Pistols similar to the Glock 19

XD Mod 2 9mm or XD9 are both close and I might trade a G19 to go to one of them.

I prefer the XD platform, but the G19 is a better rounds vs size balance. I prefer an XD over all other Glocks, but they just got the G19 size and firepower right....maybe we need a double stack XDS9 4"??!

Thanks Cyanide971, I may have to find one just to judge for myself. Sorry for the thread veer.
I got to agree the 19 is a very nice size gun.

I feel the Springfield XD line of pistols outdoes the Glocks these days for a number of reasons. First, they use the melonite finish that Glock has abandoned for the US market. It's a durable finish and was one of the things that Glocks were known for.

Second, the grip geometry is much better for the average person. I know some people love the Glock grip, but usually people want to modify them to make them more ergonomic.

Next, the XD line of pistols are overbuilt. The slide rails, and pretty much every aspect of the pistol, is beefier than a Glock. The guns are built like tanks and have been around long enough to have proven themselves durable in to the tens of thousands in round counts.

A couple more things that may or may not appeal to you: They have a higher bore axis than Glocks and that helps with sight acquisition while shooting rapid-fire. Also, the grip safety makes for a very safe way to reholster by using the pad of your thumb while the back of your hand is off the grip as you re-holster assuring you cannot negligently discharge the weapon.

I was all about the Glock when I first started shooting and carrying, but after getting my first XD, I'm converted. I sold off my Glocks and gone to Springfield.

One more thing about the XD line of pistols: I'm picky about triggers, and often will tweak and mod to get them to my liking. I've never felt the need with the XD pistols I've bought. Ever one of them felt great out of the box and shot straight and true with ease.

That says a lot in these days of unnecessarily heavy, mushy, gritty triggers.

And one more thing that the XD surpassed Glock is........
Fuglyness!
Man those things are way uglier than any glock could ever dream of being.
Waaaay overdone on the tacticool looking like rubber tires.
I've owned over half a dozen glocks but would not touch an XD with a ten foot pole just because they are so ugly!

Oh, and did I say I didn't like their looks????:D

I've been looking for something to replace my Glock 27 with conversion barrel for most of the last year.
I haven't found anything yet.
I am pretty sure I will end up with either a G26 or G27 as using a conversion barrel for 9mm 100% of the time seems foolish.

Constantine, if you're looking for a new carry gun, just don't sell the G19 to get it. You already know how this winds up. You go out, looking for some strange pistol, get all excited, and trade off the G19. Six months later, you come back around, asking her to forgive you and wondering why you ever strayed.

If you're going to cheat on your G19, I'm going to suggest the XD(m) 3.8" Compact, but that's just because I want to hear your range report.

Only 3 people on this forum know me this well.

I know I know. I'm holding onto this one I swear. The honest wear it has by me has my name all over it. I've even left it factory, cause after a stipple job you know how I feel.

I agree with the poster a few posts up who stated he doesn't like XD's. I think I've mentioned to you why I don't. That silly little thing on the grip.. no, just no. It belongs on a 1911 and a 1911 only. I've personally see 2-3 fail when the extractor fell out. Then we saw the pins on the top of the slide walked off. This was in 2012 I think. So maybe that's changed.

But yes, a Glock is Glock ugly. An XD is Hi-Point ugly. You guys want to talk about pretty guns, that's a SIG Sauer or Heckler and Koch (my go to carry pistols that are pretty.) Or Browning High-Powers and 1911's (my go to pretty pistols for the range mainly.)

So can't do XD's. I wish Smith and Wesson came out with a 19 sized pistol..

I can't think of too many HKs that I'd call "pretty", unless we're talking a P7. CZ on the other hand...(yup I will keep bringing it up).

So long that you can't think of one thing off of it on a thread where you asked for suggestions from others. It's also relatively rude not to give an answer when people are using their time to try to help you and knowing why you don't like something (i.e. you don't like the grip safety on the XD) would likely help with other suggestions as your original specifications don't seem to have come up with a lot of alternatives that you like. You have eliminated a lot of the suggestions as it is. Maybe more info would yield options you like. Or just get another HK or SIG and call it a day.

Do you dislike the SR simply because of the mag disconnect or is there something about its looks that you find unappealing. Some of the pistols you mentioned liking have a thumb safety so I'm guessing that's not a big drawback for you, if l it is is the mag disconnect it takes less than 3 minutes to take it out and have the pistol ready to go again. If judging it by the older P-series Rugers it is a completely different ball game. ..Just curious

Manufacturer wise. Just to try out.

The best answer to your quest (the obvious one) is to go to one of the local ranges in Dade County and see if they have one of what you would like to try out for rent.

Shoot it, and I'm sure it will satisfy at least some of your curiosity.

Personally, if I have something that works, and I know it's always going to work, I stick with it.

Pardon me for being a dinosaur, but that's why I have carried and relied on a Browning 1910 for the last 45 years. It saved my ass twice in Miami some decades ago and once here in Arizona.

The Ruger SR right?
I just don't aesthetically like all the safeties and warnings. They don't appeal to me at all. And actually, I swear the V3 decocker being a V1 even, when it's a safety and a decocker.. rubs my thumb a little too much. So I'm looking to change into a different version for the HK. I have huge, huge hands.

You too have encountered that in Miami. See? I knew it wasn't just me. Sorry you went through it. It took me a while to get an understanding of it.

Dinosaurs welcome. LOL.

I agree with this so hard. That gun is the P226. At work I really seek out deep concealment. The P226 is a little too large in the grip to that when I move in certain ways, it'll show. The 19 is a little better with that.

Not to mention, while SIG's are my favorite guns... They have a masters degree in rusting. I know this first hand. Been carrying SIG's for work, concealment while out and about, in the park running around with my fiance and the dog, etc. They don't like moisture.

The Glock. That chunk of plastic and metal that's in a metal shape that hold little to be desired, does what I need it to without complaints.

....... Should I just get another Glock? lol...

The compact Steyr (S9-A1) is very close to a G19 in size and weight and my current EDC. It's a bit pickier with ammo, lacks the Glock aftermarket support, and has trapezoid sights that some dislike (I think they're great). But it has a superior factory trigger, lower bore axis, and terrific ergonomics. It's downfall for many is a 10 round mag capacity, which is why I carry an extra.

What I'm really waiting for is the return of Caracal C with "Quick Sights" - in my opinion, a gun superior to the G19 in most ways (if you don't count the global safety recall).
