Plastic Parts on Beretta 92FS - What's the conclusion?

But, you're OK with totally polymer guns?
First of all, I don't see that happening. I don't see how it would be possible to make an all polymer gun.

If it were possible, or becomes possible sometime in the future, you can bet that I wouldn't be first in line to buy one.

I think that it's not really profitable to worry about guns becoming all plastic just because some gun parts are now made with, or partially out of plastic. One might as well worry that cars will soon be made entirely of plastic because plastic is now used in some car parts.

From what I can tell, in both cases, the choice to make certain non-stressed/low stress parts out of plastic in both cases has not resulted in products that are less serviceable when the manufacturer has a dedication to producing a good product. It may be esthetically unacceptable/undesirable to some, but when it's done right, it doesn't seem to cause functional problems.

I think my Beretta 96fs Inox with its black polymer coated metal parts is a gorgeous gun. It is my favorite, and balances like no other. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but for some reason, I was never bothered by the polymer coated metal parts. :) I wouldn't change a thing.

You knew what I meant. Polymer less the essential steel parts.
Actually I didn't know what you meant. I wasn't even sure that you were addressing something I posted or a post from someone else.

If we adopt the definition of "totally polymer" as being "polymer less the essential steel parts" then we already have pistols like that.

I own a few pistols that are either "totally polymer" or close to it by that definition, so I guess I'm ok with them. They function well and seem to be plenty durable. I don't think they have the same esthetic properties as an "all metal" pistol, but as an engineer, I have a strong appreciation for functionality.

But if you want to know which of my pistols I think are the best looking, that's easy...

That is an awesome looking gun.

I can order paint as well for guns like the Brownells Aluma Hyde II epoxy paint.
Which colour is Barrel, slide and grips? Is it a Kind of Coyote Brown?

Thanks!

The colors didn't come out quite right in the picture.

All the light colored parts are either clear anodized aluminum (92FS INOX frame, grips on both guns, 92FS INOX magazine floorplate), stainless steel (slide & barrel) or the plating (probably NP3) that Beretta uses on their "INOX" small steel parts.

The sights on the Elite II are blued but all the other dark colored parts (Elite II hammer & decock levers, Elite II frame) are coated in the Beretta Bruniton finish.

Here's another picture of the Elite II that may show the colors a little better.

Here's a picture of both sides of the 92FS INOX before I installed the aluminum grips.
