Odd experience at Walmart this evening.

You did the right thing. You assessed the situation and while putting yourself in a defensive position you kept an eye on it. No crime was committed here, just young people being foolish. I am glad that I was able to be foolish in my youth without being arrested, or killed. I admit that I am critical of gansta dressing youth, but I have met some who were good kids. They were dressing like the other kids do. I remember wearing pink and black shirts and Levi's with just a 1/2 inch of cuff. Remember pegged pants? Yuck!!

As far as being blessed with powers of arrest, yes! We are all able to make an arrest by private person,(citizen's arrest) and the police are required by law to accept your prisoner. You are then required to justify your arrest, and you better be right. Liability rests with you.

Red you showed good sense, I am proud of you

I'd have called the police. Then I'd have eyed balled the guy until the cops showed up. If he got in a car, I'd have gotten the plate.

I wouldn't have braced the guy myself. From what I got from the original post, the situation wouldn't be a deadly force incident that would warrant me drawing down on the guy.

And, I'm a cop.

Don't all Wally-Worlds in North Carolina either post "No Firearms" or have a stated policy against firearms in the store? So were you both breaking the law?

Don't know about the WalMarts in NC. I've never seen such a sign at a WalMart in Georgia. I've open carried in my local WalMart without anyone giving me a second glance.

By the way, WalMart could put up signs stating 'No firearms allowed' with letters ten feet tall here and it would have absolutely no legality.

The question on WalMart was put to rest, either here or at THR, awhile back with a letter from the CEO stating that they had no no gun policy and that legal CCWs were welcome

Much as we might like to, judging person's character by baggy pants isn't accurate. I work at Boeing Commercial Airplanes and a lot of the people who make the airplanes you and your families fly on look no different from the gangstas. It's just the fashion for people in a certain age range. Boeing is REAL careful about who they hire and a criminal record is likely to be a disqualifying factor- and yes they DO run a background check before you get a start date.

As much as that SHOULD be true, the only factor I have on making an assessment of people I run into is the way they dress, and the way they act. So for me, if you dress like a gangsta, act like a gangsta......
