guns and booze in VA

It is my understanding that if you couldn't mix guns and alchohol in Viginia, family reunions wouldn't be combined with shotgun weddings either!;) (Of course that could probably be said about my home Hoosier state also. At least in the part we refer to as "Evanstuky")

Anyone have any other thoughts that I am not grasping?

I don't know. When in doubt, just obey the law. If a current law is a real problem, lobby for a change.

We call ourselves Law abiding citizens to differentiate ourselves from the criminals. So in order to call ourselves that, we should abide by the law.

I suppose you don't drive 62 in a 55 zone either, right?

Quite correct. I do no more than 4 to 5 miles over the speed limit. I'm an ER nurse, and I continually see the effects of people breaking the speed laws. And, being an ER nurse, I have numerous interaction with all local and state law enforcement and I know most of them on a first name basis, and, while this is NO excuse to break the speed laws, it will most likely end up with either a warning or admonishment.

By the way, if I see you in the ER, and I feel you should get morphine, should I give it to you, or should I follow the LAW and ask the Dr. first? Is this one law you want someone to pick and choose?

I have been a LIFE member of the NRA for 44 years now, and were I to sit on your jury in a case where you are being criminally charged for carrying where prohibited by LAW, yes, I would vote not only to convict you, I would also vote and recommend the maximum available punishment.

In the end though, I DO see your point, I carry to protect my family and myself, going into business in Virginia that post prohibted weapons signs I do carry because it is NOT a law so therefore no law is broken, but in some states that is law, and I would not break the law, because in this state, when you pick up your CCW either the first time or renewal, by signing for it, you state you will abide by ALL Local/State/Federal laws, and by signing with the intent to break the law, they can also charge you with falsifying a legal document.

Thank God I live in Indiana

I guess it would have to be said that there are darn few places in Indiana where I could actually break the law by carrying with a permit. There is the courthouse, but I don't carry there, as I stated before. (My buddy/neighbor who is a Captain in the I.S.P. once told me that if things go bad in a courthouse, the cops who respond will most likely shoot anyone showing a gun and not wearing a uniform. Ok, the gun stays in the car for that one.) But as for businesses that post "no guns", I can't find anywhere that in Indiana that carries legal weight. Yes, they can ask me to leave and I would do so.
But if you read the second amendment carefully and understand its history, it's not really about that anyway. It is about the right of the people to protect themselves from an overreaching and oppressive federal government! This is even more directly stated within the Declaration of Independence. That is why I get so riled up when people seem less than outraged by ANY restrictions placed on this right by that very government. After all, the men who wrote it must have thought it pretty important to place it second after freedom of speech and religion and above self incrimination, cruel punishment, search and seizure, and powers of the states and people.

“Fear ANY government that fears your gun.”

CCW in Missouri

In Missouri we just passed an amendment to our CCW law that has lowered our carry age from 23 to 21. We also now allow CCW on State campuses. With all of the crazies around we need to keep all rights including the right to carry. With what is going on in Houston TX looking for illegal guns that are going to Mexico, our President should be more concerned about Chryslers truck production going to Mexico using our tax dollars to fund that operation.

Colorado

Liberty1: No problem with alcohol being served in Colorado as long as not drinking. We're only banned from most government buildings, post office, and schools.

I am not a Colorado resident, but I did look into this issue once. The only express limitation regarding alcohol that I could find was a prohibition on carrying while "under the influence of intoxicating liquor or of a controlled substance" (with no specific BAC established). There was one appellate court case that had upheld a conviction on the ground that the defendant conceded that he was too drunk to drive. A zealous prosecutor could argue that any amount of alcohol "influences" the body, but that is not the most obvious interpretation of the statute, and I don't know how that interpretation might jibe with that same phrase in other statutes (assuming that it appears).
