Need some advice with a 22lr semi auto pistol

I've found the Ruger SR22 to eat anything I feed it, and it is a nice compact size, for a reasonable price. For ultimate reliability in a 22, a revolver is the ticket if you are willing to carry the slightly greater bulk. I have the LCR in .22 mag, and outside of the horrible trigger, it is a good shooter and very reliable.

I've just recently purchased a new SIG P938-22. It's a very nicely built SAO pistol small enough for pocket carry.
I haven't shot it enough to declare it reliable but I do know it doesn't like CCI Mini-Mags very well but does gobble up Remington Golden Bullets.
SIG included a trigger guard pocket holster with it.

Is the 938-22 also made by GSG like the Sig M1911-22, and Mosquito?
The 938, and 238 design behind a miniaturized 1911, the 938-22 wouldn't be my choice for pocket carry. To me the only thing worse than an exposed hammer D/A in a pocket is an exposed hammer S/A that has to be carried cocked with the safety on!
On any CCW gun I carry an external safety that has to be manipulated in order to fire is not my friend.

I'm not sure who makes the slide and barrel for the SIG P938-22 but the frame is a standard 9mm P938 frame and can be converted to 9mm by changing the upper and magazine.
The 9mm ejector remains in the frame along with the 22lr ejector which is attached to the barrel.

I'm also pretty sure the frame is manufactured in the U.S..

If you want a "reliable" .22 handgun that "isn't picky" about ammo, I'd suggest forgetting about semi-autos and thinking about a revolver.

I have seven Ruger Mark III pistolas and all 7 will take any ammo I feed them so long as it is normal or high velocity. (The low velocity rounds often lack the pressure to work the action.) These are terrific, accurate, and reliable guns.

.22lr

+1 for the Beretta Mod 70/71, I have had mine since 1980/81 and it has been 100% reliable. It takes everything I have fed it with no problems!

My Ruger MK III 22/45 shoots anything I feed it. Yes, it is partial to the HV rounds, even standard velocity rounds have plenty enough oomph to cycle the action.

For the rare FTF, I just save the round.

Shoot 'em in my old High Standard R-100. You can't beat a revolver for handling everything for 22 shorts to 22 high velocity.

No one has mentioned the S&W 2213/2214. I have a 2213 and its an excellent little pistol. Mine has been 100% reliable with many different ammo brands, and types. They are a little hard to find, but certainly worth the search. They are a very high quality pistol, and function perfectly.

"You can't beat a revolver for handling everything for 22 shorts to 22 high velocity."

.22S vs .22L vs .22LR? Doesn't matter.

Sub-sonic vs std vel vs high vel? Doesn't matter.

RN vs HP? Doesn't matter.

Copper plated vs lead? Doesn't matter.

Revolvers are the honey badgers of .22 handguns, they just don't care.

I have an older MkII 678 and two new Mark IIIs (Competition and Hunter). Ruger rimfire pistols are about the only Rugers I have been impressed with over the last few years (losing faith in a lot of firearms companies).

Im in the market for a semi auto 22lr pocket pistol

So the suggestions of a Ruger MK series keeps popping up. Do you saw the barrel off to be able to carry it in your pocket!

Then a gun that has been out of production for 30 years. You really think the OP can just run down to the LGS and find one?

I would like to hear from the OP as to the purpose of the gun. That might help with more accurate suggestions.:D

cryption Im in NJ so I cant carry anything. But I already own a walthers 380 so that is taken care of. I also own 3 revolvers so to get a new one in 22lr I think is a waist of a good pistol in 22lr... lol

The pocket pistol idea comes from years ago about 20 I owned a really nice small 22lr semi auto. I cant remember the name and make of it. But I sold it so now I would like to replace it. So when I go to PA with my family they can fire it and learn on it and then move up to the desert eagle... LOL

weblance I just saw that s&w 2213 and I like it.. I also like the s&w escort... But finding them both will be hard.... But I am leaning that way.

Tynman long ago I had an Iver Johnson TP-22 pocket pistol. I still can't remember why I sold it. It never jammed and was plenty accurate.

Just about a month ago I found several on GB and bid on a couple of them. I did win one of the auctions and got a slightly used TP-22 with the box and two factory mags. I have only shot a couple of rounds through it just to make sure it fired.

I believe these are a copy of the Walther 22 pistol Some will tell they are cheap and won't last. I had way over 500 rounds through the first one and it was still like new.

They are a little heavy at 14oz unloaded. But that didn't bother me back in the pre internet days and it doesn't bother me now. Just a suggestion.

Here is a review of the gun. http://averagejoeshandgunreviews.blogspot.com/2012/11/iver-johnson-tp22.html
