Most overrated?

My vote would have to go to Sig's rival in price,
the H&K USP. Besides being big, massive, and
looking more like a brick; the quality just is not
the same.:( :D

SIG. Not the most expensive gun i own, but devinatly the least performance-per-dollor. For $800 it shot patterns instead of groups and the finish was peeling after 150 rounds. The trigger pull was fair to good, but the really long reset stroke made double taps an excersise in frustration. I had this gun in my poseetion for ONE DAY before it had to go back to the factory.
It realy made me glad I owned some lesser quality, "POS" guns like my Charles Daly and Glock to shoot while my world class, top-knotch infalable SIG was in for repair :)

1911 - its a design that was revolutionary for its time (early 20th century) - but is now obsolete.

The grip safety is a weak design that can cause the safety to be engaged when you don't want it to.

The beaver tail sticking out interfers with the ability to conceal.

The standard double action/single action trigger is like having a stick shift in your car. Some may like it but there are better (IMHO), more user friendly triggers available i.e. the light DA from Kahr, the QA from Walther, LEM from HK or the Glock trigger.

I guess that must be why people keep buying them.

No, stock/mildly customozed 1911s are neither obsolete or overrated. But $2000 "tactical defense packages" certainly are! They rank right up there with the Glock as having been WAY over-promoted.

People are buying colt cowboy revolvers, ruger vaqueros and other single action revolvers like mad but they are still OBSOLETE.

Anyone else think Berettas are over rated????
I always thought they put 9mm over the edge , especially when I was in college (Mel Gibson had one...we all need one!)

I think your definition of obsolete must be different than mine. They (meaning 1911s AND single action revolvers) still sling lead that I can easily find just about anywhere. Doesn't sound too obsolete to me.

PS. My car has a stickshift. I consider it an option, not a lack of one.

Most overrated??? The one and only Glock, no glock. Yeah, they are good guns (yes I have fired many of them before), but it p*sses me off to no end how they are overrated. "Hey man, get a real gun, get a glock." "I can shoot this thing underwater"---> Who the h*ll is going to shoot underwater and expect the round to do anything w/all of that resistance?????? I bet my a*s my Mak can shoot underwater too. :p

Okay, I am ready for the flames! ;)

How can a SA, or a 1911 be obsolete? They don't shoot anymore? Don't hit what you aim at with them? Are no fun to shoot? I don't get that. I've met some guys with SAs that I would hate to get into a gunfight with regardless of what I was packing (handgun only of course).

As far as the 1911 design being obsolete, are you willing to give up every pistol based on the 1911 design as obsolete?

Explain how the 1911 is obsolete.

HK USP.

1911 is somewhat a special case. Custom made ones may cost a lot of money, mostly because it takes a lot of hours to build one,
to CUSTOMER specs, and it's a custom job anyway. In this case it's not a mass produced pistol, so I do not think real custom 1911 is overrated. Kimbers are are different story - Kimbers
as produced today are overated.

First off, the USP seems overrated when you look at the build quality of the frame and the price you paid for it....but it surely isn't overrated once you SHOOT one IMO. Out of the box, I can't think of a more reliable and accurate pistol that's easy to shoot well with.

Now for my picks.

1) S&W Revos....they don't do anything that the Ruger won't after an action job, and the Ruger will keep on going after the S&W has bitten the dust. THIS IS MY OPINION!

2) Makarovs.....yeah they are tough and reliable and somewhat accurate....but the only reason they are so highly thought of is because they are DIRT CHEAP! Plus they shoot a wimpy cartridge, and being a blowback design, punishes the hand too much for the actual energy delivered out the muzzle.

3) HK P7M8....I just don't think they are as great as people make them out to be. Reliable? YES. Unique? YES. Accurate? YES, but not as much so as some say.

Interesting that these two quotes came one right after the other.

FWIW, I've had 0 quality issues with my USP. I've also had 0 quality issues with my Sig. I've also had 0 quality issues with my Beretta. Guess I'm just lucky.
