recoil comparisons

I've gotten to detest recoil over a good many years. I own a T/C Contender in .45-70 that I no longer shoot due to it's horrendous recoil with anything other than factory 405s. My FAL is adjusted to nearly that of a .22 and my AR has far more recoil. While shooting my FAL, I traded guns to my neighbor for a few shots. He was firing an old Western Field bolt in .308. It beat the hell out of me in comparison-not bad, but noticeable. I've decided that I'm too old for that macho Seyfriedesque stuff anymore. Even my shotgun, shooting my favorite 00 buck loads is a soft-shooting Mossberg 930 SPX and my Redhawk is my upper limit in my pistols.
Guess that's why my all-time favorite caliber is 22LR.;)

I'm one of those guys who can not tolerate a lot of recoil. .308 is the top end of recoil that I can shoot with consistent accuracy. 30-06 is too much for me but 270 isn't too bad with 130 gr bullets.

Most of my deer hunting is with 30-30 carbine fitted with a LimbSaver pad.

I can remember my old 7mm mag and some well HOT loaded reloads, several rounds shot off the bench would actually start my nose bleeding, barrel too hot to touch, ah the good old times. (NOT). I never felt it shooting at game, but later I would feel it not pain per se but you knew you had shot it. Anymore I am kind of a wuss, love my 7-08 and wifes .243 with loads mild enough you get to watch a water jug blow up in the scope. there are so many factors that are a part of felt or perceived recoil aside from the cartridge, fit of the stock, recoil pad or not, position when firing, snugged to the shoulder or not, mental expectations, and one of the big one I preach to kids in Hunter Education is muzzle blast. Want to shoot better off a bench, wear ear plugs AND muffs. I enjoy shooting much more now that I have gotten the "big booms" out of my system and shoot girlie guns and 12 gauges with 7/8 loads etc.:o
