New G2R 'RIP' 9mm projectile

I'd not even think about using this stuff for self defense.

Imagine the court case if you shot someone with it!

It would look way to aggressive.

Fleschettes in M-79 worked wonders.
But outside Chicago, home defense isn't a combat zone.

Can't wait until Piers Morgan is showing videos of these "murder bullets" on TV, complete with sketchy looking PMC types firing them out of full auto machine pistols with "extended clips," while voiced over by someone who sounds like Batman with laryngitis. Seriously, can you imagine the legal fallout of using something called a "RIP" bullet?

I'm not buying it until Shotgun Joe signs off on it. Once it gets that kind of endorsement, I'd confidently fire some into the air to scare off bad guys.

Sureshot/BeamShot....

I recall about 5/6 years ago, a major firm like Bushnell rolled out a cool DV/scope to go on your firearm. :D It had a DV unit, a red laser & white-light too.
These "RIP" rounds could go great with that set-up.
You can watch your very own John Woo action film again & again.

Really, aside from DA revolvers(maybe), I seriously doubt these RIP handgun loads will able to work as claimed. I'd bet a dozen Boston Cremes or Maple Glazed this GA business will not even be around in 2020.

As a tactic you could pack a mag of these RIP rounds & then toss a round at a thug first. He'd go  then skulk back to his lair.

There is a solution. I'm sure that among us tech-savvy gun nerds is a video camera, YouTube account, CCW-sized 9mm, and a watermelon or other fun approximating medium. All we need is a box of this fabled ammunition...

Dead chicken....

Don't forget the thawed out chicken .
That clip made me think of the Thunderzap handgun rounds of the early 1990s.
They ran ads in printed magazines, remember those?
The handgun rounds; 9mm, .380acp, .38spl, .45acp, etc was super hyper powerful.
They shot sides of raw beef(steer) & showed how these Thunder-zap bullets burst apart tearing bone, flesh, tissue, etc.

It looks cool, and seems better than that one round that was held together by a string or whatever, but still I'm skeptical. I wanna try it but $44/20 is too much for me. Would an indoor range even allow people to use this ammunition? If I decide to carry it, what if i had to use it and one of those shrapnel pieces misses and hits someone else? I think I'll stick with my hollow points at least til it does more than look cool on a YouTube video

YM weighs in....

FWIW;
The Yankee Marshal posted a new video speaking directly about the new RIP ammunition line.
He too, is against it. For him it's not the design or specs(as claimed by the company) but the brand name; RIP & the marketing.

Yeah, I agree. I'm actually interested to see the true ballistics of the round... but they really screwed themselves over with that name.

How dumb do you have to be?

The fact that they gave it such an awful name really calls into question how well the rest of the design can possibly be.

Spoke to one of the guys about the ammo. Apparently in the next few months or so it will be under the DRT name.

Here is the Email I got.

Right now the only ammo available is 9mm.

When inventories allow it is put on the website of www.armthepopulace.com

The 9mm is the only round in production.

The 380,40 and 45 will be available in roughly 4 months and will be sold under the DRT ammo line.

We will also answer questions on face book under G2 Research. It retails for $44.00 per 20 rounds.

We are at this time out of 9mm. Ammo to go in TX, Ammozone in AR was just shipped a pallet. It should be at their doors No Later Than Thursday.

Our G2RIP.com and the G2Rammo.com has been overwhelmed and keeps shutting down due to demand.

We will be selling loaded ammo only, nothing for reloading yet.

Thank you and have a great weekend.

Again, I will probably buy a box just to keep around for the hell of it or have fun with. I still have cases of the original Black Talons NIB.. Zombie Ammo, you name it. When it goes away either by lack of following or bad publicity, it might be worth more money, like the Black Talon.

I had an uncle who worked for a wholesaler at the time Black Talon was being discontinued, he bought a few cases of every caliber and I still have em. I have sold boxes for $100 a piece before to people who believe all the rumors.

I think I have some accelerator rifle rounds somewhere too.

I'm pretty skeptical of these little 96gr rounds. I'm with earlier posters that call it a novelty round. We'll see how things pan out with it. There are far more knowledgeable people out there than me when it comes to ballistics, and I'll give them time to figure out whether or not this technology is really groundbreaking before I buy into any hype.

I'd hate to be on the wrong end of a jury who's trying to decide what my intensions were when using that bullet for self defense.

You know what my favorite ammo slogan of all time is, even though I tend to use Gold Dot or HST? Winchester PDX1 Defender: "Stop the Threat"

Now that is the message I want conveyed by my ammo, defense of self, and no interest in harming or killing, just wanting to keep me and mine safe. And the PDX1 is an excellent round in most calibers, to boot.

It contrasts very starkly with an ammo name chock full of death acronyms.

If they don't think the marketing matters they should wait until Huffington Post gets a hold of the news.

If their claims are valid, wouldn't the act of hitting a BG in the arm, having a ricochet or hitting some other soft target greatly decrease the safety of those nearby and foster more lawsuits?

I'm thinking 2 rounds of a good HP will outperform this high priced novelty.

.410 shot-shell....

Those reasons & a few others are why I'm not a huge fan of the Judge/Gov series of .410 shotshell defense revolvers.
Shot or projectiles flying all over are not what you want or need in a critical incident.
I could see a few bystanders or passer-bys being hit with some stray fragment then acting like they were hit with a MX missile.
