Im in the market for a semi auto 22lr pocket pistol. I would like it to be a reliable pistol that isnt picky on the ammo you feed it. If you have experience with a good one please let me know. I would like to stay away from polymer but if I dont have a choice then I will consider.

Thanks

I don't think that mythical creature exists

There are too many variations in 22 LR bullet shapes for them all to be realiable in every small pistol

Just get a good name brand and find the ammo it likes

I hear you. But the one I buy I hope likes cci or blaze 22lr cause I have 5500 rounds of it...lol

I just found a S&W Model 61 Escort 22LR Pistol... in nickle finish... Now thats something I could buy...

Walther certainly makes reliable autos.

Don't overlook something like the Taurus 9-shot .22 revolver, reliable, 2 or 3 inch barrels make them pocket size, and choice of blue or stainless steel.

Personally, I would choose a .380 or 9mm semi over a .22 semi, if size was an issue.

I've learned not to let my choice of wardrobe dictate my self-defense capabilities. It's better to dress around the gun, not the other way around.

I've carried a TP22 for several years, and always knew I was undergunned if push came to shove.

CCI is good consistent ammo in .22 semis, generally.

Beretta Model 71. Great reliability and lots of fun.
You can find a bunch of them on Gunbroker for a good price. You will probably want to remove the fake silencer, but that's no big deal.

This is exactly how I would describe the Browning 1911-22, expensive, but worth a look in my opinion.

My buddy at work has good luck with his full size S&W M&P22. I have had good luck with my SR-22. I had a PT-22 and it jammed if I just looked at it!
TPH was mentioned and what a cool pistol and I have one but it too jams too much for me. I'm determined to find what works in the TPH, love that pistol!

Maybe look at a higher capacity revolver like a S&W 617/317, SP101 in 22.
I have a 10 shot S&W617 and really like it!

I know it's not an auto, but I would opt for a S&W J frame or Ruger LCR revolver in 22lr. My buddies mother has an 8 Shot aluminum and titanium S&W J frame that she uses for carry. While I am not a fan of .22lr for carry, that thing is super light, and more reliable than any semi auto .22 in it's size.

My S&W Escort has always been reliable with everything I have fed it, but it is not a general use or "plinking" pistol, strictly a short range defense gun. And for that purpose today there are other guns that are not much bigger and are a lot more powerful.

By the first part you mean "as reliable as possible with rimfire ammunition".
The second part is an elusive critter not yet found by the many who have been searching.
Your best chance on the second part would be the Ruger LCR in 22 Long Rifle. But "picky" can extend past functioning in an autoloader, and relate to accuracy as well.
If small size is what you are looking for, the little tip-up barrel autos from Beretta, and Taurus might fit the bill. I have a Taurus PT Poly that has been are reliable as I've had with any rimfire auto. Very light, and it fits perfectly in my DeSantis Superfly pocket holster made for my Ruger LCP if that gives you an idea of the size.
Although I personally would not carry a rimfire for personal defense, if I were forced to, it would be the little Taurus.

The most ammunition-insensitive 22lr I've ever encountered is the Ruger Mk series of pistols.

The Rugers I've owned have eaten just about everything I've ever fed them. Strong and reliable. Simple and accurate.

Inexpensive, too.

My personal opinion would be to go with the Ruger SR22P or the Walther P22, both are very dependable & versatile with ammo. I have a Ruger SR22P and the only problem I have had with it is a feeding problem that was caused by me putting the magazine back together wrong..other than that I have had 0% problems with it..and as far as ammo, it spits out whatever you put in. I prefer CCI Stingers for self-defense (Yes, it is a somewhat reliable defensive round) and the CCI mini mags for recreational plinking.

Oh! and as trigger643 said..The Ruger MK pistols are great too & A LOT of fun!

Ruger SR.-22 for me has gobbled up every brand of ammo I've fed it. And these days that means something considering you take what you can find. It had two misfeeds in the first 100 rounds and since hasn't had a hiccup using every off beat brand I've purchased in the last couple years.

The absolute best .22 fun gun I own is a Daewoo DP52, which is a clone of the Walther PP. The next most fun .22 is the Walther PP. Both of these are hard to find and expensive though. A Bersa T22 is easier to find, though not as well made or reliable.

Occationally a older Beretta pops up such as the 71, or 948 models. Great guns and worth looking for, but mags are tough to find.

Perhaps the new Walther USA model of the PPK/S would be a suitable choice... not too expensive, is currently in production, easy to find mags. I don't own one but I do own several of the Walther/Umarex .22s, and they are excellent guns that are very reliable.

The GSG line is OK too. I have a 1911 that is remarkably accurate.

"pocket", "reliable", "not ammo sensitive" and ".22" together.

a .22 snubby of some sort is most likely to fulfill all of those, together.

Charter, Taurus and Ruger I know all have guns in that category, and most likely S&W as well.

I may have missed it, but why a pocket .22? You can have pocket sized and easy carry with all the pocket .380s out there.

You must have REALLY big pockets!
:D:D:D

But as mentioned by Cryption, why a 22? Your answered might help getting better suggestions.

I don't really care for an exposed hammer for pocket carry if that is what you are considering using it for. Even in a D/A, carried with the hammer down. Just something extra to snag on.
The Taurus PT series of pocket 22's has bobbed hammer, and D/A only trigger similar to the Ruger LCP.
Speaking of my Elsie Pea, if the good people at Ruger would copy the Elsie in 22Long Rifle I would get in line for one, sight unseen!:D
