ever notice how when winter is coming, the price of salt to put on your sidewalk goes up? it's - unamerican! enough of this free enterprise stuff! we need the government to step in and fix prices for - everything! i say - from each according to his ability, to each according to his need!

(i'm being sarcastic)

fear can go a long way as far as leading people down paths that is not to their advantage. i would have thought recent years had taught us a lot about that.

Ok...let me understand this....if I sell plywood and a hurricane is on the way...and I jack up prices 1000%...

Duke, that is an invalid comparison.

Why? Because there is no hurricane on the way.

If anything, we are the hurricane. When we stop buying, the prices will come down. If they can get the price they're asking, why would they sell cheaper?

I agree - it's just capitalism, but I sure as hell won't buy from them ever again. That's capitalism, too.

Exactly, and in a free market, they have to answer for their behavior. They aren't the only guys selling bullets.

Why is this just happening with .380 ammo?! Its not like Obama is banning handguns, just assault rifles, and last I checked there weren't too many assault rifles using the .380 ACP.

.380 Auto is typically a low-volume (rounds fired) cartridge. With several new carry .380s released this year, and many people snapping them up... they need ammo to test their weapon with, and keep on hand.

Add in the hoarders, and you've got yourself a legitimate shortage of .380 ammo.

I've heard a few gun store owners and operators that say the ammo manufacturers have the ammo on hand, they just aren't releasing it--keeping the panic prices around a little longer. I'm not saying this is true, but I've heard it from a couple of owners. I'm not folding a new tinfoil hat yet though.

The local wally mart got two cases of Blazer Brass 9mm 115gr FMJ for $8.97, and it sat on the shelf for nearly a week. That is in a city of about 50,000. I think the panic is subsiding.

I've made several purchases from Cheaper Than Dirt in the past and was always pleased with their prices and delivery.

But that was then, and this is now. They were the first on-line vendor that I noticed to adopt panic pricing and to refuse to honor catalog prices even on the day I received their latest catalog. They've now taken it to an extreme.

I'm done with 'em. There are many other sources that are much more reasonable. :barf:

Some data drone punched in the wrong price. They have a lot of other brands (UMC, PMC, Fiocchi, Magtech) in the $14 to $16 range for a 50 rnd box of .380 ...

Not only that, but they continue to put older, lower prices in their catalog, even when those prices are seemingly no good at the time of mailing. Not cool.

No, that's the correct price (see post #26). All those other, lower prices are on out-of-stock items.

I"m not going to get mad but will get even. These places that are ripping us off I just won't deal with. But never did do business with CTD:eek: But have one gun store won't do business with again. There price became so ridicules no sense even going in to buy anything.

I have a friend that owns a Gun shop and help him out quite often I know what the prices are and what the average markup is and it makes me sick to see some of these gunshops and sporting good store taking advantage of a bad time for the american shooter.

My suggestion is find a good local shop that you know is on the up and up and only deal with them leave the rest High and dry and let them have there 100 dollar bricks of primers, $60.00 boxes of 9mm shells and so on.

Everyone is still paying the same price for ammo and primers and reloading componets as the next shop give or take a few bucks. almost all of the wholesalers are comparable in prices. The balance of the markup comes from the shop. Last order of Small Pistol primers that we received was at $26.00 a brick and sold for $32.00 a brick That left a $6.00 profit margin per brick guess its not all that bad when you sell 100,000 primers.

You need to let these mail order places know that they are ripping us off and find someone local.

i hate to split hairs, but a "bad time" for shooters would be when they actually needed the ammo. not when they were buying up 20,000 rounds to stockpile.

there's some old saying about a fool and his money being soon separated.

Let's be fair, we - the buying public - are bringing this on ourselves. Enough of us are buying enough ammo to cause the demand that gives retailers the mix of real impetus and perceived license to ask these prices. If we stopped this tomorrow, the prices would settle back pretty quick. I say we start a movement: "Stop the (Buying) Madness!"

I don't see how further discussion here is going to help anything (especially since we've gotten to the "+1" stage).

It's outrageous - it's capitalism; it's both IMO, but continuing to rant about it does nothing but waste time and space.
