Red Jacket

I'm a firm advocate of the tasers. I think they are a much better option than using an Asp or baton.

Some of you might think having the taser mounted to a shotgun is a bad idea for this reason or that, but think about it from this perspective. I personally have not seen a police department that has a sling mounted to their carbine or shotgun. if they have the shotgun/rifle when they encounter the BG, their option is to hold it weak hand while they draw and/or fire the taser with their strong hand only, or they have to drop the long gun and risk not having control over it.

Also think the applications for a riot control squad. A couple Saiga 12s with tasers mounted underneath, loaded with rubber rounds, and you have your perfect combo of less lethal with your lethal option still riding in your holster. One thing to remember is under 15-20ft that less lethal 12ga rubber bullet can get deadly, hence the need to switch to using the taser.

I'm thinking of ordering a sbs saiga 12 with the taser affixed for home defense, although the mount was rather ugly... anyway, shoot a bad guy with the taser instead of the shotgun and there isn't a district attorney in this country that would try to come after you.
It has its applications...

food for thought.

The series of lethal incidents with less than lethals suggests otherwise.

The human factor literature suggest the convenience is outweighed by the risk.

Now granting that monstrosity was designed as a ploy to promote to Saiga-12 SBS, I feel that the chap discussing's it's application for LEOs invovled in riot control had a point.

However, if said taser was going to be mounted on a shotgun, how about mounting it on a Non-Lethal Remington 870 with the Hi-Vis orange furniture?

That doesn't sell Saigas for the shop...

As I was watching this idea being built, I was thinking 'I can't be the only one who thinks that mounting less than lethal on a 12 gauge isn't a good idea'.

Quad MG42s? Triple M16s? Really? Stick to Finn 20mms and MOH recepients' flamethrowers. Ok, maybe the swivel gun mount for an M240.

Seriously though, how many 'security' orgainzations are there that need a homemade Katusha or a swivel multiple M16 mount for convoy protection? There's a solution to needing multiple m16s at once, it's called a SAW, an M240 or an M2...

There was an interesting article in the naval newsites about how private armed guards on ships were getting arrested for having terrorist weapons when the ship stopped in Eritrea.

Imagine how they would feel if you arrived in port with the Red Jacket special Bazooka-o-tron. If they didn't die laughing, off you go into the clink for that piece of hardware. So let's see how many ships are carrying it!

"Why not mount it on an 870 with Hi-Vis Orange?"

That would be the solution for departments that can't afford completely new hardware. However, for those that can, or those that value the ability to reload in 1/6th the time, the Saiga would be a great tactical solution. Plus with the polymer handguard and the aluminum stock, there's no rule that they couldn't be painted in some sort of Hi-Vis Orange or Yellow to designate less lethal. They could even have some yellow tape around the base of the mags to further designate as less lethal. Now they don't necessarily need the SBS version, but I think it would be a better alternative to the less-lethal-only Remmy 870s.
