Nightstand

On the night stand no holster can put it in my hand in the dark second nature just like turning off the alarm clock. No kids 2 dogs but I told them to leave it alone and they mind better than most kids

Before my wife and I had kids, I kept a S&W Sigma series in 40 cal on the nightstand with one in the chamber.

Now that we have them (my oldest is 6) I keep my G17 in a key pad safe right by the night stand. I know it's not as easily accessible in the safe, but I just can't take the chance of the kids getting into it.

I keep all of my rifles locked up and unloaded with the bolts removed or a cable lock in place.

I think its important to mention that anyone with firearms and kids in the home should start to familiarize them with the guns at an early age. Teaching them gun safety when they are young is crucial in preventing accidents.

I used to keep a .45 in the drawer, but I have changed my strategy and weapon of choice. It now leans against my nightstand and is a 12 gauge 8 shot pump with a 20 inch barrel.

There is also plenty of lead time (pun intended) with my three dogs.

When I'm not awake, my gun is kept in the nightstand right next to me. Otherwise, it is in the holster on my hip or placed elsewhere while I am in the shower. I have no kids and my dogs and cats have their own guns. My wife gets cell phone duty in case of break in.

My dogs bark at the wind blowing so as soon as a BG even walked into my yard, I would know.

inside.

I dont need to knock it on the floor when im reaching for water.

and i dont need anyone to see it if they decide to walk into my bedroom. Not that i care, they just literally dont need to see it.

That goes 99% for family and 1% for bad guy.

If its in the drawer and i fumble around with it, it isnt going very far, and its not gonna hit the floor.

Even though I have a " night stand " ( plastic table ) I keep mine next to the bed on one of my ammo cans. Once my child figures out how to get to that area ( which is hard to get to by an adult ) then a gun vault will be sitting next to the bed.

I hate to be this guy but...

It sounds like youre waiting for a close call before you do something proactive about gun safety.

How are you going to know hes able to get in there until hes done it once?

Just sayin'...

I know the situation is probably you have a newborn and arnt worried about it until he can walk, or something of a similar nature, but I'm gonna be a jerk tonight before i log off.

She can't get past the safety gate . And even before I think she could I would get the vault. But for her to get to my gun #1 she would have to climb a mountain of things ( Which if she did it would fall and wake me ) #2 climb over me ( again waking me ). But I probably will get one as soon as I can afford one. I would rather have one and not take a chance. But to my defense I always have one with me and the one at home is always locked with a cable lock and the key is always with me.

I have two loaded handguns IN my nightstand. I do not like to leave them ON the nightstand. I have my ashtray and my drink up there, I would hate to knock one or both onto my gun.

I sometimes sleep with my XD under my pillow, but kind of lost that habit after an xgf freaked out.

For home defense, my shotgun is propped up where I would take cover. I just have to roll out of bed, grab the shotgun, watch the door and call 911.

My dog is the only one with access to my room.

My 1911 is on a magnet mount in the drawer. When I open the drawer the night sights are visible and I just slide the gun off the magnet.
Works like charm...

I live alone. SP101 or Kahr CW45 on the nightstand and a 20 gauge Mossberg in the corner of the room (2 ft from bed).

I have shelves next to my bed. The top shelf has my carry gun (LCP) and extra magazine. The lower has my nightstand gun (Beretta PX4) and extra magazine. Both are disassembled every 2-4 weeks to clean dust and particles and touch up lubricant.

The reason I ask is because inside offers concealment for whatever reason, but on the stand is faster, less fumbling around. Granted I have 2 Shepherds who bark if they hear leaves blowing outside which would give me advance notice if I needed to access mine. I do keep mine in the stand. Those of you who keep it inside, does it hinder your access if awakened out of a dead sleep? As stated by some, do kids factor into your location at night?

Mine is on the bed frame and in my FAS1 Safe handgun safe. It is very quick to access with the push button lock and reliable since it is all mechanical. Some people will pre-punch the combo so they just turn the knob at night. Some will keep it open at night but it doesn't take them long to have confidence in how fast they can open it and how reliable it is. For me, no kids in the house any more but I only want myself and the wife to have access. I don't have to remember to put my gun away when the house keepers come or we have guests. I think whether you have it in the drawer or on top of your nightstand you will still fumble with it at night and it is sitting there without the trigger covered. Makes for a slightly dangerous grab under duress in the middle of the night. Mine is holstered and presented to me in the exact same place every time making it very quick and safe.

I'm single, no kids, and I don't own a dog. I have a queen size bed and the pistol is under the second pillow next to me (unchambered). So in case of a break-in, I just chamber a round and i'm good to go.
