Well, I'm sure everything has been tried, but jumping or fast roping with dogs is definatley not doctrine.

Years ago it may have been more critical due to the role of dogs in combat. Today the role of MWD's is very different.

70-101 . Just for the record the 173rd came the closest to a "combat jump" in Feb. 1967 .Many airborne troops jumped just to get somewhere quickly but never close enough to be considered a "combat jump". This term is reserved for a "behind the lines" infiltration . I don't remember there ever being a "line". I must admit that the 101st served well especially in the Anshaw (sp) Valley . Hamburger Hill to be exact . AIRBORNE!!!

"C-130 rolling down the strip......" :barf:
Airborne, airborne, airborne. All they can talk about is jumpin' out of airplanes, yada, yada, yada............... Don't you realize that units have evolved out of that primative airborne state to a higher level, called Air Assault? Besdies any idiot can follow the guy in front of him out of the door of the plane. ;)
"Pick-up your ropes and follow me........."
