide slamming back with each round, don't care for that either.

I liked semiautos, only until I discovered revolvers :D

"The simple mechanics of the revolver, superior accuracy, and superior power available in the revolver [make] it my first choice."

Yep. For me, too--mechanics and looks. Though my most accurate handgun is probably my Smith Model 41, the K-22 and K-38 are real close, and I just admire a revolver's upfront design and no-nonsense precision.

Nicely put, Bellevance.

I like autos (particularly 1911s, HiPowers, CZ-75 & 82/83) and revolvers, but I prefer revolvers for a few reasons. Primarily because they just feel better in my hands, and as a result I shoot them better. Also, there is something to be said for a platform that can be fired from odd angles with a less than perfect grip and still maintain reliability.

Revolvers. Going further .... Single Action revolvers. Only DA I have is a Bulldog .44Spec.... but that is 'only' because I wanted a small big bore CC weapon..... Why revolvers? Because I am not military or LE. My needs are self defence at home and in the woods. The Single Action works well for me and others for many many years :) . If 5/6 rounds doesn't get the job done .... Not into spray and pray.... shot placement....

I'm assuming you're talking about which do we prefer for CC? (If for range shooting, it's easy for me - semi auto)

I'm pretty much as semi auto enthusiast, and revolvers don't do much for me, BUT my preferred carry gun is a revolver.

Reason: Reilability.

As with anything mechanical, the semi auto or revolver can malfunction. But from a life time worth of shooting experience (what else can I base it on?), I know the odds are that when the malfunction happens, it's much more likely to be with the semi-auto than the revolver.

But I actually fit into the "both" category. When the objective side of my brain is winning out, it's the revolver (which is most of the time). But when the subjective-enthusiast side of the brain is in charge, I do have a few favorite semi autos I like to carry too.

Wheel vs Auto

I voted for the revolver.

While I do own both types, wheel guns have always attracted my attention first. I know some will say an auto is better looking; even sexier if we must!!

However, a well made reliable revolver is something that I believe should be among your inventory of handguns when sharing with others out on a shooting day at the range.

revolver because of the reliability, just pull the trigger and it goes boom. No safetys to worry about, no FTF or FTE, dont have to worry about racking the slide or messing with magazines.

I like the older S&W revolvers. To me they just represent a different & better time in American history. The fit, finish, the way they feel in the hand. You'd have to put a heapin' load of $$$ into most modern handguns to get a SA trigger like a 40YO Smith wheelgun. And they go bang pretty much EVERY time.

I also like semis for the efficient machines they are. Generally a lot simpler to learn to shoot well. Dunno about capacity. My .45 bottom feeder only holds 7+1 & that should gitter done, IMO.

I think it's already been mentioned but I also think everybody should own a .357 wheelgun & a 1911 type in .45ACP.

And one more thing... they should be made of METAL!:D
