Recommend a handy woods rifle.

I know you reload, but I wonder how the rifle would like 100 grain core lokts; you might want to try some and if they are accurate, you could probably duplicate them in a reload. It'll be interesting to see if heavier bullets provide tighter groups through that rifle. Not that you appear to need tighter groups, you got a deer with it already!

I actually ordered a Timney trigger for it along with some Sierra 85gr HPBT Gameking bullets to try. I'll work up some loads with the HPBT and SST bullets.

I have Accurate 4350 and also Hybrid 100V powders to try.

Texas hunters used to swear by that bullet. I always shot the 105g Speer spitzer out of mine at a smoking 3000 fps :)
Most of my "hill farm" deer are similar in size to Texas deer. There's no farm ground for food sources, so they don't grow all that big.

The new Timney trigger was installed last night on my Model 7 and it made a world of difference! I have it adjusted to 2.5lbs and it breaks like glass. So now to start working up some loads for it. At least now if it doesn't group like I'd want, I can eliminate the trigger pull as a culprit.

I know I am late to the party, but my recommendation would have been a Ruger Gunsite Scout. Super handy, looks nice, accurate enough and a 308.

Don't let anyone knock a Nikon scope, I have had 2 prostaffs, a slug hunter and a buckmaster. One of the prostaffs stood up to 450 marlin recoil. I currently am using the buckmaster on my 450 bushmaster build, a combo I used to take a 3 point buck this year with. My current prostaff I have on my RAR 308 and it was used to take an 8 point last year. All of them are 3-9. I would tend to agree with lower power being better in the woods, but to each his own. I won't judge your choice.

That is a nice looking setup. If I wasn't big on keeping few calibers around I'd snap up a 243 bolt gun.
