Red Jacket

I started watching SoG a few months ago and enjoyed the first few shows, but it quickly lost its appeal for me. In all honesty I prefer the firearms segments on Pawn Stars. Still a staged show, but I learn more about antique and collectible guns on that show that I get out of watching the SoG crew go through a very formulaic setup to produce whatever the ridiculous project of the week is before going out to act like a bunch of rednecks with a machine gun.

(Not entirely on topic, but IIRC Reagan did not take a direct hit...I think it was a ricochet off the limo armor...had the bullet exploded on impact as designed he may have escaped unharmed. I think only one of the six rounds actually did explode (Brady?) though I may very well be wrong.)

Then again, a professional hitman or assassin are trained expert shooters.

They are also normally on the offensive side of the fight also.

If you can put the muzzle on the back of someone head a .22 RF will be very deadly.

from the man himself....

Never did , rarely would [there are people with physical disabilities or limitations for whom it would just have to do ]. What I DID do however , was sell a woman a .22 to go forth and learn how to use a pistol so that when she lost her fear of the gun she could move into somthing with a bit more *** , making a decision based on experience . She was advised , after getting comfortable with the .22 ,to go to a range with a variety of rental handguns, try them , and then choose a more appropriate pistol for self defense .

The SOG crew gets very little input into what makes it on the TV screen. Its called "entetainment" . Haven't you folks learned that Hollywood, etertainment and reality is an oxymoron?

If you beleive everything you see on the TV screen folks you need a reality check.

Take the TV show with a dose of salt. TV directors are about the drama. If reality is boring then it gets passed over.

The truth is out there you just have to find it. However its far easier for us to beleive the untrue rumor that gets posted on internet message boards. That says something about our culture doesn't it?

^ this.
and if you all had not been gasping so loudly at the horror of him handing her a .22 you would have heard that response in that episode.

There was another Red Jacket post on here that was closed. The question is how does a Desert Eagle morph into a Beretta.

Answer: When the show wants to re shoot a scene from earlier where she actually shot the DE. However the gun has been returned to the customer !

restage the shoot with a Beretta!

So now we should have learned that reality TV is not reality!

What do you posters think of the Shotgun Taser Combo?

I think it is a very, very bad idea myself. I can see a police under stress forget which trigger to pull and pulling the wrong one. Plus the actual mount for the taser was horribly conceived, it look like a piece of metal plate with the holster attached that is all, they did not make cutouts to reduce weight nor smooth the sharp edges down. Did you also notice at one point the owner Will pointed the shot gun at his employees with his finger on the trigger!! That show really frightens me with the improper gun handling.

I'm on the fence about the whole idea but I will say that I think the bracket concept was a poor choice for design, especially with the fact that they were working with a weapon that already had picatinny rails.

I think it would have taken very little effort to add or design something more subtle than that gawd awful bracket.

Poor idea brought on by reality T.V.,i meant to stun him instead of sending a load of .00 buck into his chest. Some of their creations are alright ,but after awhile it's like watching American Hotrod, some people have more money than sense.

A taser/firearm combo is a fatal accident waiting to happen. Such things are discussed in the human factors analyses of less than lethals.

Didn't watch the show but it is against sensible design principles. So if the Big Talk Boss was pushing such as another get rich scheme and some agency wanted one - both are really out of it.

So if the Big Talk Boss was pushing such as another get rich scheme and some agency wanted one - both are really out of it.

He was demonstrating it to the local law enforcement, mounted on a Short Barrel Saiga. It Just stuns me (no pun intended) that a firearms company would think this is a viable idea.

Tazer/gun combo

That is why LEO's carry their sidearm on the strong side and the Tazer on the weak side. You have to cross draw the Tazer so you don't make a mistake under stress. Sons of Guns is a totally fake hacksaw jocky superfest. Enjoy.

I enjoy watching the show...I saw that episode.

With all the options, I was thinkng the same thing. why a 22 ?

Maybe it was too long in their retail inventory. A deal was made. And there is always a 'Sucka Buyer' out there.

Just unfortunate it was shown on air.....Bad for the walk-in business end of it.

I usually watch also but I did not see that episode. But I agree completely with all of you, that is a very poor design. With the number of accidents already and questionable accounts of taser use I just think that is a fatal accident waiting to happen. I hope for their sake that it never comes to fruition.

While rare, I just read of a taser shot to the noggin causing a major seizure in the person hit with it. Seemed ok after it was controlled but who knows.

I always wondered (off topic) about those taser shotty shells. Another way to mix up rounds - just happened recently and shoot someone. Or if you catch the taser round in your eyeball and the charge races up your optic nerve!

Does anyone actually use those taser shells?

Note, I'm not arguing tasers aren't a good tool but they ain't no Phaser on stun.

Tasers, IMHE, are the best tool on my belt! In most cases, just shouting the words, "taser, taser, taser" will stop the foot pursuit, fight, whatever is happening at the moment. Most BGs know that they have to cross a serious line for the pistol, or even ASP/baton, to be used. But the Taser? From verbal non-compliance and up, it's a choice! And a good one to boot.

That said, I really want the XRad rounds. We have 11.5" Colt ARs as duty rifles, and only two of us carry shotguns, I'm not one of those. If I could get XRads, my shotgun would be for non-lethal only, would probably be my Saiga 12, and I'd have several mags loaded up with either XRads or rubber rounds. Talk about crowd control!

And a Taser anywhere, I got it from collar bone to calf, hurts, lmao!! The wider the spread, the more it hurts! And the worst thing I've seen happen from Taser use is a guy who got tasered, and the probes didn't stick, dropped trough in his shorts! Yep, instantly released his bowels upon initial contact. After the first Taser strike, he gave up when I raised my Taser, lmao!

Lastly, speaking to the strong side duty weapon, and weak side Taser, that is indeed how I carry, with crossdraw for the Taser. There are a few around who carry that orientation, but have the Taser set up for straight weak side. Lastly, I like the bright yellow Tasers over the black ones for safety reasons as well. You, and the bad guy, know what you have drawn when you see the bright yellow out in front.

I liked how he tried to justify the purpose of the taser shotgun as being able to decide to use lethal or non lethal force as the situation demanded - so he took a non lethal device and mounted on the most lethal gun he could think of. I would think that if you are pointing a 12 ga. shotgun at somebody the lethal / non lethal question has already been resolved.

I know a couple different people who retired from law enforcement because of injuries due to physically restraining a subject.

I believe that tasers are probably the best law enforcement tool ever invented within the last 100 years. I can't imagine how many people have been subdued and taken into custody without officer injury because of tasers.

But having one mounted on the front of a lethal weapon is just plain stupid, no two ways about it. Look what happened in California where a suspect was accidentally shot instead if being tased. Imagine the having to live with that mistake. In my opinion this is setting officers up to fail in a big way.

Its too bad that I lost it but I had a picture that my brother (hes on swat) sent me of an x-ray of a skull where the taser dart had penetrated the skull. I thought for sure that it would be lethal, but turns out that it wasn't. I can't imagine getting one in the eye.

I do not like their taser+shotgun combo. Looked like crap and I think it was more of a ploy to sell SBR saigas than anything else.

Now that 20mm anti-tank gun was really cool especially considering the customers rich history. I want to shoot one!
