Most of us "older" guys would prefer

63 and my preference is based on use, not revolver v. semiauto. Ruger Mk II is hard to beat for enjoyable shooting. 1911s are great to shoot, 2nd only to the Mk II. Kahr P40 is very satisfying, P45 is less satisfying. Long shots with 629 are fun (for a while) and the accuracy has convinced me to carry it on deer hunts when the weather is decent. First model Vaquero .44 is neat but less comfortable to shoot. Haven't shot my LCP (just got it because I was waiting for supply and demand to produce a decent price.)

I'm 56. Can't remember off hand how many hand guns I own (around 20 or so) but I do recall the last time I counted, I had an equal number of both. I really don't have a prefrence. My two favorites are a Colt Python 6" blued and a Kimber Custom Defender II .45 ACP. Also, I really like me CZ PCR 9mm and my S&W Model-17. Took my Model-29 to the range yesterday and put 200 rounds thru it. Also took my Ruger MkII and shot about 200 rounds thru it.
I really like both. It's like having a date with Kathy Ireland on Friday night and Christie Brinkley on Saturday night. Is one better than the other?:D

Interesting. I found in handguns I have 2 autoloaders and 6 revolvers. However in long guns I have 3 non-autoloaders and 6 autoloaders. I'm over 50.

ok

IMHO a quality revolver is a work of ART and a quality auto loader, as effective as it may be, is a tool nothing more and nothing less.

Y'know....at first I was going to disagree with that. After thinking about it for a few moments, though, I see that there is a lot of truth in that statement (Even though I have more semis, the guns that I bought "just to have" are revolvers). Many (Most? All?) modern centerfire semi-autos do have a blocky industrial purely functional look to them. (I have a hard time including the 1911 in that - aren't most photos of "pretty" semis, photos of 1911s?).
I wonder if our appreciation for revolvers isn't kind of bred in to the American psyche starting with the early Colts.

I'm 55 and my heart belongs to revolvers but I find myself trusting my posterior more and more to my semi-autos.

Please don't make generalizations about old people.... it makes us cranky and at 51 I tend to argue with walls.... so says my wife.

I've got a safe full of guns and I carry an auto for CCW. So the "old guy" = revolver doesn't fly.

How about old guys choose the best tool for the job (depending on all of those years of experience) that works best for them.

Now I have to go chase some kids off my front yard - they seem to be having fun out there.

I'm 51 years old & guess from growing up in the western movie era , revolvers are just plain sexy.
Nothing like a nickle plated , pearl handle revolver , imo they come pretty close to a good looking curved woman. :)
Semi Autos are nice to shoot & you can carry more rounds ,but I just love revolvers.
38 spl. just have my heart.

I'm a sexagenarian. And I honestly don't think there really is any correlation here between age and handgun type. I think it more about what we found works best for us way back when. In my case that's semi-autos. Always could shoot 'em well whereas revolvers and their long double action triggers just didn't float my boat. May also be due to being introduced to semi-autos first and revolvers much later as an afterthought. Anyhow that's my story and I'm stickin' to it :D

...most of the time.:D

Ok Ok, at least I am 69.

On a serious note. Semi or revolver has nothing to do with age, with the exception of having a hand injury or hand weakness that prevents operating a semi slide, and that could happen to any age person.

I'm 26, and my ratio of revolvers to semi-autos is about 3 to 1; out of 20 handguns, only 5 are semi-autos. One of the revolvers is my CCW. Out of two long-guns, only one is semi-automatic. So.

65

The last handgun I bought was a Combat Commander in 38 super. The one before that was a Detective Special.

What was the question again..........................

Its not a generalization

Don't make silly generalizations. I'm 60 and prefer shooting a semi-auto.

At the range I goto I never see youngin's shooting a revolver...in almost 3 years I cant recall ever seeing one.
If I see a somebody shooting a Revolver he is in the AARP crowd. Some kid was asking me About my Ruger SP and how much it cost....after I told him
all he could say was "why would you pay all the money for 5 shots when for 50 dollars more you could have got a Glock"

Im 55 and spent 27 years in LE as an Investigator and firearms trainer (retired now). I carry an XDm 40 but I still love my wheel guns too.

I'm 54 going on 55 in July and I prefer semi-auto's than revolvers. In fact, I only own one revolver and it's a Taurus M-94 9 shot 22lr.
