Redding sets of shell holders

243winxb, you did good, you made no contribution, no one can accuse me of siding, I have been invited to those ugly clubs and then (there is always 'and then') once they realized my character would not allow me to agree for the sake of agreeing, the invitation has always been with drown.

So now we know who the attention whores are. :) Those who contribute nothing and complain about the direction of a thread.

Wendyj I use the competition she'll holder set for my Rem.700 308. Its my one an only bench rest rifle, I try to shoot it every Sunday as long as the temperature is above 50. Give them a try, you can always return them. They work great for me , I F/L size with .001 I'm afraid to say case headspace.

I'm afraid to say case headspace.

When referring to cases or cartridges, we could call it "not headspace", so as not to offend anyone's sensibilities. So, now I have a Larry Willis Not Headspace Gage.

I'm touched....

I can not think of anything that would make a reloader/gun owner/licensed concealed carry type look sillier than brag about placing members on their ignore list. Rational? Because? They do not agree? I did place one member on my ignore list because , in my opinion, his behavior appeared to be more like stalking than someone that was fair and objective.

I have had to deal with events that some would describe as horror stories. I have managed to deal with each and every one of those events. I was in Houston when I walked into an episode of CRIMINAL MINDS. I know, call 911, get a restraining order, hire a lawyer, anyhow the lady said "GET ME HOUT OF HERE: PLEASE!" (and then the 'and them' moment), I said ok. It was about that time the ship hit the sand. I know; call 911, tell her to get a restraining order, call a lawyer etc., etc.,. Long story.

243winxb is out of line, I have learned somthing from everyone listed. To remove them from your list would be your mistake. Reading the duals are amusing even though they went off the subject.

…I only wanted to know if the Redding she'll holders were worth the money for what I wanted them for. Setting my shoulders back on different brass with ought moving dies on different brass head stamps. More confused now than before…

No. They won't work that way because changing the case headstamp doesn't affect how far the press ram raises the shell holder deck before contact with the die mouth occurs. When you use the Redding shell holders, the taller holders will make that contact occur earlier. If you don't want to over stress the press frame, you will need to adjust the die outward by about 10° of counterclockwise (looking down) rotation for each taller shell holder step (0.002"). In other words, you still need to adjust the die so the crack of light between the sizing die and the shell holder disappears when the press ram is raised all the way up with a case in place and being resized.

I have a set of Redding shell holders' it is a #6 set. I have never used it but I have it just in case. I have used the feeler gage from the beginning to adjust the die off of the shell holder. I have suggested reloaders learn to use and understand the effect the feeler gage. I have suggested reloaders use the feeler gage before grinding the top pf the shell holder and or bottom of the die. 'WHY?' If they understood how the feeler gage could be used to sized cases they would understand why it is not necessary to grind the shell holder or die. And they would understand there is no advantage to the Redding shell holder with one big advantage on the side of the feeler gage; I can increase the length of the case from the shoulder to the case head and I can decrease the length of the case from the shoulder to the case head by placing a shim between the deck of the shell holder and case head.

Reloaders spend too much time insisting the case has head space. (One more time) I have a rifle with a long chamber. Before firing the rifle I determined the chamber was .016" longer than a minimum length full length sized case; meaning? There is .016" clearance between the shoulder of the case and shoulder of the chamber.

The Redding shell holder set give me 5 options, with little effort the feeler gage gives me 32 options that rang from 12 options below a minimum length full length sized cases and 20 options from minimum length/full length sized to a chamber that is .020" longer than a minimum length full length sized case.

And then; there are those that get tired of adjusting the die; I do not secure the lock ring to the die, I secure the die to the press with the lock ring meaning I adjust my dies ever time I use them.
