PM45 Nightmare

Ammo

Now I have ammo coming out of my ears!
Bass Pro had some in stock when I went in so I bought a box of 250 rounds of range ammo for $97.00 and a 4 boxes of Golden Saber and now my online orders that were back ordered are arriving!
I will go to the range soon and put this issue to bed once and for all. I have many flavors now so I'll let ya'll know what I found is her favorite.
Thanks again for everyones input/help!
:D

Have you had a chance to fire those Golden Saber 185+P? Those things are freaking flame throwers. I love it. Makes me giggle every time I touch one off. They're reliable though and they cycle my gun just fine. BTW, those Hornady's were the exact same ones that gave me problems. They were a little too long for the throat in the Kahr. Hope you have better luck.

PM45

Glad to hear things are going your way. The Irish luck is paying off.

It is worthy to note that seemingly 50% of the PM series units experience "teething" issues for the first year or so initially, but one would think that going from 9 to 40 then to 45 they would "get it" from a design and manufacturing standpoint.

I had initial problems with my PM9 a couple years ago and it required one trip back to get it right.
It has been fine ever since. Kahr customer service was good and the folks took care of me.

Many owner/operators don't have the patience to work through the issues with a pistol that is 6lbs in a 5lb can. Heck I even had to send a brand new revolver back to S&W and it wasn't a newly designed item they all have their problems...sooner or later.

I'm just glad to have my personal two year quest for pocket carry handguns over with. I have three debugged and suitable for carry. PM9, Seecamp .380 and S&W M&P 340 .38/357.

I'm ready to move on to mid range sizes which should have fewer tolerance challenges.

I may pick up a PM 45 some day, but I'm going to wait a couple years for them to get the QC bugs worked out. There really is no reason for a 50% hit rate on a manufactured product.

Not good news

Went to Range last Thursday and the lil' sucker was back to her old tricks with failures to load and stove piping.
I'm sending her back!

I did get to shoot a Colt New Agent at the range that day....what an amazing gun to shoot!
It was 45 caliber, next to no muzzle flip (compared to the PM45), very light, accurate, just a little bigger than my PM45 and not much heavier (though the specs say it is 7oz heavier) and very comfortable to shoot!
Oh yeah...and it holds 7 +1!!!

My next 45 will definately be 1911 design!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kahr will be sending me a NEW PM45 that they have "broken in" with 250 rounds because I refuse to throw any more ammo at this freakin' weapon.
Hopefully this "New" one will perform as expected....pull trigger, bang, next round chambered!!!

The New PM!

Well Kahr sent me another and they "broke it in" for me by putting 250 rounds through it before shipping it to me. I took it straight to the range as is and put about 100+ rounds through it w/o a failure to feed or a single stove pipe. I did have 4 misfires which occured towards the end of my testing... "soft firing pin hits" though not all in a row and were progressively closer together. I took it apart at the range and just wiped it down and put another 20 or so rounds through her w/o a problem. I threw every flavor of ammo I had through this gun and so far so good! I think it was just dirty. I'm pretty sure this one is a winner! I then went home and went to work cleaning it and polishing it. I'll now be able to go to the range for fun! My XD was getting jealous!
BTW...Kahr gave me a two extra mags for a total of four and paid overnight shippping each way every time !!!!

In conclusion:

***** Easily Concealable!
***** Very Accurate even at 25 yds!
*** Managable recoil (not as bad as one would expect from a 19oz .45!)
***** Very Light
***** Great customer support!!!
The gun is fun to shoot. I really like the trigger pull. It always draws a crowd!

The fix!

Thanks again Ben for the contact as that was a huge help!
So here is the fix...
My brother-in-law helped me determine that the pickup ramp (see http://www.defensivecarry.com/forum...59-how-properly-lube-kahr-pistol-diagram.html #9 for illustration) was gauging the casings. This apparently took just enough "speed" off of the cycle to cause stove pipe after stove pipe even after I got the gun replaced. He suggested that I take some 1000 grit sandpaper wrapped around a flat square chisel (to maintain flatness) and polish aka take down the pickup ramp ever so slowly (at first I just sanded it until it was polished) tried a few rounds, polished some more.
It shoots anything from range ammo to +P any flavor now without a hiccup!
I've been on the road the last three years and just now found the time to confirm it was a fix and had to share.:D
Thanks again guys for all your help!
Cheers!

Thanks for the update. I will certainly keep your post in mind whenever I hear of someone having trouble with their 45 Kahr.

I wonder why the factory couldn't figure that out.

Kahrs are expensive guns unless you get the econo-versions..... either way its too much money to spend on a gun that you have to kitchen table gunsmith yourself to make it work reliably.

I've been lucky with my Kahrs, but so so many others have gotten lemons. if you get a good Kahr you have a good one, however if you get a bad one they suck pretty bad.
