Nightstand/ range gun/ occasional carry: help me pick between 5 guns

I have shot several other makes and models (and own several) and nothing stands up to Sig in terms of just always going "bang" imho.

It's great that you like Sigs (so do I, though not so much the recent-production American stuff), but there are plenty of brands that stand up to them just fine in this and other regards. This is pretty fanboy-level commentary.

Ruger SR9: good trigger, decent sights, pretty bad ergonomics. Felt like I was holding a block of wood.
M&P: Very comfortable. Very soft recoil. Had a trigger job so I can't comment on that.
SP2022: was ok at everything but just didn't quite strike me in any way.
SP226: Just a more solid feeling SP2022 with slightly more comfortable grip.
H&K P30: Very nice gun. Extremely comfortable and accurate with very smooth trigger. Awesome slide release too.

I'm gonna wait for VP9 and see if I like it better than M&P

I did seem to like striker fired pistols better by the way.

I'm glad to hear you had a productive range trip. I hope you keep us updated on your search.

I dunno. Why get a double stack if you can't get the benefit out of it? I'll throw the Sig P239 in the mix. It's what I carry off duty 90% of the time and lives in the nightstand when I'm asleep, so as far as I'm concerned, it fills all the roles.
9mm is good. .40 (though you give up a round) is better because a barrel swap (and mags if you're going to carry it) and you also have a 357 SIG.

I carry the DAK, but whatever you're comfortable with.

Absolutely no reason you can't make one pistol do all of things you want to do.
I have owned both a Berretta 92 and a Colt 1911, at different times and each served my purpose, which, like you, you, was a general purpose piece.
I am going to get flamed for this, but my Colt 1911 was a jam-a-matic and I will never buy another 1911 for reasons other than reliability, cost being one. In this age of reliable pistols, the 1911 is , IMHO, the least reliable and the most expensive.
The 92 was extremely reliable, but I found the pistola to be a little on the big side for concealed carry. The trigger took a little getting used to after shooting the Colt, but was manageable.
Of the ones you have on your list, I would go with the M92 over the 1911 of any make.,
One pistol you left off you list was a Glock. I'm sure you have your reasons, but I went through several pistols before deciding on the Glock 22 as my primary home, range and carry handgun. Trust me, I was a Glock hater until I fired one. Forget all the hype, both good and bad, and try one. Mine has never jammed in over 1200 rounds of various brands of ammo. They are simple, light and easy to modify and mags are cheap and available. In your case, I think a Glock 19 would do nicely for your needs. The 19 is probably the perfect size and balance. Think about it and try as many of the ones you mentioned as you can, all have good and bad points.

It wasn't on your list (not sure if it approved) but the Sig P320 would be worth considering.

Otherwise if limited to 10 rounds, I would take advantage of HK rebate and get a HK45c (if approved). More reliable than 1911's and just as accurate as most.

Yeah exactly. Doubt i will live in MA forever. I dont mind a smaller mag capacity for now at all. I really liked the P30 but I want to wait to test out VP9. My local gun range lets you shoot and compare a few guns before you buy. They said VP9 was on order and they should have it in a few weeks as long as it passes attorney generals requirements.

If I was going to spend my $ on something today, I'd probably get an M&P 9 just because I feel it is a lot of gun for $450 and it felt so great in my hand.

mikemxbike4, remember that your two neighbors to the north are very gun-friendly. In Vermont, you don't need any permits and there is no registry so things are pretty hassle-free. Of course, if you expect to travel across state lines on a regular basis, you'll have to do your homework to make the right choice for you and your family.

I dunno. Why get a double stack if you can't get the benefit out of it?

You can, I live in MA and have pre-ban high capacity mags for several handguns and rifles. Not always easy to find but they are out there. Only problem is they don't have pre-bans for new guns such as the M&P for example. Pretty much limited to Beretta's, Sig's, Glock's, and 3rd Gen S&W's for handguns.

The question is: why not? Some of the double stacks have a thin grip that fits me perfectly and I can throw in a higher capacity mag if I end up moving into a different state.
