My Keltec P32 just DIED!!!

I was just getting ready to go to lunch, and had my P32 in a front pocket holster, and noticed when i touched the back of the slide that i could feel the hammer sticking up. Much to my horror i realized that i could move the hammer back and forth with my thumb and it had no real tension on it. Upon taking the pistol out of my pocket i saw that the plug in the bottom of the grip had come out, taking my mainspring with it!!!!

Looks like a plastic rail inside the grip frame let loose. The parts were all down inside my front pocket. Also looks like the top of the mainspring may have broken off, but i am not 100%.

I am just sick right now.... Looks like a trip back to Keltec, but geez how am i ever gonna have faith in it again after this!?!?!?!?

Another case of not getting what you paid for. Nice and small and light---but basically an overpriced piece----best left in the gunshops' case.

Hopefully you can get it fixed to your satisfaction or at least get most of your money back to get a quality gun next time.

The plug on the Kel-Tec is held in under spring tension by a pin that is drawn up against it. I think the spring broke. Coil springs can and do break, even on high-end guns like Glocks (trigger bar spring in their case). I say get it fixed and don't worry about it.

You are horribly mistaken. Don't you read TFL? Guns don't break; they all last forever.

"If the space shuttle can go up like a bottle rocket, . . . ." Buy 4 guns and a bunch of mags.

Depending on what broke, you could just have KT send you new parts and replace them yourself and not have to send the whole gun back.

rugerfreak...

It is a quality pistol, and a very innovative locked-breech design at that.

A spring broke...I suppose that has never happened to you on any firearm you've owned.

Well, I never said that i expected it to last forever, but I could count on one hand the guns that I have owned that just came apart and stopped working with no warning. In fact only two that I can think of right off; a Grendel p-12 and a Maadi Helwan.

This is the only one that i have ever had break while it was not actually being fired, dry fired, cycled, etc. It literally just came apart while sitting there in the holster.

I really like this little gun, been my 'always' gun for about 6 months now. Gonna feel like i am going out into the world without my watch or glasses until i get it fixed.

I just finally got around to checking the Kel-Tec website and looked at the parts diagram. Looks like loop on the top of the mainspring just broke clean off. I am gonna call Kel-Tec in a bit and get them to send me a couple of replacments.

rugerfreak, you sound like me with Auto Ordinance. As for Kel-Tec, they have an excellent design but very spotty quality control. Some guys love theirs, other loathe them. Mine has been excellent, but then again I haven't fired a large number of rounds through it yet.

I've seen a number of broken springs in all sorts of different guns, so this doesn't bother me much. If a spring breaking equates to a "junk" gun, just send me any "junk" guns you don't want to keep that have broken a spring!

Let's See.........

My carry gun fails in such a way that it disassembles itself in my pocket, rendering it useless.

Analytical thinking dictates that this would no longer be my carry gun. Keltec apparently disarms CCW carriers quicker than a Democrat.

Respring it yourself, if you can. That way you know it was done right and you have faith in your carry piece again. Thats whats
most important.....no faith=no carry. Good luck and shoot well

C`mon guys. Guns are just machines, machines break. ALL machines break sooner or later. ALL! Toasters, computers, guns automobiles, everything. Nothing on this Earth is 100% reliable except death. So a spring broke, get it replaced and get on with life. Marcus

Well one thing I know from participating in KTOG, is that Kel-Tec will make it right, pronto. Probably servicing the entire gun, or sending you the part, your choice.

They have a reputation for even fixing or replacing major assemblies ruined by amatuer gunsmithing.

Give them a call and give them a chance to impress you. They back thier product 110%. Even thier production gunsmiths and design staff will field customer calls.

Ahhh...the reason for carrying more than one gun rears it's ugly head.

All things mechanical can break. Until they come up with a firearm with no moving parts and no ammo we're stuck with guns that can and do sometimes fail. Carry two...or three...or more...and a knife...or two.

Without slamming Kel-Tec, I don't see how you can get it fixed and not worry about it as suggested by another poster. Sure, anything made by humans will eventually fail as humans themselves are not infallable. I too have had guns break during use, but NEVER just sitting in the holster. No doubt we all have some worry that our guns might fail during a serious social event. How can you put stock back into that particular gun and not worry about it when it failed while being carried in the holster, a time when you least expect a gun to fail? I think that pretty well craters the whole "don't worry about it" concept if the gun is being carried as a defensive weapon.

You know, this may not be an isolated event. Does anybody else have any stories of guns falling apart when not being used? Say like one day you open your safe and find your Colt 1911 in pieces on the safe floor, or your Garand just broke in two?

I can see the story now, "During a bank robbery gone bad, our would be hero, revolvergeek, produced Kel-Tec P-32 parts from his front pocket and was able to assemble and super glue the parts into a working gun that was used some 8 minutes later to shoot at fleeing geriatric suspects using walkers who had a 7 minute and 45 second head start. There is no report of any of the suspects being injured."

I have a P32. But I have to tell you, the only mouse gun I trust is the Beretta Jetfire 950. After the Jetfire I jump up to a Kahr MK9.

The P32, like all KelTec products is quite frankly, cheap. Still, for less than $200 I had to experiment with the P32. A few more ounces and a better manufacturer and the P32 would be a world beater in the .32 caliber.

I am still awaiting a proven reliable MP9 from Kahr. Till then, the most effective pocket pistol will be a MK9 or MK40 (I think the MK9 is easier controlled).

Springs break, period. Preloaded tension springs like the KT's hammer spring are ALWAYS under a considerable load. IOW, they're always "working."

For all of you slamming Kel-Tec, the situation is no different with any other maker. They're all subject to springs breaking, especially preloaded tension springs.
