Pistols similar to the Glock 19

In the following aspects:

  • Size
  • Capacity
  • Striker
  • Weight
  • Price Range (Same or $100 within range of a Glock 19)

What are your thoughts of them? (Heckler and Koch VP9 and SIG Sauer P320)

Are whatever they are worth swapping out my Glock 19 for and all that I have invested into it? (Holsters, magazines, parts, parts, parts, training time, etc.)

Are you asking us for opinions of other pistols, or just the VP9 and P320?

I wouldn't get rid of a system that you have that much invested in. I don't think either of those pistols are that much better than the Glock 19 to warrant that kind of loss. If you could get it in supplement to the Glock 19 then that's a different story. I will also say that the VP9 in grip length/height (which to me is the most important dimension if we're talking carry) is more similar to a Glock 17. The P320 is also notably taller than a Glock 19, though that height is in the slide.

It depends on how particular you are about the exact size of the Glock 19. Now some folks would say the differences are small, and I don't disagree. My argument would be that if you're not overly particular about size than there are a number of pistols with 17 rd capacity, ala M&P, that are very similar in size to the VP9 and P320.

In ~80 pistols I've owned the Glock 19 is, imo, the only pistol of that exact size and capacity for a striker fired pistol.

I guess only you can answer that.

What about the Glock, do you NOT like? What aspect are you wanting to change? You lay put the specs for a G19, but say you want something different. Different in what way?

That's what I've noticed too. Was hoping I was wrong.

Nothing it's great. I want to see what's similar.

What aspect are you wanting to change?
None. Just looking for something very similar but different to try out.

Manufacturer wise. Just to try out.

Was in a LGS and they had a HK P2000 (full size).
Had been wanting a SK (compact) but they didn't have one.

Once I held the HK, I really liked it. So they had a Glock 19 in the case and I asked to hold them side by side, and the HK P2000 was the same size as the glock 19. Grip felt better! Trigger was DA/SA and felt pretty good.
I would have bought it had the price been better and I had the cash.

HK P 2000 sk is more the size of the glock 26.

I'm glad you mentioned that. While it isn't striker fired, I still love DA/ SA. I just want to keep something similar to the 19. It's been around and it's been carried for many years, I just haven't seen anything that's just like it.

My P226 is the same as an HK USP 9 for example.

Walther PPQ (or P99 AS).

It is very similar in size to the Glock 19. Maybe 3/16 an inch more in height that makes it perfect for me. I have shot my Glock 19 like once since getting my PPQ over 2 years ago. My PPQ is my main CCW pistol in either a Raven Concealment Phantom or Jm Custom Kydex IWB version 4.

Try the SD's. But Glock 19 is the best Glock in my opinion. At times I have thought about trading my G27 for a G19. But since I already have conversion barrel and mags, I end up keeping it.

I recently bought a XD mod2 in .45. I know, different caliber but it feels good in the hand but have not fired it yet.

I had that gun. It was pretty awesome, it just did not wow me then. But it is very similar in size to the Glock 19, has the same capacity and even weight. Just the parts are not as readily available from local dealers. Which isn't necessarily a deal breaker, but it does play some contributing factors. I also like to be able to detail strip my guns if need be.

I remember when I had a Glock 27. I did not miss it one bit, but like you I also got a conversion barrel.

I handle the 19 very well. Almost like I'm manhandling it. I'm sure I could do the same with a 26 just fine.

I'm not too fond of XD's, CZ's, or Taurus though. :/

Well that might rule out the VP9 for you then. It's another great gun that I aslo have but it supposedly is a real challenge to detail strip (Bruce Gray's words) - much more so than the PPQ.

The SIG P320C might be something for you to consider.

Yeesh.. I'm not too fond of a gun that you need a degree to detail strip. I have to detail strip every so often. At least certain parts of the weapon.
What CZs did you own?
I don't need to own any to know that I don't like them. I just don't, at all.
Glocks fit my hand terrible, I much prefer my FN FNS and Ruger SR.
They use to fit mine weird until I just got used to it. Now I can go back and forth between my Glocks and SIGs without an issue. Only thing I will admit, is that then muscle memory of my training with Glock and SIG has kind of ruined 1911's under stress for me. Which I don't mind. Not an issue I want to spend time and money on fixing. Reason being, I grab really high up on others so when I do the same to a 1911 the grip safety is often not engaged.

I'll look into the FN. I'm going to stop by the shop after work. I called my buddy, they have a few.

I'd say "have to" is strong wording. In many cases you really don't. As long as the pistol is properly lubricated and cleaned it should keep working. There are many parts on cars these days that are sealed systems. With a lot of striker pistols you could honestly spray the trigger group with an aerosol degreaser, drop in some lube, and you're good to go. It does help to be able to take the striker out to clean the channel though.

No no. I really "have to" lol.

Swamps, mud, dirt, etc. I'm very outdoorsy and I don't like leaving wet debris in any mechanism of my firearms. So my SOP after a day is usually to clear and function test. If anything feels funny or sounds funny I need to detail strip it.

The things I've found.....
