Hmmm...

I checked "HK" because, while I love my P7 and think the P9S is one of the swoopiest pistols ever made, the USP just strikes me as a fine $500 gun. ;)

DEs

I'm the trigger puller on my "crew served" Desert Eagle. Having owned almost one of each brand on the list I can say that HK got my nod. Good guns overall but not equivalent to the several others one could have for the same $$ eh!

Since he resurrected this thread, I'd like to change my vote to "Whatever handgun Greg Bell currently has on his hip." ;)

Hmm. While a Glock is not what I choose to carry lately, I do believe it to be the best combat-style handgun design ever all things considered. There are better handguns but they require more hand fitting or cost more or have other issues such as more complex take down or less simple operation or more parts.

HKP7PSP,

Why do you feel a handgun is better if it easier for the manufacturer to make? What does their ease of manufacture do for you?

No one seems to feel this about car engines (for instance), so why would it be a good thing for a gun?

What does underrated (or overrated, for that matter) actually mean?

As far as old-world build quality is concerned, I would think the plastic guns would be the most overrated, especially the more expensive ones.

As fas as utter reliability is concerned, the various 1911s and the new "golden boy" CZ models (particularly RAMI and 75) would be the most overrated.

Having said all that, if the poop ever hits the fan, ain't nothing more assuring than having a .45 USP in your hand.

They cost as much as they do for a reason.

Kimber.

I have had so many problems with my first, only and definitly last Kimber that I will ever buy. I had heard so much hype about them that I willingly plunked down big bucks for a new Ultra Carry II Stainless with Night Sights. Even after 700 rounds so far, I still have FTF's, FTE's, and recently, the Kimber magazine disintegrated on me while firing. What good is a gun that you have less than full faith in its reliability unless you intend using it only at the range? I think I'll stick with my absolutely trustworthy S&W revolvers.

It's kinda of funny...

if you read in the forum where the question was asked which handgun is the most reliable here , you'll find that most of the entries say Glock and Sig.

You read here about overrated and you get the same answer.

The irony is rampant. ;)

"Look at all the hits on the Glock, it seems Glock bashing is alive and well on this forum."

Accurately reporting major peoblems experienced by a particular make of gun is not "bashing." It is simply ststing the facts. Glock has had a series of serious probles unmatched by antother design. Glock has been forced to admitt that these problems exist and spend large anounts of money to try and fix them. So, unless Gaston Glock is a Glock "basher" Glock deserves its position on this poll/

You might want to check the numbers (or try a good remedial math class). While Glock is the clear leader in the poll by a long shot (and rightfully so), there are at least three other handguns beside the Glock that have more entries than the SIG.

FWIW, I would say that "overrated" and "most reliable" are not the necessarily opposing issues as you seem to assume.

I would suggest that a visit or two to "General Glocking" on Glock Talk or "Sig Pistols" on SIG Forum could easily justify a description of overrated for either of them. BTW, without implying Glock is not reliable, I would definitely say its reliability is very greatly exagerated--particularly compared to competing designs. The Glock is definitely over-hyped (which can easily be confused with--or become--overrating).

I think that HK's USP is one of the most reliable, rugged, overpriced and overrated pistols on the market, and don't feel at all self-contradictory in saying so. :)
